  • I didn't think finding my colour palette was going to be so easy! For the longest time I have wanted to know which colours suit me best but was too intimidated by the process.
    You can subscribe here: bit.ly/3e9EP9g
    And you can follow me on Instagram here / alexandra__burnett
    As part of my Finding Your Style series, I wanted to once and for all identify what my season is, and what colours suit my skin tone the best.
    This is Episode 4 of my latest series "HOW TO FIND YOUR STYLE"
    Check out EP 1 • Watch if you're confus...
    Check out EP 2 • HOW TO FILTER THROUGH ...
    Check out EP 3 • Video
    The process was surprisingly easy. I bought this book that somehow Instagram recommended me and it guided me through the whole thing, step by step. The book is called "Colour me Beautiful" - I think it's old fashioned and something our moms would read in the 90's but in great at the same time!
    To do your colour analysis, all you need is some of your clothes, and yourself. I love that so much. It's all about you, your skin, your eyes, your hair and just by looking at you, you have so much information about what suits you best.
    I am going to leave the rest of the talking to todays' video, I hope it helps you out, do take time to find out your colours, I think everyone should know what they shine in and what makes them look glorious. Whilst there are people arguing that you can wear whatever you want, which is fair enough, something can be said about the right colours for you, because I have been there, I have worn a colour that was off, and no matter how beautiful my make up was, or how great my hair looked, something was off.
    Anyways, I am too old, and too broke to be investing my time and energy into clothes that sabotage me like a shady best friend which is why I took the time to find my colour palette.

    I'm not sure about you being a Summer, and here's why:
    I've looked through other videos of yours and I saw you wearing lots of black and high contrast items, like b/w stripes in one video, and you look fantastic in them; they make you glow. Only a winter glows in black; only a winter could pull off that much contrast. There's a true bright blue (typical winter, though could be in cool summer as well) sweater you're wearing, and it looks stunning on you. Even here, you're wearing a very dark sweater with a lighter color pant (=high contrast), and that suits you very well. If you were truly a summer, that would all be a little overwhelming.
    Now, on the other hand when you're wearing subdued, muted colors, you kind of disappear; I find them washing you out a bit, and I much prefer bright, cool, medium to high contrast on you.
    In the beginning, you show three of your favorite clothing items, which you like on yourself, and you categorize them all as cool and as summer colors. They're not, however. The light blue sweater is light, muted, and could be cool (hard to tell); the pink cardigan is a warm, soft pink (it has peachy-yellow undertones, rather than blue-ish undertones); and the dress is decidedly warm (it reads soft yellow-orange from afar, so definitely not cool) - maybe suited to a light spring.
    I really don't mean to spoil your favorite colors/clothes for you and hope you will just wear whatever you feel most comfortable in; but for me, when you take them away from your face and the dark sweater reappears, YOU reappear. I don't think soft, warm, or light suits you as well as bright, cool, and medium/deep.
    Here's the thing: that book you have is for sure the basis for modern color analysis, but it's definitely outdated as it was way too confining and inaccurate. These days, color analysis works with at least 12 seasons (three types per season, e.g. warm spring, true spring, clear/bright spring, and so on), but even more accurately with 16 seasons (four types per season, e.g. true autumn, soft autumn, vibrant autumn, blue autumn - which is often mistaken for winter. If you look at all those palettes, you'd see they're quite different, yet they're all in the Autumn spectrum. Just as one example).
    Lots more to say on the subject, and I hope I haven't spoiled your enthusiasm. Just, maybe hold off on changing the wardrobe and painting the walls until you're totally sure of your season, lol. It's just to say that color analysis is a tiny bit more complicated and needs a bit more training of the eye to discern warm/cool, bright/muted etc. Some people may find the three-pronged and simplified approach of Bright vs Soft (muted), Cool vs Warm, Light/Medium/Deep a little easier than trying to categorize themselves into one of four seasonal drawers straight off the bat.
    YIKES! Sorry, didn't mean to waffle on for so long. But maybe there's some info for consideration in there.
    PS: Like your channel, like your personality, and your content, and just subbed. :)

    Actually finding your colours is key. I do colour analysis on people and the impact on their faces is incredible. Not only the colours they let them look younger and healthier...but beware. Many people are mixed colourtypes. And there are way more than 4 different types nowadays ❤ I actually divide into more than 8....so my tip is: also consider your temper and job and which colours match these... Love, Sonja

    • @AlexandraBurnett

      Wow, interesting advice! What temper suits a summer season out of curiosity!?

    • @thejonasonstyle
      @thejonasonstyle ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Alexandra, I saw your question today..sorry for the late reply❤.ah, I see😊, you ask me which temper suits the summer season. Actually, this is a funny approach. 😊 So, from colour psychology view the summer colours are the soft version of the cool colour palette. So, when winter is very bold, harsh and expressive, summer is softer, calm, more introvert. Not so loud... But I would not go after that completely. I analysed many women already and- yes- there have been a lot softer summer girls but also an introvert spring girl, too. Who should just rock the stage😅😅
      A lot of people are mixed colourtypes, between warm and cool but also within. So, I really recommend colour analysis to finally know it. Another tip: colour palettes are nice but can also feel too perfectly aligned😅 so try out and stay curious...

      @@AlexandraBurnett the best way to confirm if your undertone is cool, neutral or warm is to use a silver&blue and gold/bronze fabric and compare it to your face. Do you look better in silver and dark blue, then you are cool.
      If Gold and bronze then you are warm. If it is difficult to see, then you are neutral. See how your skin reacts to the fabric. Does it turn yellow or pale etc.

      The idea that in the midst of brutally cold winters, you can always find a hiding place. A place to be protected from the elements, to find rest and to recover. I had my colours done two years ago. I thought I was cool toned, maybe a Winter, and found out that I’m a Blue Autumn (also known as Deep or Dark Autumn). I don’t have warmth in my hair and my skin is pinkish next to white but my undertone is warm. It’s transformational, I look so much healthier with the correct colours and I’ve had lots of compliments. A good way find out what season you are is to take lots of headshots with your hair tied back with as many different colours as you can find draped around your neck. Flick through the photos and look only at your face. You will glow in the right colours. Make note of which ones are best and go from there.
    The next step for me was then having my Kibbe Body Type done and that was transformational. What a difference! I’m plus size and found out I am a Dramatic Classic. Now I know what silhouettes best suit me.
    This year I’m fine tuning my wardrobe and trying my first capsule wardrobe next month. I’m also planning my sewing and knitting projects mindfully. It’s such fun being on a style journey. 😊

      Wow, I love that you took time to be intentional and get to know your body so well! I also want to spend time learning about my body shape and how to best dress for it. The book I mention in the video also talks about style personality which I haven’t fully read yet, but I must.
      I think at some point in the future I would love to see a professional about my colours, mainly to confirm if I am right about my discovery, but deep down inside I feel like I am right and after doing this exercise, it’s like a lot of puzzle pieces fell into place.
      Do you have any advice / resources for looking into body shape?
      Thank you for joining me on this journey! I feel like all of this research it’s only making me more smart about what to sew and what to wear! Xx

      For the Kibbe Body Typing I’d recommend watching videos from The Aligned Lover, Aly Art and Gabrielle Arruda. They are all excellent and have their own TH-cam channels. It’s quite a niche subject but I’ve got to say it’s been amazing for me, I never liked the fruit system but the Kibbe systems makes sense to me. It’s about working with your body and proportions rather than hiding them or covering things up. Nona from The Aligned Lover did my body type analysis and gave me loads of info and help.
      Daria Andronescu does something called the Wonder Wardrobe and her insights on colour, sustainability and capsule wardrobes are also very interesting. She also has TH-cam channel.
      I wish I had done this research years ago (colour analysis especially) as it’s been such an eye opener and given me so much confidence learning what is the most complimentary to me. It’s great to have a clear idea of what you want to wear and especially helps when you make your own clothes as you can chose the cut, style and colour of your own clothes. Rather than restricting me I’ve found it quite freeing. Everyone is different and you can of course wear whatever colours and styles you want but if it’s something you’re interested in it’s worth the effort.
      The only thing I’d advise is to take your time and enjoy the journey. Learn something new, reflect, implement it then move onto the next new dimension of your journey. Don’t rush, you are investing your time in yourself.
      I look forward to seeing where you go from here!xx

    This can fail easily if you don't own any of the colours that suit you best (I am a clear type, and owned 0 bold coloured items prior to analysis), or don't have a good eye for what actually looks good on you vs what you enjoy wearing because you like the colour by itself. Two pieces of advice: maybe you don't have clothes in the right colours but you might have other things - books, bed linens, whatever. Just put them near your face in natural lightning, and try analysing your "problem areas" - for instance, do you have a double ching, suns spots, eye bags, yellowish teeth? Find an "imperfection" and see if a colour makes it more or less noticeable. Don't look at the colour, look at the imperfection while you have the colour near your face. That helps even if you don't have a good eye for colour. For example, light, cold tones makes my jaw look less defined, my teeth looks to yellower and my overall complexion grayer. With deep, neutral-warmish tones all of these imperfections disappear or are at least less evident. If you have time, please let me know if this advice helped (I'm trying to build my own method here).

    I am confused about my colors, especially after I discovered the 12 season color theory, wich is an even more in depth analysis. My features are dark red hair, rosy skin, green-brown eyes....some freckles. I feel good in cooler colors. Maybe a bright spring? Autumn ? Winter? Perhaps someone has the same features and already knows her color type?
    Anyway, amazing videos, Alexandra:) Has it happens, I am trying to find my style at the same time as you are. Keep going!

    • @AlexandraBurnett
      @AlexandraBurnett  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the 12 colours intimidated me so I stuck to the basics for now. What shade are your freckles? The book mentioned that if freckles are golden brown you’re more likely a warm season, if they are taupe / Ash brown you’re more likely a cold season. Also what colour are the veins on your wrist? Blue - cold season and green - warm season.
      It sounds to me that you have a lot of contrast between your hair and your skin so maybe a high contrast season like winter might be it if you’re cool skin? Just some thoughts.
      All the best finding your style / I feel like it’s a journey rather than a destination, so now that I have laid down some ground rules I am gonna focus on experimenting and having some intentional fun with clothes!!! Xxx

      If you are a redhead, you can only be a warm season. Based on your description I’d say spring! The best way to tell is to drape different colors from the palette below your neck and see how they affect your face. It should be pretty clear which colors work and which don’t!

    Hi. The YT algorithm brought me here. I think you're a winter - either a true or dark winter. Black (your sweater) looks good on you. If you're a summer, black will wash you out (gray is better). To find out between true or dark winter: drape yourself in navy blue vs black. TW = better in navy, DW = better in black. I think your coloring is similar to Anne Hathaway, who is often typed as a DW. The light blue cloth looked good on you (since it was cool toned) but it didn't add to your vibrancy - too pale for you. I think royal or sapphire blue would look better on you. For me, knowing your color season helps in shopping - I'm a TA/ DA mix.

    I hope you don't mind me saying but you look like a Deep Winter, which isn't in that book as far as I know. I believe they've expanded their system since that was printed. You look too high contrast for a summer and you've got dark hair and eyes so likely a deep season. Summer is a mid tone season. Have you tried on some deep winter colours? You're even wearing a winter jumper. Also, that book only had colours for a few of the seasons. I'm a deep Autumn which is the sister season to deep winter and they're both classed as a transition season. Check out the 16 season system, you may find it gives a bit more clarity. My skin is as pale as yours, and my hair and eyes as dark, so it took me a long while to finally realise I was an Autumn because the autumns shown in that book are far too warm for me but the 16 season system made it much easier to pin down my real season. I suspect you can wear some of those lighter cool tones but you probably look even more vibrant in a deeper palette. Anyhow, best of luck with it.

    • @AlexandraBurnett
      @AlexandraBurnett  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for such a lovely and thoughtful comment. Yes I think by the sounds of it I need to research more into this and figure it out. Deep winter sounds so scary to me because I have never been attracted to strong colours, so maybe that’s why I leaned more into summer colours. 🥳😅

    • @ConnieWobbles
      @ConnieWobbles ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AlexandraBurnett well it's so difficult to really see what suits you from a tiny screen and no comparison colours. Even without knowing your undertone temperature, you have high contrast colouring(deep eyes and hair, fair skin) so it's more likely you're a deep season. Both deep seasons are closer to neutral in temperature than most other seasons, with Soft seasons being the exception. So the warm crosses into the cool which means you can wear some autumn and some winter colours such as a deep red violet or maybe pine green. The mauves and red violets also appear in the summer palette, especially the Soft seasons which are also muted. So it can make you think you're a cool season and vice versa, when in reality you're just wearing a neutral colour so to speak. Also, if you're not drawn to strong colours, and you don't look amazing in black and pure white, my guess is you might have a 'soft' or 'muted' undertone. Compare how you look in white vs.cream. Then you'll know if you're cool or warm. Autumn is a muted season. It has richness, whereas Winters have vibrant colour. Deep winter have a deep cool palette with a pinch of warmth added. Also because you are so fair you probably don't look good in yellow and orange, because on a colour wheel you may be closer to neutral. But don't be fooled by that word, just because you're close to neutral it doesn't mean you are neutral. Most people lean slightly cool or slightly warm. Don't expect to be able to wear all the colours in your season. I'd advise you to separate your wardrobe into warm and cool and make some comparisons. Go to a department store and try on some colours from the seasons in question and see how you look. Natalie Portman and Kiera Knightly are Deep Autumn. But Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway are Deep Winter. Have a look at the temperature of what they wear to try and train your eye. And if all else fails check out the summers. But my money is on a deep season. Oh I came back with a quick edit to say your thumbnail looks warm! Ok you might have fake tan and the wrong hair colour and it's a tiny pic, but it seems you've a preference for warmer vibes there. I'm interested to see what season you settle on after more experimenting.

    • @AlexandraBurnett
      @AlexandraBurnett  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ConnieWobbles This is so insightful. Funny you should mention Keira Knightly because I looked to see what season she was. And yesterday I tried different coloured tops, to train my eye around what might suit me more. I will for sure continue to explore and research, and I might even have a professional colour analysis done, once I have the budget for it, because it's making me restless at this point, it feels like one of those things that *I NEED TO KNOW*. I think I look tanned because I wear a warm base foundation and a warm based bronzer, so that might be why. Without make up, it's quite neutral, cold I would say. I don't tan easily, if anything I burn first and then that burn turns into somewhat of a tan. I also don't blush at all, apparently typical of a colder skin tone. Hmmm, I am swimming in a bigger pond than I first thought! Thank you for leaving this comment, I will reference to it and do more research around neutral tones, as I feel like maybe I am more a neutral than I initially thought.

    But find the color you really really love (mines a dusty darkish purple) and paint a living room feature wall with it. Get some silver wall candle scones and purple like great in candlelight...
    My bedding is all within my season. My husband is a winter but he "doesn't know what he doesn't know"... And who cares. He seems okay with it all.
    Everything I buy for my world be it clothes or everything else with a color is with my season since I was trained in color draping in /85. My kids were raised in their seasons. Their rooms and bedding etc way in their season. It's really important in their mental health in convinced. They're all adults now with their own kids and they follow this principle also.

      Yes I thought I was a winter but no waaay! Because the strong punchy colours of winter wear me rather than me wearing them. That’s why I debated so long between summer and winter. But in the end, thanks to the book, I concluded I fit more into the summer category. Brunettes can be summers.
      I could *never* be an autumn because orange on me just does not work, I may as well wear puke coloured clothes at this point.
      So I stick to summer I am afraid, I am willing to be proven wrong, but I just don’t think I am a winter or an autumn. If anything the only thing I might be swayed by is a spring, but again, warm colours don’t look good on me.
