Gotta agree with you.... Ive ridden and owned a number of 'big' tourers in my time. FJR, Goldwings, Road King, Stelvio, K1300 etc etc, and the GTR1400 knocks them all ut of the park. Mine is an 07, so one of the earliest incarnations, but WHAT a machine. Comfortable, fast and handles ... can be ridden across Europe at stupid speed, or just as comfortable to pop into town for yer shopping.... obviously the end can has to be changed from the stock 'dustbin' , reduces the weight considerably & now sounds freakin awesome!!! Oh, and the stock seat is crap. BUT, you can pick one up, 20k ish miles, for half the money of any BMW, AND IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE BECAUSE THE gtr IS ON A PAR IF NOT BETTER!!! IM GLAD THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT IS BIGGING UP THE MIGHTY 1400!!! YES, KEEP THE hARLEY, AND GET A GTR as well..... be rude not to!!!

Interesting take, my two riding friends have a FJR1300 and a Concours GTR1400. I've compared both to my K1200GT. You can't go wrong with any of these three. FJR is the best all rounder, BMW is the most luxurious and lively, and the concours feels the most sporty.. to compare, the concours feels like you sit on top, instead if 'inside' like the FJR and K12GT. Really like the Kwakka, it's a shame they didn't refresh the model. Big inline 4 sport tourers with shaft drive - a dying category of bikes, but they're just so dam good.

I have a 2011 and it's a fantastic ride. As fast as you'll ever need, powerful, smooth handling. It was a good choice over other bikes I was looking at.

I bought one thinking I'd love it, but ended up selling it after the first 8h ride. It gave me knee pain (and pegs were already dragging easily so I couldn't lower them), and was also a bit disappointed by the lack of low down torque for a 1400cc engine (even if it's an inline 4). Maybe it's the weight but bike only starts waking up above 5000rpm. Went back to a Super Tenere 1200, feels torquier down low, less likely to lose my license as I can enjoy it more at "reasoble speeds", and more importantly at 6'1", I'm way more comfortable. I can see how many LOVE the Concours 14, it's an awesome bike if you're not too tall, and have the self control to not risk your license all the time :)

Great video! I've owned many bikes over the years and the Concours 14, GTR1400 to you is simply the best bike I've owned so far. Comfort, power and agility are all present in spades! This from a former BMW K1200GT owner. Speaks volumes!

Interesting! K1200GT owner here, who often rides my friends GTR1400.. still like my beamer more, but the Concours scratches the sport itch better. The main thing I like is the Japanese reliability.

I’ve owned my gtr14 for four years. Normally I change bikes every 2 years but I’ve kept the GTR as it does everything I want. Great two up touring or batshit crazy acceleration when on my own. Handles well for a big heavy bike too. Only downside is it’s a pain in the ass to do basic maintenance, as space is tight and you need to remove a lot to get to do the plugs and valve clearances etc. Oil and filter are dead easy though.

Hi, had that year gtr and I've had zzr 1400 toured Europe on the two of them loved them both. Gtr was slightly to tall for me and when fully loaded and two up bit hairy when stopping on gravel carpark or something. I often wish I had kept the two of them, can't say how much I loved them. Always catch my eye now and get me thinking of buy them again, and I've reached 60 now but still young at Hart!

I agree, I've been riding on this bike for over 80,000 miles since 2012. I have looked hard at the ZX-14R, but since both the Concours 14 and ZX-14 are discontinued, I'm staying on the GTR 1400. Love the engine, the shaft, the ergos, in Texas, it's the best.

I bought my 2009 GTR in December of 2008. I still have the bike. I can't bring myself to sell it. It has been the best all around. I had three Harley Davidsons prior to this. I never went back. I added an Area P end can, Sargent low profile seat, had the ECU flashed. Dead reliable. I wish Kawasaki updated it instead of discontinuing. All of the known issues are easily found online. Nothing major. I'm only looking at new bikes now because 15 years is enough. I just want to try something else. I also have a 675 Street Triple R...another a great bike.

@@Team-fabulous Yes. In December of 2008 I purchased my 2009 Concourse from Cycle World of Cherry Hill, NJ which is now out of business. They brought the bike from their warehouse, uncrated and prepped it for me. I traded my 07 Street Glide which covered the cost of the Kawasaki ($11500) I think is what I paid. They actually owed me money as my 07 Street Glide trade exceeded the cost of the Kawasaki. I kept a three ring binder with just about everything I purchased or what service might have been done. I still have the original paperwork from the sale. I haven't been as diligent with my records for a number of years. The bike looks brand new but isn't worth much now.... except to me. The bike is in my thumb nail photo.

I bought a new 07 ZX14 back in the day and it was the most unbelievable bike I’d had. Having come off a 98 ZX11, it was a similar ergo but mounds more power and braking. And everything else. I mistakenly sold that bike. A couple of years ago I bought a pristine 08 Concours 14 with low mileage and in perfect condition and I absolutely love it. I had it remapped with a slip on and the power to me is very reminiscent of the zx. It will rip your arms out. The hard bags and taller bars and taller windscreen just work well now that I’m 15 years older. Great bike. Thanks for the video.

They needed to keep up with display developments, cruise control, and minor fairing updates. I had the 1000 and then the 1400 - brilliant bikes!
Currently on a 1250 GS Adventure, but IF they updated the GTR1400, modernizing it, AND if I were to consider a long distance cruise-rocket, the GTR would be top of my list.

I've got a 2013 gtr and I have to say it's stunning, the only thing thats wron with it is the rear tyre, stick a michelin road six 190/55/gt17 on the back and you get near supersport handling on this baby, flicks like a gsxr1000 in the corners, you won't regret it!

I had 2 ZZR 1400 but as I am 60 Plus and 6 ft 2 I decided I wanted something with a bit more comfort. I now ride a 2017 GTR 1400 and yes its an amazing bike. True it is is a detuned ZZR engine but its set up with more torque for touring. had it for 2 years now and it hasn't missed a beat. Its no lightweight but once its moving you cant feel it.

2009 model remus hexacone exhaust and ECU flashed By P3tuning Liverpool, sold my 08 zzr1400 for the GTR1400, just amazing bike as you said, changed rear tyre for 190.55.17 and gets even better! handles phenominally with that tyre on now... apart from the obvious weight between the 2 bikes, GTR much better for me.

I own the last ZZR 1400 Performance Sport to be sold in Europe, I guess Kawasaki simply weren't prepared to ostracize their flagship bike by being forced to make it comply with ever more restrictive EU emissions rules. This allowed it to bow out as King of production motorcycles. It's an awesome machine, a triumph of engineering and so much fun to ride. The dealer where I bought it has had several GTR's, which although a more practical tourer I find it's looks ( front on) too insectoid and scooter like. Also reviews I watched critiqued the brakes and cornering stability.
I also own a Rocket 3 GT which on paper should be the faster bike based on torque and admittedly it does pull like the proverbial train. However where it runs out of steam the Kawasaki is just warming up. To sum it up I took my eighteen year old son for his very first pillion ride on the Rocket. First real twist of the throttle he uttered the words "F'n Wow!!" Next I took him on the ZZR, first real twist of the throttle his words were "Holy Sh!+ !!" 😲😂

      Hey Wolfey....
Did u try the gtr to compare it to the rocket,(gen 1 or 2 rocket?), and the zzr14?
If you have, it would be gr8 to hear ur thoughts.
Has ur son got his first road bike yet?
      Kind Regards.

@@colinm1325 Hi Colin, Thanks for your reply to my comment and your question regarding a comparison between the three bikes. Sorry I didn't try the GTR though perhaps I should have, it looks a more comfortable and practical touring bike than the ZZR. Sadly reviews critiquing it's braking and cornering prowess ruled it out for me. I believe the GTR is only slightly down on power compared to the ZZR. In which case the Rocket would have the upper hand initially but the GTR would surpass it with its higher rev band. As a tourer the GTR would be far more practical. The weather is dreadful at the moment otherwise I might have tried to make the comparison for you.
Regarding my son, yes I bought him a KTM 125 Duke, he's awaiting his provisional licence and CBT before he can ride it. We will video his progress and his learning journey once the weather improves and his licence and CBT are in order. Obviously you're interested in the GTR, let me know how you get on. I hope 2024 turns out to be a good year for yourself 👍😀
