Lyrics:
Waloyo yamoni. (Waloyo.)
Wan wamito kot ochwe, oony akirok chutok
Oami! In, kot, alami ichwe. Ka i chwe, beber.
Ka monwa olelo (ber)
Ka atino oleo (ber)
Ka awobi owero (ber)
Ka adwong olelo (ber)
Eryamita ka jigi jigi.
Eryam, alech alelech.
Ka kot adok Burutok
Ka yamo adok Burutok
Ilech.
Alech alelech.
Ilech. Opong.
Ilech i dula.
Kalwa opong dero.
English Translation:
We overcome this wind. (We overcome.)
We desire the rain to fall, that it be poured in showers quickly.
Ah! Thou rain, I adjure thee fall. If thou rainest, it is well.
If our women rejoice (it is well)
If the children rejoice (it is well)
If the young men sing (it is well)
If the aged rejoice (it is well)
A drizzling confusion.
Confusion, a torrent in flow.
If the rain veers to the south
If the wind veers to the south
A torrent in flow.
Overflowing. May it fill.
An overflowing in the granary.
May our grain fill the granaries.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I've always been very proud of this piece... even more than Baba Yetu, Sogno di Volare, and some of my better known ones. And conducting the final few minutes is a total blast. :)
I'm very happy that you're so proud of it. Because I consider this one to be your best!
While I love Baba Yetu this one is definitely my favorite for the sheer amount of energy in it so you should definitely feel very proud of it.
This is my favourite - the sheer power of the song, contrasting the gentler sections is just incredible.

Christopher Tin should compose the anthem of humanity.
Wasn't it Songo di Volare?
His next album is about that... Imagine, a whole album with songs dedicated to the human spirit
Baba Yetu is the song in the language from the place where humankind initially evolved from, the so-called "Cradle of Life." I think that should qualify as the anthem of humanity.

What this teaches us, is that you can produce a masterpiece, put it on the internet, and it'll take the world 4 to 6 year before discovering you. But once it's done, you'd better have a lot of good stuff already there. It's the case for this masterpiece trending on TikTok and Instagram Reels lately, and it's been the same for Ayushman the kid that sang "Lord I thank you for sunshine". Yeaah, it's me again. I just wanted to tell you that, after hearing this song for the first time, I developed this urge to randomly shout "WALOOOOYO YAMONIIIIII" while walking around the house. Kind of like a battle cry to tell the world "make way!!!". Luckily my aunt is deaf, so she can't hear me yelling. Too bad the dogs aren't 😂

Beautiful! That's a Lango traditional song. It's sung when there's intense drought and people are praying for the rain to fall. The Lango is a Luo tribe in Northern Uganda.
I am a Lango. There are a few familiar words but if you hadn't mentioned it there's no way on earth I would have imagined that it is a Lango traditional song. African music in orchestra is the combo we all needed. Masterfully crafted by Christopher Tin. And the male soloist is something else with his vocal runs.
My soul was not prepared for this. But it embraced it like a warm blanket of hope.
I wouldn’t mind calling this the song of humanity!
That's my mother language. Luo is a sweet language. A month ago this song was performed at cultural festival in Lira, a city in Northern Uganda by a group of beauty queens contesting for Miss Lango. It was sweet to hear it from home. Lango are among the Native speakers of Luo the language in the song.
I kept wondering how easy it was for me to go with the flow. 🤭☺😂
It's so wild to me how I just don't know this language at all. There's a dialect/language in my small country of the Netherlands that has about 400.000 speakers (Frisian). Welsh has about 540.000, Scottish about 1.5 million, which is about the same as Luo. I never knew it existed before 5 minutes ago. They say in life either your heart breaks or it hardens. Mine was the former and then the latter. Nobody asked, but in no particular order, these are things I love about being able to watch this performance:
1. The soloists are incredible - the power in their voices really shines and that bit at the climax where they sing simultaneously for the first time is SO good! They blend so well, and clearly make a great team.
2. The little exchanges and glances between the conductor and the soloists - you look like you're having so much fun in general but I love being able to see that you're about to bring in a soloist for their next bit by watching your eyeline and expressions.
3. The percussionist who pops up with a new instrument every five minutes with a plain expression like it's nothing, in a way that kind of reminds me of a bugs bunny sketch? He's clearly very good at what he does, and I know percussionists generally do have to play multiple instruments in a piece, but this one in particular makes me smile.
Well explained!❤
Yes to everything!

It is sad that something this beautiful has taken so long to circulate!!! I have to agree that it is an amazing capturing of the language and the orchestration just further captures the beauty of it!!!
Well, I'm a Ugandan who has just come across it and had to drop my comment here where my fellow Ugandan was
You can say that again. Our media focus on mundane issues. This was an opportunity to market Uganda and Africa, but what do they show,,violence, deaths and more violence on Tv,sad
Fellow Ugandan here, and Lango.
I sat in silence, viewing a minute TikTok version of this song, stunned and drawn to this joy coming through the clip of a performance. I came to TH-cam for the full performance, and the restoration, joy and warmth that it has brought my soul is overwhelming. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. ❤️
It's just so astonishing.
Still brings me into tears 😢2023!
Hello from Colombia, i have chills every time i listen this marterpiece. If you hear this and does not feel nothing deep inside: you are already dead!
Whoever is that male soloist is, OH MY GOODNESS!!! His voice gave me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes! This piece is so passionate and uplifting, and exquisitely executed.

If our women rejoice, if the children rejoice, if the young men sing , if the aged rejoice , it is well ! It is well. What a beautiful story ❤️
Wish it just said if men sing, what about us middle aged men 🤔
You are in the aged category, rejoice
@@chrishart763 we men are fucked bruh. Nobody cares about us 😢😢😢
@@chrishart763 the aged
Yes. Beautiful ❤
This is a godsend. This kind of art is something i hope carries on. What it's able to do. What it can bring to life. The art of conducting, the art of the orchestra, and everything encompassing it. That's something i can hardly put in to words. Something i pray school keeps in circulation, music. The ability to be able to bring this beautiful African language out in such a light and give it that extra layer of beauty through this masterful orchestra, it's astounding. Im almost running out of words to describe how enamored i am. Bless you Christopher Tin and bless the entire team of masters you've assembled to create this beauty.
I’ve sung in many choruses and choirs. Have never encountered anything as astonishing as this. And also have never seen a conductor smile like this man. Clearly, this masterpiece is bringing joy to audience and performers alike.
This masterpiece could have been chosen as the Avatar 2 soundtrack. Simply breathtaking
Or black panther I was thinking!
Or it could just stand alone and be it’s own thing.
I agree with you!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yessssss
I thought so too, it would fit so well!
I have JUST discovered THIS MASTERPIECE (from a short clip on Instagram, I HAD to get the full version)! I don't do much chorals or Opera (sadly I know... )
But This gave Goosebumps and Shivers during 13min and brought emotions.
I now NEED to see a Choral Live ! It is a MUST. Mister Christopher Tin thank you for those amazing shows, songs, Chorals. You have made a new fan right now. 🙏🏾
Same here
You and me both!
Oh yes!! You are in for such a treat if you go to a live performance! Something about being in the room, the way the notes sound in the room acoustics, the showmanship…i hope you love it! Please share your experience ❤
Absolutely loved everyone’s performance
Me too. It is awesome!
So I have watched this video an embarrassing (or not) amount of times. I had no idea what they were actually saying. It was just beautiful music, the vocals, instruments and down to the conducting. This man made you feel the music.
I always thought it had to be some uplifting song that gave you hope. Then today, I watch it and it gave me the English translation and it made me feel this song again like it was the first time I’d ever heard it. To see that it’s all actually about, almost like a rain dance song. Absolutely a beautiful song and expressed by this group so well. But also such an eye opener to a different culture, that a beautiful song as this is, is also just a prayer for the rain to come. Almost like a hymn. Ok, time to go listen again. 😅😊
In the desription of the vid are the original words and the translation.
This has got to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard!!! Simply brings me to tears each and every time I hear it. Just found it and and its 5 years old? Simply WOW!!! Thank you Mr. Tin and every musician in this orchestra.
Dear Christopher,
Thank you. I've been struggling with depression for so long, I forgot what it feels like to be alive. This song helped me remember.
Thank you for reminding me why I should keep going.
You have a beautiful gift, touching people's hearts like this.
God bless you
Look for beauty and your depression will be cured. Watch a documentary by Roger Scruton about why Beauty Matters. Everything around is ugly. Beauty is our connection to the divine, and ultimately, it’s uplifting in nature. Best of luck
You are not alone my friend I pray that you find meaning and don't lose hope, you are a beautiful and valuable soul richly woven into the tapestry of the universe and you have only begun to see your potential!
My wife and I are trying to have a child together through ivf. It has already been a difficult couple of years now which made me emotionally numb. Trying to stay strong for my wife whilest protecting myself from the struggles created a thick layer around my heart. Last week we had a miscariage and i couldn't cry anymore or have some other kind of emotion. Every now and then I come back to this masterpiece. It always manages to peel the layers away and frees my emotions. My own little desire the rain to fall. Beber.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Never give up hope!
For surely there is an end. In the name of Jesus, I decree an end to everything stealing your joy. The last disappointment will be the last. Before the end of this year, your joy will be full. Please ensure to share your testimony. Shalom.
I wish with all the energy in me that you and your wife get pregnant and have a beautiful healthy child!
Praying for an overflow of blessings in your life. So sorry that your going through this but I’m praying that you are blessed with a beautiful, healthy baby ❤
I'm so sorry for your loss ❤
This orchestra confirms to me that Heaven will be great!!!
TikTok brought me here after listening for 1 min and I must say, the vibe is awesome
This is genuinely a masterpiece, it's one of those rare moments in life when you can hear the strength and love of the human spirit in a musical form
Thank you for putting in words what I was feeling.
!!!!yes yes!Yes
Absolutely! It gets to the roots of your foundation in every way possible.
Maestro Tin, thank you for changing the world. Yes, it took 4+ years for this piece to become rediscovered into the mainstream…but it’s because the world needs it now, more than ever.
This video has become an evening calming ritual for my 16-month-old toddler and me. She absolutely loves the sounds and watching the video. We've even started singing it lol that's how much we've watched it. ❤
It's been months of heatwave and dry summer here in SEA and somehow YT recommended this to me again. I listened and sing along with it. Few hours later, IT SUDDENLY RAINED 😮
Those soloists omfg
Who was the first soloist?
