Power failure test of BeanAnimal overflow on new 120g mixed reef build. For more information on my system, please check out my build thread here: www.3reef.com/f...
Hi there. Nice video. I’m curious what the benefit is of having that submerged pipe with the elbow? I would think if you just had it as a submerged stand pipe that the air would be expelled instantly after the pump comes back on or am I missing something?
It's a Durso style. Reduces sound to almost inaudible vs having an open standpipe. The air that is trapped in the Durso eventually gets pushed out by the weight of the water as it rises in the box. If you just had an open standpipe, it would not have to wait for air to be cleared, but it would be gurgling loudly all the time. And most aquarium keepers don't exactly want that.
@D rb I think you’re aware that the reason for the elbows on the main siphon drain is to prevent a vortex of air sucked down from surface. But you can also plumb without elbows on main siphon drain using only an open bulkhead (or w/ a strainer) and still have completely silent operation...as long as you keep the water height in overflow box heigh enough to avoid the vortex of air.
My water keeps draining to the lower siphon and won’t go up to the higher siphon for water to go through that siphon line as well. It then just gurgles in that lower siphon. Can someone help me out. New to this

How safe is to silicone the external overflow box to the back of an aquarium? Can the water weight do anything to it over time? I doing this type of overlow for my next project and I would like to make a ghost overflow, so the plumbing will go to the back.
Are the two glass holes in the display tank too high relative to the 3 pipes in the outer box? Thought ideally you want the water from display tank entering below the water line of this external box?
hi, this is a great video and I am planning to create beananimal overflow and need your help. Please let me know the below points: 1) Flow rate you are maintaining. 2) water level height 3) Holes height in the aquarium wall. 4) Siphon pipes height and emergency outlet height 5) siphon hole diameter 6) the drilled hole diameter
Can you make a video of the entire setup including your skimmer box?
Why do you have your siphon pipe on the right with a downturned elbow? Isn't that why you are trapping air that takes longer to expel?
Why didn't you simulate a blockage, not a power failure?
In Bean animal it says the main should be 6" below water level, I don't think that is 6"? So we can place it farther above?
I have same plan. Can you help me please with some details about pipes and sizes? Thanks

Hi are the elbows in the overflow box glued or not? Only if they're glued, how do you clean them if needed?

Are all the 3 pipes in the overflow box glued into the bulkheads or only hand tightened? Awesome video from the back view, thanks.

Good video showing how it works - Thanks!
Can you please help? How did you attached overflow box to glass while it is painted..and without any leaks..
Sorry man my brother passed away. He cant help.
Do you have a vedio how you Plummed it
Nice presentation on fluid dynamics. Kudos

@@seanmishler4887 awwww sorry
What is the purpose of the blue line running off the top of the left pipe
You can see the full system components and explanations here. www.beananimal.com/projects/silent-and-fail-safe-aquarium-overflow-system.aspx
Is your siphon line driven by a pump?
no by gravity
Could you please answer my questions?
