  • I finally got my M5 tuned! In this video, I bring my BMW E39 M5 to Tuning Tech by Frank Smith for a long awaited dyno tune! I also discover if opening the exhaust valves increases horsepower / torque. Frank Smith is located in Crofton, Maryland and uses a Dynocom Dyno (aka heartbreak dyno).

    Pretty good numbers, both before and after.... For info, in the MSS52 ECU different fuel+ignition maps are used with A/C ON or OFF, so you can have a switchable "Burble N Pop" map/mode using the A/C switch😉👌
    Best regards

    The car came with ~400 crank HP from factory. So with your mods you are now at 373whp = 439 crank - pretty good!

    Your gains are off of the SS headers and the tune basically synchronize the ecu and the headers and exhaust, loss of hp with the valves open is due to lack of back pressure. Look into Alpha N tune if you havent done it or on the fence, look up AJ from Fluid motor union hes knowledgeable with these engines. Also watch out for your temps because these cars heat soaks real fast and the hp gain you got will turn to hp loss in a matter of seconds when the car heat soaks. While doing the iats it is still vulnerable to heat soak during summer or hot weather, Look into re routing more air to ur stock airbox im sure theres plenty on here. Good luck and congrats 🎊

    Nice looking car and powerful too. Your SpongeBob reference cracked me up. Frank has tuned both of my Dinan e39 s2's. So he's used to stupid questions. : ) Thanks for posting this video.

    Hi there... great video. Did you bet B2/B3 Catalytic converter faults when you installed the sport cat? Did the tune solve the problem?

    • @m3blackshadow
      @m3blackshadow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No faults from the exhaust

    • @1kontrabida
      @1kontrabida 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You wont get faults after installing aftermarket headers, but u wil eventually have a check engine light around 50-100 miles . Just so you wont think that installing a SS headers wont trigger the check engine light, it will hence u need a tune to get ur AFRs and etc dialed in.

    you'd of probably had the same increase from just getting a shark tune from Turner..

      Turner Motorsport is an amazing company and while you may be right, you only know if you get readings on the Dyno. I am personally not a fan of out of the box tunes. Even Frank Smith says remote tuning makes him feel a bit like he’s running blind. A custom Dyno tune means that all of your mods are being taken into consideration and you can safely get the most power from the car. It’s as simple as that. I believe that if you own an M car you should do things the right way and the best way, not the cheapest way.

    That dyno take 15% drivetrain loss
    Every tuner say 20% drivetrain loss but that's awesome 15% in which i don't believe

    Hey man, what are all the mods you did prior to getting this tune?

    • @m3blackshadow
      @m3blackshadow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's in the video at 0:35 - Only performance/engine mods are Supersprint headers, Supersprint sport cats, Rogue Engineering X pipe, Supersprint F1 Race mufflers, Badlanze HPE Cutouts before mufflers, and I forgot to mention that I have a Turner Motorsport IAT relocation harness installed. Stock intake, stock paper air filters, stock everything else.

      @@m3blackshadow Remove the tiny snorkle tubes off the airbox for more air, they sit behind the bumper. it was originally used to keep the intake quiet
