  • Owning a Volkswagen Golf R32 is a tempting proposition, from its highly practical Mk5 Golf platform, to the lovely 3.2 V6 motor shared with the Audi TT, to its AWD and excellent handling, and all for surprisingly affordable prices compared to other hot hatches with similar sized engines...
But when it comes to actually buying and living with one, what is it really like? And what can you expect in the way of both good and bad points as a trade off to driving one of the largest capacity hatchbacks of the 2000's era?
Well, here are 12 of the best and worst things which I found about Mk5 Golf R32 ownership in particular from my time with one in 2022, to hopefully benefit those of you who are thinking of buying a used example of these lovely VR6 engined bruisers...

I owned one in Hong Kong for 2.5 years and I’ve just imported back to U.K. when I relocated back home, I loved it that much, I’ve owned lots of hot hatches before , R26 Megane which was amazing , but the R32 is different, it’s not fast but I would say quick motorway cruiser than a hot hatch , it feels weighty and when cornering hard it feels numb , but grips crazy I’ve got PS4 Michelins on it , I get on the motorway taking it really steady 65mph 38mpg, it’s got every extra on it including wingbacks , as for cup holders it does have , the little tray should have a metal divider and that becomes 2 cup holders, not a great idea but it’s there , mines standard and not one spec of rust and I will avoid british winter with it
