Out of all the videos explaining this, this is the only one that worked. Thanks.

    also how would you solve a equation that's setup as x + 10y = 3
    4x + 5y = 5

multiply the bottom equation by (-2), then it will be -8x - 10y = -10. then, add both the equations, and you get -7x = 7. divide both sides by -7, and x = -1. then plug the x in either equation. let's do x + 10y = 3. plugging it in: -1 + 10y = 3. subtract -1 from 3, which is 2. next, it will be 10y = 2. divide both sides by 10, and you get y to equal 5. i suck at elimination, and explaining, but hopes this helps.

On the second wxample why did you multiply the other one by 3?

      Hi John,
In order to eliminate the x variable, both coefficients have to be the same. The only way to get a common multiple (6) is to multiply the equations by different numbers (2 and 3). This is very similar to finding a common denominator for fractions. I hope that helps!

      6 - (-8) the -(-) will become plus so 6+8 = 14
