I am also a HUGE Hedy fan. Beautiful, graceful, funny and smart. In the 40's she patented frequency hopping radio which is still used today and she gave it to the US War Department who didn't know what to do with it. She was one of the most versatile actresses of her time spanning an incredible range of characters and the Gelatin Silver Prints she did with George Hurrell are some the best shadow edge gradient photography on the planet. You get 4 stars for picking Hedy today!

This is a great walkthrough of a technical setup - thanks for sharing these ideas and approach. The White Mist filter was interesting because I recently photographed some portraits of young bride-to-be with the Hasselblad 120mm lens, which is super sharp. Add the 45 degree lighting and it rather emphasised some skin issues that were not so pleasing. With hingsight, I should have used the 80mm or 150mm but this white mist filter might have helped a lot. I do have a "beauty filter" (I think its called) but didn't think to use it.

That's such a great shot Lindsay! I really like the old Hollywood look. Thanks for the tutorial of how you achieved it. I did an old Hollywood shoot years ago with one of Tatyana's friends. Tatyana, of course, did the model's hair and makeup.

I also love Hedy Lamarr. Someone to look up to. I wanted to compare your shot to the one of her. Figured it would be hard to find. It was the very first photo that came up in a search of just her name!

Thank you, Lindsay. I wonder what your preferred method for B&W conversion is. I loved the lighting here, and also wonder if you thought of projecting the sun rays from behind on a diffusion BG for a more luminous effect.

Great work, Lindsay. Hedy didn’t become a star in the US until 1938. Ziegfeld died in 1932. Hedy never was in the Follies.
