My choir is doing this piece in our spring choir concert. Those high Bs are a nice challenge for a tenor 1. That soloist fit the style of the piece perfectly!
My school does this song every year for the spring concert, and every year they actually have a few girls to the tenor part because some of the guys can’t sing high enough. I’m one of them, I really like doing the tenor part. Even if a few parts are too low, but my ensemble teacher just has us switch up to alto for the parts we can’t reach
Very Nice job . Our barbershop group The Cape Breton Chordsmen have sung this with The Men of the Deeps (Miners Choir ) here on Cape Breton Island home of the writer Leon Dubinsky. The song is Cape Bretons unofficial anthem
i preformed the stab version in may of 09. we were one of the first hs to get the satb from the publisher but i also got to listen to this version off of the cd. my director mrs gilber was there in that room listening to choir leoni. this peace was my senior song. trust me there is no better song to graduate with than this one
"The song was written by Leon Dubinsky, a songwriter from Sydney, Nova Scotia, for a 1984 stage musical titled The Rise and Follies of Cape Breton,[1] as an anthem of resilience and hope at a time when Cape Breton Island was going through an economic crisis." It was known as a coal miners' song when coal mining was the main industry in Cape Breton, where mines were under the ocean itself. It still is sung in Nova Scotia particularly in times of trouble to show their resilience.
Nice tux! Choir very very good. Although, they committed an unforgivable sin. Wy was there NO organist??? I saw an unused organ (Hammond, possibly - an even BIGGER SIN!!!) . Man, that, and another 50 voices, of ladies and kids..), well, that arrangement would have floored me. Guess I'll have to write it out..

SuperStartrekfan I sung this too for choir, but I also sung it with Chor Leoni.
