There was a lady I met in a urban environment who had several larger macaws. She got a message from a person who had seen a small parrot who was out in the wild. So where we live is too cold outside and too many predators outdoors for them to survive. So she went to see if she could help. So she saw him then he flew to the top of a roof. So she stood there with an open heart and lots of parrot experience. In a minute he flew right down and landed on her. He was a Senegal parrot. One of his eyes had been damaged and he was clearly terrified. So she took him to her vet had his eye looked at and checkup. He was ok just a little too skinny and his eye was treated. She put adds out to try and find his owner but got no response’s She messaged me after that and said that he got along well with her Hyacinth and GW macaws. He’s in the BEST place with people who will care for him, his forever home. These guys are so vulnerable when taken out of their native or bred here and sold. Most people mean well but often it’s a bit too much time and work to care for them properly. I shudder to think of all the birds out there in bondage without the proper care and enrichments etc.
I too have dedicated 35 years now with 4 parrots. My CH conure was with me 34 years before he passed away. He got his forever home with me. I still have a large macaw who I rescued 34 years ago at the age of 10 months. I adopted a neighbor’s CAG who came to my house so they could refinish their hardwood floors. They asked me if I would take him BC they could see that I had the skills and dedication to my other parrots and so he’s been with me ever since. If you have a bird that you don’t have time for or can’t provide it with a happy and healthy life, you should consider finding it a suitable home. Thank you 🙏
