    I've said this in another video but I'll say it again: This IS the way to learn languages. Pretend you don't know any other languages -- babies don't have a first language to translate into either! What do you do when you don't understand something in a language you speak? You don't panic and say you "can't speak the language" or that you need subtitles/translations! You move on until you understand it or you investigate in the language. I'm so happy I got this recommended. I'm tired of learning from textbooks (they're all horrible) so I have not picked up any new languages, but I've been wanting to learn Chinese for a long time. I know nothing, which is the perfect place to start (apart from being able to read a lot because of Japanese). Thank you! :)

    • @chinesewei
      @chinesewei  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Having pinyin makes it easier for learners, especially for native speakers of a phonetic language. But this ease will only stay at the beginning stage, and it will become more and more difficult later on, which is why many people eventually give up learning Chinese. Because learning Chinese with pinyin is not in line with the natural rules of Chinese. The goal of Wei's course is to help learners learn Chinese the way native speakers do, so no pinyin subtitles can be given at the beginning stage.
      Pinyin is not the real Chinese language. In China people only use Pinyin when they type Chinese characters on their phones and computers, and when you start learning Chinese characters you will feel like you are learning two languages.
      My friend, now that you can listen and speak quite a bit of Chinese, it's time to consider moving away from pinyin.

      Most of the difficulties and bottlenecks in Chinese learning are caused by the wrong learning sequence. If you can get back to the normal track, the difficulties will disappear. Let me know if you encounter some difficulties in the future, maybe I can help you think about how to solve them.

Oddly enough it has already changed my earning skills a little bit in a few days. When I listen to other content it feels different and I don't feel the need to look at the subtitles as much. I don't understand much more but it seems more normal. Now I know that I have to get used to listen a lot without looking and the meaning, regularely. I get that that's the natural process. I trust my brain and now i trust you as well. 感谢您的帮助!

    Please. When can we start learning grammar?

    • @chinesewei
      @chinesewei  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you must learn grammar, it will have to be after you finish the intermediate content. Grammar is the basic logic of the language. When you finish the intermediate content, you already have a lot of Chinese language material in your head, and that's when you can understand the logic of Chinese faster and better. Actually, as native speakers, we do not learn grammar. I used to think that as a non-native speaker, learning Chinese grammar would be helpful for the exam. Later, I read about the HSK test and found that if the test taker has enough Chinese input, he or she can pass the test without learning grammar at all.
      I have a WeChat group of Chinese teachers who are all native speakers. We often discuss in it the grammar knowledge in some Chinese textbooks, and those grammars are really too difficult for native speakers. I don't know what the point of their existence is.

    I have a question, how would I know if my pronunciation is correct? I'm doing something I don't know if it's correct . I pronounce the word in google, and if it appears , I considered my pronunciation correct. So there is any other way to check my pronunciation????

    • @chinesewei
      @chinesewei  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are two ways. One is to find a Chinese person to listen to your pronunciation. The second is that you can use the Chinese language input method to input Chinese on your mobile phone. If there is no major problem with your pronunciation, the input method can accurately recognize what you say Chinese.
      But I don't think you need to do this. When my daughter was three years old, she had a lot of mispronunciation. I tried to correct her, but it didn't work. Later, after reading a lot of linguistic research materials, I discovered that my correction didn't work because she couldn't hear the difference between her own pronunciation and the correct pronunciation. As she got older and she listened to more Chinese, those mispronunciations of hers gradually disappeared. Instead of trying so hard to know whether your pronunciation is correct, you should focus on listening, your pronunciation will naturally improve, and the wrong pronunciation will gradually disappear.

    hmm... no matter how much I love the chinese language, chinese culture and chinese philosophy I think you are wrong on couple of points 2:50 word is not the smallest unit but the letter, whereas latin alphabet is composed of 26 letters, chinese radicals are composed of 214 symbols... not to mention the order in which they can form a character and the speed is not conclusive 1:19 "Chinese is spoken at half the speed of English" = 9 words, 中文的语速是英文的一半 = 11 characters... I'm sorry but I just can't pronounce 11 hanzi faster than 9 english words😁 anyway I will keep trying! nevertheless, good teaching lessons😉

    • @chinesewei
      @chinesewei  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Letters are the smallest unit, but letters have no meaning. The smallest unit with meaning is the word, isn't it? But every Chinese character has meanings, and even every component of a Chinese character has a complete meaning. So letters can only be equated to the strokes of Chinese characters.You can watch my newly released videos on 300 elemental Chinese characters. These videos have detailed explanations of the composition of Chinese characters.😀th-cam.com/play/PLVm_2mAUtlPGBASS0jsnimA_oE9uWTJ-9.html

      Agree, the letter has no meaning until it is combined into words. Hanzi as a single character already has a meaning. Thank you for your explanation Sir

    I teach Chinese in humorous way and with cute pictures.
    Chinese characters still retain their pictographic origins. Knowing what the characters look like originally can help remember them.
    I’ve spent about 100,000 hours studying English humor and Western culture, and many years studying Chinese culture and jokes. My native language is Chinese.
