I just recently took the plunge into saltwater and purchased a 75 gallon. This video helped me a ton as I will be doing a Herbie method as well! Actually .... All your videos on/about your 75 gallon have been extremely helpful! Your tank looks amazing by the way!
Hey mate I’m stressing a bit, I just brought an old aqua one regency 280 that had a durso. I’ve just about to set it up for a herbie. As I’m in australia I’ll try get the right measurements. I have a 32mm (1 1/4”) as my emergency and will have a 20mm (5/8”) as my main siphon. It’ll be on my planted tank so sump turn over doesn’t have to be ripping like on a reef tank. I also purchased a Jabao dcp 4000 I can tone down to 1200 litres per hour. Do you think this will be able to handle the flow?
Hello . I am about to install this herby . I need some info on hole distances . First question . My tank already has a hole drilled 1.5 inches from top edge . is it too high ? do i need to drill the hole same height ? how far apparent ? is the water level determined by the emergency pipe or by the overflow box dents ?
one more question . I am planing on installing a 4 sided internal box to avoid the silicon an mount then with the bulkheads . do i need any particular type of bulk head or is just the regular ?
Herbie explained perfectly. Don't know why anyone would use anything other than a Herbie. Threw out my old school Durso, years ago.
I started using it for how simple the install was and now I'll never use anything else either 😄
I like the herbie method because you are able to fine tune it and make it quiet. Also the added emergency overflow is a life saver.
👍👍👍

Thank you. And glad they helped👍👍
Awesome demonstration Billy! You make it look so easy like always. 👍
Thanks J. The Herbie method is so easy to setup too👍
Thanks. Great info!! Once I get a drilled tank I'll definitely consider this style overflow
Herbie method is awesome. Highly recommend it 👍
Herbie definitely the way to go. Great video as always.😉
Thanks man. Father's day trip to you know where on Sunday lol

Adding chaeto and a fuge light soon

Thank you Ash 👍
Thank you for this video
Great info. Thanks
Thanks Will
Great video 👍
Thank you 👍👍
Mr. Pipes! Are you running both the drain line and emergency drain under the sump water line an inch or so? Thanks for the help! You are the man!
Both drains are 1" and both go to the sump

The drain need to be at least 1" in diameter
👍👍 Nice video
Thanks K
its a bit hard to see, is the primary drain just the bulkhead itself and the emergency is an elbow with a short length of pvc?
On my system that's how it is. Sometimes the main drain requires a elbow on the drain facing downward
If I wanted to convert a durso style internal overflow to herbie, do you think a 1” drain with a 3/4” emergency drain would be okay???
I think so. As long as the overflow is rated for the gph you want to go through it
what did you use to build your return line next to your overflow?
1" pvc
What about Hernie vs Bean Animal method ?
I've never used a bean animal method. Herbie works to good to try anything else
Billy! I hope youre good brother. Im getting back in the game...
I'm doing awesome bro. Post up a video so I can see what ya got goin on
Very good video.
Thanks man. Gonna use the same method on the lowboy

Drill it same height. The distance is based upon the size of the bulkheads. And the box will determine the water level👍
Perfect . Thank you so much

Herbie FTW beep beep beep beep yooohooooooooooooo
Lolol
What lights are you using?

How come it's called a syphon when it falls to the tank and there's no lift?
The return pump is the lift
Where should the emergency line height be in relation to the overflow weirs? Thanks
Usually just above the bottom of the teeth
Does the water level sit slightly above or below the emergency drain? Mine is still loud. It sits slightly above the emergency drain
Should be below
Did you glue your pvc pipe to your sump?
All of the fittings are glued if thats what you mean
Lol I meant did you glue the drain pipes into your sump bulkheads.
I was contemplating the Bean Animal Style, but now the Herbie doesn't look all that bad.
Its super quiet👍
First😂
😄😎
