Because of you I bought 5 kits thank you for inspiring me to build what I love the most have 12 inch collection from 1978 and up in the box still unopened now I have something more to show . Just waiting for the tool kit like the one you ordered made for the model kits ,then getting into them .

The thing where the sprues attach to the inside of the pieces is called undergating. I believe it's a bit trickier to design but Bandai often uses it for chrome plated kits where you can't really clean up the surface or for more premium kits to make it easier to keep the armor surface clean.
You've convinced me that I need one of these to go with my Vader & Stormtrooper. I like chrome as much as you do and the only reason I haven't ordered the C3-P0 (yet!) is that I prefer the bad guys. I suppose I'll have to get a First Order Stormtrooper to go with Captain Phasma as well- you're a bad influence on me, and you can take that as a compliment! I enjoy your videos as the camerawork & sound are spot on and you cut out all the speeded-up video of the entire build that other people include and is as much use as a chocolate teapot. Keep doing what you're doing!
I've actually been asked to do the sped up build video, which I would do completely separate, but man, I'm slow at building and that would be a lot of footage to record. I really appreciate the kind words! I just wish there were more new Star Wars models on the horizon.
@@TheFwoosh I can't comment on the speed of your builds as I have yet to receive my Bandai figures. I'm sure I'll be a lot slower than you. I'm filling my time by building the Apollo spacecraft to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 later this year- I so wish they were Tamiya kits rather than Revell! No doubt there'll be more Star Wars models next year when Episode IX comes out.
I had some pretty decent success with the cloth cape by rolling it, bunching it and stressing it so the fibers relaxed a bit and take on some of the wrinkled look it had in the movie. (Tip: do this before adding the red stripe, or half way through the intended amount of stressing, as it can't take as much abuse as the fabric). I also folded the non-red edge under itself by one "neck peg loop" width so her right shoulder is more exposed. Seems to look a little more accurate.
At first I wet the cape, and it took a nice shape but ultimately it still looks very stiff. My second option, which in my opinion looks great, was to use the Black Series cape on the model kit. looks pretty damn good. IMO
Mine should be here any day now. I also took the dive on the rickhor cape which was tough because it cost about as much as the kit itself! haha can't wait to put some oils on the armor and grime it up a tiny bit, should be fun. Thanks for the great review though, always enjoy 'em. Now for the Kylo model kit...

I have built this model kit, the scaling was perfect, what I hate is the blaster color doesnt match the actual movie, a bit nitpicky thought, but yeah, the blaster rifle should be gold dull colored, not straight silver color and same problem as the first order storm trooper, you have to paint black glove thingy on her hand, and you know it is easy to mess up with the chrome part if you paint it. by the way nice review the fwoosh !
Damn, I've only just now learned about these Model Kits. I really want them now and since I have a long Miniatures experience I couldn't help but weather the Models and apply some paint on them :D
I built this, the sprews being on the inside was highly annoying for me haha. She's almost too shiny for me, I think I might pick up the mafex one, and just sell this one on eBay
Nice shine, but not selling me next to the S. H. Figuarts version. My Black Series version just looks like Phasma had a few too many cheese burgers. Have bought a few Jedi Robes thanks to your recommendation. I'm just keeping my figures crossed for a S. H. Figuarts Boba Fett. Keep up the excellent work/reviews. Always a highlight to my TH-cam subscription viewing.
thanks for the review, so shf version is not in correct scale while most of the series are in the range of 150-155mm (Kylo is 160mm, i wonder he is taller than phasma...?) and the model kit is much more shiny and chrome!
This figure looks like it'll be everything I want it to be. I think this chrome finish is pretty much how she looks in the movie, minus the weathering. the cape is disappointing but I can always just cut up some old black pajama pants. Looks like hasbro's is headed back to the box.

I have the robes coming, but when you think how much more work goes into sewing robes together you have to wonder why a simple cape costs so much, except the possibility that he is trying to capitalize on Phasma figures all needing a proper cloth cape. I have no doubt it will look great, but price wise its too much. Its not actually that difficult to cut out a cape from fabric if you have the right kind of said fabric.

I think the chrome is way too over the top. Her armor is supposed to look dirty and used. The chrome seems to be a little off color, too. But that is just my opinion! :) Nice detailed review as always Mr. Fwoosh.
Agree. But this is a model kit. Like every other figure from this line, it's mainly only 1 colour. They're not gunna paint them all, which is great becuase the price is so low. If you're looking for weathered armour look at the other versions released 😀
I quite like the chrome that way, use some black wash it might look even better. Also did any you guys get the FO stormtrooper kit? As am a little ticked off that it never came with a pistol and bandai are good with putting in accessories and such.
The reason why there are pieces that don't contribute to the build is because those parts runners are more than likely shared by multiple model kits. This is what bandai does. They recycle parts for their models. They do the same thing with gundam model kits. So those leftover parts are probably from or for something else.
this model/figure is awesome. i like the sh figuarts color. was contemplating coloring my 6inch black series. what paint or chroming technique do you recomend? ooooo shiney!!
You can still find all of these on Amazon at the moment. Some are from overseas sellers but usually free shipping. Takes a while but the price is very reasonable. Most of the kits actually become easier to find as time has went on except for the Shadow Stormtrooper. I'd like a few more of those but not paying those prices.
I happen to live in Japan but have never really took notice of these before which is why I asked. I plan to go to the store soon to see what is available. If they will be up for a while I will start price comparing them here. Though the domestic price seems a tad on the high side also.
+Me too (Jigzsaw) No no, no problem at all. I have a contact overseas that I usually get the initial release from, because I'm impatient and can't wait. But all the kits end up on Amazon eventually. That's where I always get my extra troopers or droids.

Ooo, hard one. I haven't done any ships but they do look cool. I think go for Phasma. Good representation of the character and the chrome is awesome. Vader is cool too but Phasma is cooler, at least the model. They both need cloth capes though.

I just got this figure as my first model kit, and am awaiting a tool kit similar to what you recommended to STEEVEWES a couple weeks ago to build it. Also have a fabric cape from rickhor49 on the way. Wish me luck!
I got it built yesterday and got the cape in today. It looks fantastic! All I need is to paint the gloves black and to somehow get the blaster from the Black Series one (for its more correct color and paint). Ideally I'd get the Figuarts Phasma blaster, but there's no way I'm paying $60+ for a figure just to get a blaster for another (for my purposes, superior) figure of the same character.
Something just looks odd or a bit off, still better than the Hasblow and Figufarts, though. I really like the figure itself but both capes look terrible, also her proportions look slightly off in certain poses it seems. I'm definitely intrigued to see the cape you bought from Ebay, hopefully it'l look better. Can't wait to see your review for the Mafex Phasma, that'l probably be the one i'll buy. Thanks for the reviews man, always helps me decide what figures to get.

Thanks for sharing this with us, I've been looking for this kit after getting the Boba Fett and Din Djarin. Unfortunately her portrayal in the last trilogy was such a let down. Awesome character with a lot of wasted potential :/
Great review as always! I agree figuarts phasma is lacking in height, but to me that figure LOOKS female, and flows very easily into female poses if you know what I mean. The model kit is restricted so I dont see how she can look as feminine, even with the slimmer build.

I gotta go with the model in the end because of size and how it fits into my overall display, but the Figuarts is probably staying on the desk as one of my few fiddle pieces.

Just wanted to show that with a little bit of creativity, the cloth cape can look pretty organic: www.dropbox.com/sh/evwhtcwu6g82826/AADrIhV0BfRDj3FOxg02Qhsaa?dl=0 just run a length of thin garden wire along the bottom of the cape. I used strong 3M double-sided tape to fold about 2mm of the cape's bottom over the wire to hide it. Then just bend the wire to simulate the fall and folds of the full-sized cape.

Black Series Phasma looks like garbage compared to this. I can't believe I was so gaga for the BS version. So glad I picked this kit up. The high chrome factor is really eye catching.
Not gonna lie, I kinda regret buying it. Putting it in any pose other than simply standing and holding the blaster just messes up the proportions and makes her look very odd, whereas the Figuarts looks way more natural. The sturdiness isn't up to par with the past model kits, I feel like this one pops apart way too often, forcing me to glue together the biceps, forearms, and calves. And the capes just plain suck. The Malaysian one looks okay, but not worth 23 bucks, especially since it isn't accurate to the texture or look of the real one.
+Samuntrus Yeah, both capes do suck. But I haven't had any problems with the sturdiness besides the calves sliding off when I over-extend the knees back. Weird. But then again, I didn't notice that the limb parts snapped together like the Sandtrooper kit.
She needs a black wash though. I built the C3p0 and thinned down some black semi gloss paint and then dabbed it into the details and crevices. It gives a warn look while bringing out the details making it look more real. The chrome on plastic is too bright and washes out the molded in detail. BTW Gwendaline Christy is tall for a woman.

Excellent video. While I like the Black Series Phasma I wish she was shiny, so I might pick this kit up.
Besides the shine I feel like the model is better proportioned and even scale with other 6 inch figures. Grab a cloth cape and boom, perfect.

I don't know if anyone else brought this up, but the shorter neck i think is for the plastic cape, and the longer neck is for the cloth

I quite like the chrome that way, use some black wash it might look even better. Also did any you guys get the FO stormtrooper kit? As am a little ticked off that it never came with a pistol and bandai are good with putting in accessories and such.
How would this look if you hit it with some flat clear to make it less shiny??

The reason why there are pieces that don't contribute to the build is because those parts runners are more than likely shared by multiple model kits. This is what bandai does. They recycle parts for their models. They do the same thing with gundam model kits. So those leftover parts are probably from or for something else.
this model/figure is awesome. i like the sh figuarts color. was contemplating coloring my 6inch black series. what paint or chroming technique do you recomend?

Most Testors paint will work. For chrome you can use Spazstix or Alclad, but those take a lot of prep work, fiddling, and an airbrush to use.
Found a badass nail polish looks good. Plus as it chips will look battle damaged
How long do these stay in the market? I am tempted to buy a squad of these including Phasma. Are the Storm Troopers still available?
You can still find all of these on Amazon at the moment. Some are from overseas sellers but usually free shipping. Takes a while but the price is very reasonable. Most of the kits actually become easier to find as time has went on except for the Shadow Stormtrooper. I'd like a few more of those but not paying those prices.
I happen to live in Japan but have never really took notice of these before which is why I asked. I plan to go to the store soon to see what is available. If they will be up for a while I will start price comparing them here. Though the domestic price seems a tad on the high side also.

+Me too (Jigzsaw) No no, no problem at all. I have a contact overseas that I usually get the initial release from, because I'm impatient and can't wait. But all the kits end up on Amazon eventually. That's where I always get my extra troopers or droids.

Ooo, hard one. I haven't done any ships but they do look cool. I think go for Phasma. Good representation of the character and the chrome is awesome. Vader is cool too but Phasma is cooler, at least the model. They both need cloth capes though.

The Gundam marker isn't going to be shiny, about like what the Black Series already has. A spray will work better but you'll have to do some masking.
I actually saw a cool chrome color nail polish lol. Looked good might get it.

I got it built yesterday and got the cape in today. It looks fantastic! All I need is to paint the gloves black and to somehow get the blaster from the Black Series one (for its more correct color and paint). Ideally I'd get the Figuarts Phasma blaster, but there's no way I'm paying $60+ for a figure just to get a blaster for another (for my purposes, superior) figure of the same character.
Something just looks odd or a bit off, still better than the Hasblow and Figufarts, though. I really like the figure itself but both capes look terrible, also her proportions look slightly off in certain poses it seems. I'm definitely intrigued to see the cape you bought from Ebay, hopefully it'l look better. Can't wait to see your review for the Mafex Phasma, that'l probably be the one i'll buy. Thanks for the reviews man, always helps me decide what figures to get.

Thanks for sharing this with us, I've been looking for this kit after getting the Boba Fett and Din Djarin. Unfortunately her portrayal in the last trilogy was such a let down. Awesome character with a lot of wasted potential :/
Great review as always! I agree figuarts phasma is lacking in height, but to me that figure LOOKS female, and flows very easily into female poses if you know what I mean. The model kit is restricted so I dont see how she can look as feminine, even with the slimmer build.
+Big Deano Plays I do know what you mean, and totally agree. The Figuarts is fluid and really just falls into female-like poses. I gotta go with the model in the end because of size and how it fits into my overall display, but the Figuarts is probably staying on the desk as one of my few fiddle pieces.
Hmm... not impressed by this Bandai kit, just my opinion. SH Figuarts looks to be the best as of right now. Until we see Mafex? Lower extremities being so restricted is not good and the capes are awful! Yuck. Nice Video as always Fwoosh!! Love these videos! Thank you!

Just wanted to show that with a little bit of creativity, the cloth cape can look pretty organic:

just run a length of thin garden wire along the bottom of the cape. I used strong 3M double-sided tape to fold about 2mm of the cape's bottom over the wire to hide it. Then just bend the wire to simulate the fall and folds of the full-sized cape.

Black Series Phasma looks like garbage compared to this. I can't believe I was so gaga for the BS version.
So glad I picked this kit up. The high chrome factor is really eye catching.

Simply use this paper-like cape as a pattern to make a proper one yourself out of a light fabric...
I think it would look better with scratches because it will look battle weared.

Not gonna lie, I kinda regret buying it. Putting it in any pose other than simply standing and holding the blaster just messes up the proportions and makes her look very odd, whereas the Figuarts looks way more natural. The sturdiness isn't up to par with the past model kits, I feel like this one pops apart way too often, forcing me to glue together the biceps, forearms, and calves. And the capes just plain suck. The Malaysian one looks okay, but not worth 23 bucks, especially since it isn't accurate to the texture or look of the real one.
+Samuntrus Yeah, both capes do suck. But I haven't had any problems with the sturdiness besides the calves sliding off when I over-extend the knees back. Weird. But then again, I didn't notice that the limb parts snapped together like the Sandtrooper kit.

She needs a black wash though. I built the C3p0 and thinned down some black semi gloss paint and then dabbed it into the details and crevices. It gives a warn look while bringing out the details making it look more real. The chrome on plastic is too bright and washes out the molded in detail. BTW Gwendaline Christy is tall for a woman.
+dcinhere Yeah, I ordered some Starship Filth to do some weathering , then Medicom announced the MAFEX version. If that one ends up being awesome I want to keep the model as a kind of prototype armor.

Typical bandai kits reuses sprues so there will often be extra bits left that are used in other kits
That and it seems they use the same joint system kit to kit so that sprue always seems to be about the same.
