My Grandma Opal would save any new night gowns she would get as gifts “just in case I go somewhere nice”, or “the hospital”. When she passed away at 93, she had over 50 gowns still in their original boxes!
My mom kept getting dad new pants, when he'd put a pair on she'd get after him saying " why are you wearing those...save them for good" Dad got frustrated once and snapped back, " Save them for good? Shoot I'm 93 years old, how many pants do you think I need for my funeral?!!!" Lol
Jason, Brooke and MaryCarl are all Guardians of all Animals/Flocks Big and Small. The Love just Pours Out and it’s Wonderful to see and it’s feels like a Blessing your Sharing with all of the COG Squad. Jason have you ever tried electric socks? We are all hoping for you to have the home build started, but we get to see a whole different perspective of your lifestyle as you nurture and support each other as you grow the COG Hill 40. From the outside looking good in what your providing and your interactions are quite refreshing and we are loving it. Stay warm, stay safe and may you continue to harvest the COG Hill 40 Blessings. 😊✨🐮✨👍👍👍
Bless you on your endeavors with those precious animals. Ya'll are so stinking cute!! I love the way you talk to them and love on 'em AND Who goes on the internet and talks about their socks? Gosh I love it and you!!
in regards to the sock thing, just always buy him socks that look the same, that way you still have matches for the widowed sock. lol. cuase he throws one away from a pair put that orphan in the drawer cause we know eventually he's gonna do it again, than bam a pair of socks. :)
Great podcast. We had a German Shepherd we got when he was about 8 weeks old he was the runt of the litter. He was so small the man that bought the litter wouldn't take him. We was friends with the man that had him and he gave him to us. Him being so small we kept him in the house then when he got big enough that we could put him outside it was cold so we kept him in the house for the winter then he wouldn't stay outside. If we put him outside he would set by the door and bark tell we let him in. He was one of them loving dogs. When I got home from work he had to spend sometime with his front legs and chest on my lap. When he was a puppy to lad on my lap, but after he was 65 pounds he still wanted to be on my lap. Love you'll. Stay safe and God bless you'll. Dan
Brooke my sweet sweet MIL did the same thing. When she passed there were so many things she never used because she was saving them for a special time. Well I started to use all my good stuff and it made me so happy. I don’t want my kids to find gifts and things they have given me unused. You said it, good things will last and make you more comfortable.
Hooray! Just scored a Cogcast! Can’t have more fun than watching this… except your other channel! Maybe Mildred is just adapting to grazing etc., so doesn’t need the evening bottle all the time! I often have to change pillows… I keep different ones because of arthritis etc. and sometimes I need something different. And when my neck is stiff or something! The right pillow makes all the difference.
Pitbulls are affectionate as well as protectors. They have great personalities, too. I wasn't a pitty lover until my husband brought one home. I named her Shelby. That sweet girl would let me put clothes and her and she LOVED it. Before I had her, I was scared, I had bought into all the bad hype. And I fully know what you're talking about with Dobermans. My mama just got her 2nd one. Her first one, I called dingy, caused the way they act, but they are very smart little boogers. They need LOADS of time and attention. Cody, her new one has taken a liking to sitting on her foot when she has her legs crossed. He just plops that little butt right down on her foot, like it's a bar stool. 😂
Funny, when I saw you open your snuggies, I bought my hubby and I one each... we love ours... I wouldn't miss a podcast or your regular day to day Cogcasts... Thank you so much for continuing to produce them... I have encouraged my nephew to continue his channel... Honey Do Dan... His daughter who is six just completed a tutorial for a doll menu... I have a new appreciation for MaryCarl.... continuing to pray for miracles for you all.... I sent the angels of the Lord to go after and to bring in the trusses... Now is good...
Loved all your memories today about your dogs. Glad the barn can be repaired. Hopefully things will change this year so you can get started on your house. Stay safe out there. GOD BLESS Y'ALL.
Thank you, Brooke, for restraining Jason’s fiddlin! This is one reason I don’t enjoy “lives” on several channels. They spend much of the time looking at and fiddlin with their phones and laptops. I so enjoy your podcasts! Like sitting around with family and visiting!
I used to be like you, Brooke. Save the best and use the old. I'm almost 70 and I have learned that I deserve to use what I have. If I use it up or wear it out, at least I enjoyed it instead of leaving it to go to Goodwill when I am gone. Use it up and wear it out, Girl.
That goes for your jewelry too. Why save it for special occasions and only wear it a few times in your life? I say get money's worth and wear it whenever I want 😁
Wow, I throughly enjoyed this episode. Felt like sitting at a table just visiting with friends. Thank so much. God bless you. PS. Tell Marycarl the James Herriot series was one of my favorite reading.
You are all “naturals” when it comes to the “podcasts” and on your “you tube” channels. I love to sit and watch you, but even when I can’t I have your channel or podcast playing in the background. Please don’t change. I also love your interaction w/your animals. They are soooo blessed to have you.
Good morning Cog Hill and Cog squad Happy to watch yet another great podcast the best channels on Utube. Here in Indiana back in December we were in the 40 and 50 thats a very mild December now its January we are getting down in the teens and Thursday night its supposed to be getting down to 6 degrees its funny how the weather has been changing all over the United States. I grew up with German shepherds had golden retrievers had a Husky now I have a Pembroke Welsh corgi and Boston terrier Beagle mix im very much a dog man
Golden retrievers are awesome! Any retriever is just a bundle of love. We had two black labs - they were, hands down, the sweetest, smartest dogs we ever had. I miss them - and am so glad to hear when someone gets a retriever of any kind!
We can tell how much you all love animals. And good to see people show how to care for and love on them as their family. Y'all do a great job with your podcast!
My little dachshund is the most playful and loving dog. She doesn't even realize she is a dog because she has rarely been around other animals of any kid. Took her to our daughters and she was playing with the goats like she was one of them. 😃 It was so funny. One of her bad habits is that she is a sock thief!
I’m a 68 year old city-raised person who received a garden tower for Christmas. So I used your link to order a seed starting kit and lettuce seeds from Hoss Tools. I’m excited to see if this old lady can be a successful gardener. Ha!
I’m very excited for you! My daughter started gardening 2 years ago with the Green Stalk, thanks to Jason’s recommendation, now she has raised gardens, and large (55 gallon food grade containers, cut in half) planted, she also bought another Green Stalk, I call her Farmer Johnson, she’s adorable and so happy growing food and flowers. She grew all our squash, peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, cucumbers and strawberries this summer. We made fresh from the garden salsa and baked squash casserole , they were awesome.
Love listening to you guys. Such great subjects, catch up on the new house, animal updates, repairing the barn, Jason’s socks (aka sock connoisseur), Brooke’s underwear🤣😂🤣 Take care, stay warm & cheers🐨🦘🥰
I always look forward to getting the notification that there's a new Cog Hill podcast or video. I always make sure I have a cup of coffee and a snack and sit back and watch. Love to see your family and all the furry, feathered friends. My mom used to save everything because it was too good to use. I'm glad Brooke is over that because I wish my mom would have enjoyed using everything and not "saving" them. My mom needed 24 hour care and went into a nice home because I had to work and couldn't give her the care she needed. I put all her things in a storage place and saw that a lot of it were things she "saved". Well, someone broke the lock on the storage unit and took everything, all her treasures were gone. Enjoy what you have and if you don't really want them, give them to someone else that will enjoy them. 😊
I found out about quality over quantity when I bought some Norm Thompson socks for 6.95 pair instead of flea market socks. You will go through a dozen of the cheap socks before you wear out a pair of Norm Thompson socks. And as it always goes, Norm Thompson stopped selling socks. It also is true when it comes to boxer briefs . One pair of Duluth boxers will last longer than a six pack of Haynes briefs. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR more times than not. Love your channel and videos and your podcasts! Roger in Pierre South Dakota
I love listening to you both because you keep it real! If Jason feels comfortable enough to talk about Brook buying him underwear you are my kind of people! And it is true..... you get what you pay for!!Keep your down-home life style. It is so refreshing!
Yes, it’s hard for us, the diy’ers, to pay for work to be done, but, there are only so many hours in the day and sometimes learning a new skill takes too long and the mistakes are too costly! Good move getting help! Happy new year! 🎈
Wool socks are the best for cold weather. I’ve learned that you get what you pay for with socks and mittens. I struggled for years with inexpensive mittens and finally invested in leather choppers and, oh my, what a difference. If it’s an item for safety don’t skimp.
Recommendation: Steel-toes boots around cows. If/when they accidentally step on your foot, 1) you'll have a crushed foot, or 2) your steel-toed boots will save your foot.
My grandmother used to say "save your pennies so you can spend your dollars". Which I took to mean when you buy something buy quality because it will; last longer in your case grow better... it's important
When my boys were still at home, I would buy white socks with gray heels and toes for one boy and plain white for the other... so when holey socks got thrown away, the good sock would always find a mate eventually. 😊🤣
I grew up with a Pomeranian named Heidi Ho. She was the runt of the litter and was big. After getting married we got a female Cocker Spaniel Bridget, then a black male, Bear. They had three puppies, we kept Lisa Jane (missing a back foot but she was fast runner) and Jackson, a sweet big boy. After they died. I got a lost Morkie named Rudy. He was my soul mate. Now I have Teddy, a black and white Cavapoo. I will always have dogs.
A very enjoyable podcast this morning. Reminiscing about dogs previously owned triggered my own memories. Educational regarding seeds and gardening. Updates regarding building your new home. I even enjoyed the discussion of socks and underwear. 😊 Great start for my day. 👍🏻👍🏻
@3:11 I live in upstate NY so hearing 3 inches of snow referred to as a "Blizzard" tickled me! Glad yall are keeping warm in your new long johns and snuggies!
I thought the same thing. I live in Wisconsin and we got 6 inches a few days ago and it was no big deal. Last time we had a blizzard was 2 years ago when got 2 feet in 24 hours.
Brooke, you are now my more favorite person learning that you had Dobermans, I had a Doberman when I was a kid but she was hugely affectionate I guess they each have their own personality for sure!!!
Also Milly reincarnated as Mildred! 💕 I just love your family and videos! I’m in PA and do not miss them! Also MaryCarl needs to come on the podcast and talk more about her Victorian crowns. Maybe a q&a. I would like to know more about them! 💕😊
Boy the winds were crazy up here in Oregon a couple days ago. Our wind speed was averaging 20 with gusts of 37-40. Had a board game out on my back porch that we left out for the next day, and the next morning it was spread out all over my side garden and it's box was on the neighbors roof! 😳 Shame on me for not cleaning up 🤦♀️ the family up the street hangs large (kickball size) plastic ornaments up. Well the wind knocked them down off their magnolia tree and down the hill they must have rolled over the night! On our walk to the bus to meet my son's friends, we saw ornaments all along the street. stuck under bushes and wedged under cars. We were gathering them up on the way back up the hill 😂
You guys take such good care of all the critters. They are certainly living their best lives! We’re having a “warm” winter so far here in upstate NY - it’s hardly gotten into the 20s at night. I’m enjoying the global warning!!
I'm a professional artist and teach art, but still find it hard to open new tubes ,etc. Crimp and scrape the old ones still. Art supplies are so expensive.
@@rosaliemaguire lol well, you sound like me! Maybe save the old for your students. And for teaching. But treat yourself to all those pretty supplies! I know what you mean by expensive! My son is an adult now. But I always encouraged him with his gifts and talents. To hone his skills. And it seems when he was younger, supplies were reasonably priced. Then, all of a sudden, they became so expensive! And TY AFOR TEACHING! An art teacher really encouraged my son. And really boosted his confidence. It’s one thing for mom to say it. And something totally different when a teacher says it. So TY FOR YOUR WORK!
@@wordswritteninred7171 Art is amazing. Best thing I did was to leave law and get an art degree. I teach from home for my own biz now and painting with adults is great, but I just love the kids. Art is therapy for me, and I sketch/draw everyday. I try to encourage the process of making art, as opposed to the outcome. Anyone can be an artist. 😁
@@rosaliemaguire I couldn’t agree more! And creativity opens the mind, and is a wonderful coping mechanism. Can even help with depression and grief. I am so happy for you, that you decided to do something with your life that you enjoy! Life is too long to spend it doing something, simply for a paycheck!
My neighbors dog is a Great Pyrenees and Siberian Shepherd she is black in color. She is so sweet! Best dog I have never owned! And her name is Butter!
Aloha and good morning from Maui! 🤙🏽🍍🥑🌺🌴🌞 I'm originally from Oregon but retired in Maui about 10 years ago. I don't miss being cold one bit but I do miss sitting in front of the fire wrapped in blankies(pre snugglies) and being all cozy. Looking at y'all this morning made me reminisce. Love you guys and your channel. Do you have a video of Nana(?) or is she camera shy? You guys talk about her and would love to see her! Aloha and have a blessed day!🌺🙏🏽☺️🤙🏽
We lived in an RV while we built and experienced several wind storms. I know how you must have felt. Our poor kitties got wind PTSD and 5 years later still duck for cover when storms come in
My cousin has a registered Beagle named DOOZY. I have a Snuggle Bear, too! I always had mutts. Big and little types. Had a beagle-dachshund mix named Charlie and a dachshund-Chihuahua mix named Scuffy. There were many, many more, too many to mention. Had cats galore, too. Love hearing about your memories, because they bring my memories back. Prayers and blessings I drink coffee fast, too!
You guys are so super helpful. I pray 2022 is a super blessed year for yall. May God shine his favor and his face over The Cog Hill 40 and those that live there. God Bless and keep you!
Happy New Year to you all and thank you for making the end of my shine. I appreciate all your time and effort for such great knowledge and entertainment.
You 100% correct Jason, Golden retrievers are beautiful and loves anybody and everybody….and yes goldens paws you because that want you to give them attention…we have one she’s now 7 1/2 and very loveable…
Will trade you weather forecasts and temps! Daily high:34°, Daily low: 12° Nightly High :20° Nightly low: 2°... and had freezing drizzle yesterday morning around 7 quickly changing to lots and lots of snow and wind! 5 a.m. this morning waking up to the sounds of people shoveling snow, or chopping in out of ends of driveways where plows dumped it... lots of fun 🌨☃️ Yesterday we had Winter Weather Advisory, today we lowered it to Winter Weather Advisory with more snow til 7 pm and 2nd day no school for kids ( only 2 days of school since winter holiday break 🙄)
Worst part about being in a camper during a wind storm is when it sneaks up on you and you have your awning down. 3:00am pouring rain, thunder lightning, and crazy wind trying to close up the awning is no fun.
The video and audio is great! It hasn't changed since you started. I have found that "Cheapest is not always the best" in anything you buy! Schnauzers are my favorite. I had collies when I was very young.
you know through your move to the Cog Hill 40 this phrase kept coming to mind. "Don't give up if plan A doesn't work. There are 25 more letters in the alphabet after all " This phrase just fits I think and would make an amazing t-shirt
I enjoyed that chat so much! You were keeping me company while I cut and washed my hair and then while I made a few Christmas cards for next year ….thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧 x x x
I just love you all so much! We have so much in common ❤ I have always been a big animal lover and I truly love gardening. I wish I were closer so Brooke and I could have a coffee date! ☕☕Stay warm!! PS I also have Cuddle Duds and I love them. They are essential here in the freezer box we call Minnesota 🥶
You're very wise getting someone to to the barn. Your time is worth a lot. While James is doing the barn, you have plenty else to do. Its good to recognize when something is too much for you. He can have you already using the barn. While doing it yourself, could have you not being able to use it for months or even years.
My Grandma Opal would save any new night gowns she would get as gifts “just in case I go somewhere nice”, or “the hospital”. When she passed away at 93, she had over 50 gowns still in their original boxes!
My mama got a beautiful white nightgown for her birthday or Christmas and she saved it to be buried in.
My mom kept getting dad new pants, when he'd put a pair on she'd get after him saying " why are you wearing those...save them for good" Dad got frustrated once and snapped back, " Save them for good? Shoot I'm 93 years old, how many pants do you think I need for my funeral?!!!" Lol
thats called hoarding hope you share and not repeat the hoardeyness
That is kinda sad. She should have enjoyed those nice gowns she liked so much.
That generation experienced the depression. They had to go without so many things. It made them very frugal.

Odd socks rock, I seldom wear matching pairs
Thank you for posting this morning❣️. I feel like a groupie❣️. Y’all are precious ❣️. Love your stories❣️
I can remember my grandma putting a light bulb in a sock to mend it. She would see one way then weave through it the other way.

Cog Squad
Mildred is eating more solids, so full at night. But by morning she has digested it all and is hungry!
Huddle up y’all, stay warm.
You guys are the only farmsteading vloggers I enjoy. So authentic and such clearly kind people to the animals. Thank you for sharing your stories.
Lov the snuggies looks Soo comfee n warm. I know that may not be what you call them lol but it's ok.
Love your podcasts!! You all are so down to earth. You talk about things we all struggle with.
Howdy Jason and Brooke
Loved all your memories today about your dogs. Glad the barn can be repaired. Hopefully things will change this year so you can get started on your house. Stay safe out there. GOD BLESS Y'ALL.
I love hearing your stories about your dogs. Makes me think of my dogs. ❤️

Jason try loosening you boot laces a bit. I find if my laces are too tight my feet get cold. It works for me. Gives my feet more circulation.

A very enjoyable podcast this morning. Reminiscing about dogs previously owned triggered my own memories. Educational regarding seeds and gardening. Updates regarding building your new home. I even enjoyed the discussion of socks and underwear. 😊 Great start for my day. 👍🏻👍🏻
Alpaca socks are also VERY good at keeping your feet warm OMGosh they are a huge gamechanger!
Hi Jason, and Brooke please 🙏 for me I'm in the hospital with a blood clot in my lung,God Bless you all
Enjoyed hearing about your dogs. We never stop loving them, do we?
I'm like that with art supplies, Brooke. I don't use my new, expensive ones and keep using my old ones. I think I should just use them.
Practice with old. Use new ones for special projects! My son is an artist. That is what he does
I'm a professional artist and teach art, but still find it hard to open new tubes ,etc.
I'm originally from Oregon but retired in Maui about 10 years ago.
Aloha and have a blessed day!🌺🙏🏽☺️🤙🏽
No ShihTzu are the best sweetest darling fluffs of hugs, love and joy
I’ve got my two under my desk
What kind of soil are you using in your Greenstock?? That could make a difference on how things grow too.
Miracle grow “natures choice” organic pitting soil
Happy New Year to you all and thank you for making the end of my shine. I appreciate all your time and effort for such great knowledge and entertainment.
Enjoyed this podcast guy's talk of all the pups etc. along with info on new house and why delayed. Happy New Year.
You 100% correct Jason, Golden retrievers are beautiful and loves anybody and everybody….and yes goldens paws you because that want you to give them attention…we have one she’s now 7 1/2 and very loveable…
Good morning Coghill and cogsquad!
Will trade you weather forecasts and temps! Daily high:34°, Daily low: 12° Nightly High :20° Nightly low: 2°... and had freezing drizzle yesterday morning around 7 quickly changing to lots and lots of snow and wind! 5 a.m. this morning waking up to the sounds of people shoveling snow, or chopping in out of ends of driveways where plows dumped it... lots of fun 🌨☃️
Yesterday we had Winter Weather Advisory, today we lowered it to Winter Weather Advisory with more snow til 7 pm and 2nd day no school for kids ( only 2 days of school since winter holiday break 🙄)
Love your podcasts and the other videos… I am sooo glad that Lester suggested your page, I look forward to seeing you every day ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦
Worst part about being in a camper during a wind storm is when it sneaks up on you and you have your awning down. 3:00am pouring rain, thunder lightning, and crazy wind trying to close up the awning is no fun.
I'm going to tell you...
Hoss seeds gave me the best garden of my life!
The video and audio is great! It hasn't changed since you started.
I have found that "Cheapest is not always the best" in anything you buy!
Schnauzers are my favorite. I had collies when I was very young.
Bless you all. Hope you stay warm. Its really cold at your farm. God Bless and take care.
Love you Guys!! I enjoyed the Podcast!! I Love Your account of your dogs!! God Bless and have a Wonderful Week!! 😊⚘❤
you know through your move to the Cog Hill 40 this phrase kept coming to mind. "Don't give up if plan A doesn't work. There are 25 more letters in the alphabet after all " This phrase just fits I think and would make an amazing t-shirt
Good morning Cog. Hill Family from. S.E.Tex. 28 degrees here this morning all frozen ice. heck no snow.
Love to hear you guys talk..especially about former dogs...:)..
I enjoyed that chat so much! You were keeping me company while I cut and washed my hair and then while I made a few Christmas cards for next year ….thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧 x x x
I love the no nonsense socks at Walmart. I have every style.
Great pod cast. How's seed is great. The barn clean out was awesome it looked great when you got done.. God Bless.
All over the country, people are not receiving what they ordered in cabinets from the big house stores; and its not just one name plate.
Territorial Seeds is another great seed company. Great customer service as well.
Hi Cog Hill squad! The picture is better! Here in NY we did not have snow yet, not normal for us.
Here in Washington it started snowing Christmas and It was cold and the rain came back. No more pretty white, all melted, gone.
