- The Wisconsin teacher accused of making out with an 11-year-old elementary school student has requested to have her charges dismissed. Madison Bergmann, a former fifth-grade teacher, allegedly sexually assaulted the young boy just weeks before her wedding. Shocking text messages between Bergmann and the alleged victim were presented in court, which the judge used to shut down the defense’s request. Law&Crime’s Elizabeth Millner has the details.

I'm convinced teachers need a psych evaluation before they're hired
I agree. As part of the psych evaluation, it needs to include scenarios based off real cases of child harm but leaving open space for the prospective teacher to write their answer as to how they would respond and act for that given situation. This allows us to "see inside the mind" of the teacher so to speak. Seriously, the ethics, personal boundaries of people and code of conduct is arguably more important than the subject matters the teachers are going to teach like geography and physics because these subjects seem less important when YOU are the one that is hurt or dead.

@@abelis644I agree. The fact we don’t check politicians mental stability, especially presidential candidates who will get access to nuclear weapons. That blows my mind.
But we take personality quizzes on so many job applications now, even entry level jobs like Target. People who are put in positions of power, especially over children, like a teacher should need mental health evals every few years or something. Not just to prevent these kind of events but stress and anxiety too. With school pew pews happening now teachers aren’t in the same mental state they were decades ago. I would be interested to see why the increase in female defendants too. Why are so many cases coming up? What has changed in them or society that’s led to this happening. We won’t ever learn that if we don’t do mental evals and monitor people in these positions. If we don’t learn why/how then we can’t protect our kids as well and their protection is top priority.

as a psychology major focusing on child psych, i hope the parents SWIFTLY put him in therapy. They can't just rely on their parenting to guide him through this time, it wont be enough. This is insanely traumatic and the child doesn't even know, he probably blames himself for "getting caught", and all the chaos that ensued after, so when he gets older this will manifest into very disturbing things if it is not treated properly. I hope the kid and parents are going to be okay soon.
