They call it Soul Red Metallic for a reason. You must leave a piece of your soul in every paint job to get it correct. Definitely Not for the faint of heart or amateur. Beautiful work.
Painted my 2000 s10 race truck this color used matrix mpb lv with Ag-40 euro clear...my father in law has been painting since the early 80s and it kicked our ass... super tricky color. Walked out the entire truck like a candy paint job.and it still acted funny. Over all great paint job but completely different look then the mazda cars look.
....I STARE at that color when I see it parked somewhere...the most glorious red on the market so deep that if you don't hold onto the ground you'll fall into it!!!
Great work bro! Autobody painter of 24yrs here PPG for life! Envirobase is great product no complaints its great for collision work. I still go back to dbc for overall jobs . Keep up great work brother!
We had an MX-5 in Soul Red. Magnificent color. I was always afraid that it would get damaged and need a repaint because I KNEW it would be almost impossible to get it back to factory perfection.
Always looking great man. Back to the days when this color first launch, its a night mare to spray. In our paint system, its not tinted clear for the candy, its just binder with concentrate red which makes it alittle easier to spray. But man, u do a great job with any paint system. 👍👍. Btw, appreciate if you can teach how to do a soft edge masking on your knees. I tried alot of times and it just didn't turn out straight enough the edge 😅
great work. I've heard these are a royal pain, you did a super job. that's the only way to be, top quality, there's enough hackers in the world- in every industry. Thanks !
My paint manufacturers formula for this has the candy mixed in the clear base like a pearl tricoat. I couldn't get it to look right until I started putting the last bit into my first coat of clear and finishing like this. I hope this might help someone
Hy. I have a question for u man, i love these color and your work is excellent. My question is that when u are spraying these colors u use the same colors just more coats or do u use different colors in each coat? I am a nooby in these kind of thing but i want to paint my car like this.
Nice work, I paint this quite well using tinted clear. Shade used is key and percentage of tint/clear. Have you painted 51k rhodium white yet? 😨 this is my new nemesis 😅
New subscriber here binge watching all your stuff, I use glasurit 90 line waterborne paint they really make this color so easy to spray and match sprays like any tri coat I would love to see you and paint society colab and try out the product and give it a review
Question when you say u add the one hand of clear on the parts of the panel that haven’t been sprayed yet! You add the rest of the hand on the rest of the job or u wait bout 10 mins to clear the rest and than just add ur final hand?
I have a GM (Australia) kandy but a bit darker than your colour here. Sadly the kandy paint comes pre-mixed, such as a clear base with tint so I have little room to move. Should I be matching the base colour (as you would for a 2 coat) as a priority in this case, rather than the kandy? Suggestions please.
Incredible work man. As an owner with this exact paint I am scared shitless of damage because there aren't enough people like yourself with this attention to detail.
As a Miata owner, with many friends with Soul Red, the matching of paint after collision work has been very “hit or miss” . You seem to have a process that works! That outcome looks fabulous! I’ll be sure to send a link to the Miata community!
Casually interested in auto paint but never gone past rattle cans (YET!). I’ve always loved that Mazda red (not the car) and wondered what was up with that paint. Now I know! Thoroughly enjoyed the process, skill, and extra steps. Subscribed and plan to watch more vids!
I'm curious why there's a difference between ppg and Sherwin on this color. My system calls for a black sealer. And use the black sealer and number of base coats to determine how dark you color will be. And I am definitely a fan of the darkest 46v. I painted my Abarth this color when 46v first came out. It looks great but I added a little copper over my base, just a drop coat. Unfortunately it made it brighter, and I regret it, although it does looks amazing. As a custom painter I like to make my cars have that unique color. My dream job besides painting custom cars custom colors and designs would be to create colors for manufacturers that want to venture into flashy colors.
Cool video buddy on our system it’s the normal base then tinted mid coat then clear coat havnt don’t one for a few years now but the first one I did was pretty exciting to do.people say how scary that copper base looks on the normal candy panels lol 😂 great tips for us all buddy and quality as usual 👍👍👍
Excellent job! The 2 happiest days of my life were the day my wife bought a Mazda with 46V and the day I sold it! I read after I got rid of it that Mazda had some paint issues with it chipping, not sure if that is true but the hood was so full of rock chips that I almost repainted the front clip.
They're beautiful, but unfortunately you give up some durability with pretty much any 3-stage paint. That includes pearl whites. They're a little easier to chip and more likely to fade if it's a color in the red family. Also, Im sorry to say your wife may be a tailgater. That's the most common reason for excessive rock chips in the front bumper and hood. Driving too close to veihcles in front of you. Especially semi trucks. No offense, just relaying the facts. Im sure your wife is a lovely person.
@@edjackson4389tailgating or not the rock chips are inevitable. I own a 22 MX-5, it’s my daily and being from Colorado means a ton of elevation changes. I swear I will be in the far right lane going the speed limit and a semi 100 feet a way in the far left will throw a random rock chip on my hood with the winding roads like I-70 and I-76 here. Throw that in with so much traffic and everyone blowing by you going 90. 15k miles in and I’ll probably have to get a respray soon if I don’t end up wrapping it instead
when i first saw that color on the street i was Blown away Mazda throws that on their cars, best red out there without being custom... id love to throw that down on my project vw squareback
Im panel painting quarter to rear door. Was just a gate and bumper job , came out decent, door closed onto quarter as prepper took the car out 😂😂😢😢😢😢 did it once and its to bright red, redo 😭
Beautiful colour and a beautiful finish on the 46V Kandy Man you make it look so easy, I've done this colour once and it came out fine but for some reason the mid coat isn't a true candy in my scheme but it's a basecoat binder with a couple of transparent tinters to get the candy effect, came out looking nice though👌🙏👍John UK
@@HackMasterBlaster I use PPG Deltron (solvent based) and most candies I fix use tinted clear basecoat as the candy layer. Only a few colors are the exception. This Mazda 46V and Fords RR, and few others use the tinted clearcoat method he's demonstrating in this video. So, you never really know til you pull up the formula. As beautiful as they are I despise these colors. Insurance companies rarely pay enough to compensate for the extra labor and material cost associated with these candies.
Nice tip with the transition tape to keep the shape. Never thought of that, Appreciate it. I do the same thing with taping off my blends. Old timer showed me that yrs ago. Makes blending so much easier. Few years back axalta switched from a seperate mid coat to a clear dye... few drops all you need. No more dye back

I don't understand it's halfway through the video before you're painting anything. You claim this is the trickiest color. So no beginner should be painting it. So you spend half your video explaining how to mask, and wipe down a car. 😅 And I disagree, not the hardest color. Unless it's one of the really really beautiful ones. This is the strangest color. Because there's some really great, deep, burgundy red ones. But most of them are just a cool color, but not that super deep burgundy. This is just a color painters shouldn't try to do as little as possible. Like this job. Just blend the hood and suddenly this job doesn't really have any challenges.
this was new to me. the candy is in the clear. always was in the belief that candy was layed after a base and then clear..... life is too short to learn new stuff :D
Hi, Kandy Man, I really like your work on painting this car with 46V Soul Red Crystal. I'm also working on this color in Indonesia but I'm having difficulty, sometimes the first layer isn't dark enough, I add the next layer and it will be darker. Is it true that this color uses paste? Thanks.
So how much would it cost to paint a whole car with that colour ? I'm talking about completely re painting it for example when the car originally got a black colour and you want a 46v on it now... Gotta be like 4 k or something right?
You need to get rid of that PPG and spray glasurit 100 line.. it’s the paint of the future.. it blows everything else away.. this paint job is simple with 100 line.. it’s also the lowest VOC by 40 percent.. the highest quality color match, and the fastest start to finish paint system available in the world..

Its a horrible colour to paint i try my best to avoid it. It has taken me a long time to master , you made a cracking off the Mazda 👏
Awesome job! Is the Mazda Machine Gray Metallic, another three coat paint, the same process or is it easier to blend?
Both difficult
Wow you star!
WHY YOU DIDN'T JUST SEAL THE PRIMER AREA
Question when you say u add the one hand of clear on the parts of the panel that haven’t been sprayed yet! You add the rest of the hand on the rest of the job or u wait bout 10 mins to clear the rest and than just add ur final hand?
