Every animal is on an extraordinary journey through life with one goal: To produce the next generation. This is life's great story. They set out to build a group, a family, a troop, one that will rule and in turn provide for their offspring not just survival but dominance of the land. We meet them at a pivotal stage in their lives and follow their fate as they strive to fulfil their biological destiny. It may be from the moment they are born, from the moment they are forced out of their family or from the moment they make a play to become a leader. But all will create a dynasty.

The thing is that “painted wolf” as a common name for Lycaon pictus is being pushed by conservation organizations to avoid confusion with invasive domestic/feral dogs, which causes negative connotations as it causes people to think this is an invasive species when it’s a native and endangered species (this has been an actual problem).
However, the conservation organizations pushing for this name change are deliberately spreading misinformation to justify this, claiming that Lycaon are more closely related to wolves than they are to domestic dogs…..which is complete and utter nonsense, since domestic dogs and wolves are outright the same species while Lycaon diverged from that lineage much further back.
Come on, just call them “painted dogs”. Plenty of wild canids have “dog” at the end of their common name, and unless they’re called “wild dogs” they don’t get confused for domestic dogs but are culturally recognized as their own species. So this way you can avoid confusion with domestic dogs AND not mislead people.

It's raining in Korea/Seoul, which we've been waiting for so long yesterday.
It was the time from last fall to the present, which was the driest in almost 50 years.
And recently, there has been a 10-day forest fire. I'm really glad.

Dogfish are hardly dogs either and nor are many other species similarly named for dog-like traits (or wolf life for that matter. The red maned wolf is hardly a wolf). I don't see why anyone would find it difficult, or derogatory (I doubt the dogs get offended), to call an African wild dog an African wild dog and understand they're different species.
Perhaps it's a case of dumbing things down for the sake of it? Although people seem to have no trouble understanding that a Scottish wild cat isn't a domestic cat. Seems like everything is getting renamed for no reason these days...any thoughts?

It wasn't really to protect the wild dogs, it's more that buffaloes can't stand seeing or having lions around because of the danger they pose to the herd. And I guess this buffalo just had a personality that was unfortunately too brave for its own good. But indirectly it ended up saving the wild dogs, by trying to chase off the lions.
