Khulumbai 🙏 I had an opportunity to listen to Mr. Santa Lal Meche in one of the videos uploaded. In his speech he mentioned the need to conserve the Meche culture and the language. Although most of his speech was in Nepali, he did speak in the Meche language towards the end and I could understand him just like I would when my relatives spoke in the Bodo language. As a person who understands Nepali and speak Nepali fairly well, I noticed a few Nepali substitute words were widely used. Eg. Tara meaning but in English and the Bodo word for it is "nathai". That's a natural process of an enrichment of a language through borrowed words. The Meche youngsters have a great responsibility in preserving their culture and most important of all, their language. At a time when their population is dwindling in Nepal, I believe it's almost a religion for every Meche youngster to work and contribute to its conservation. The Parsis in India are a very small community and yet they have preserved their identity to this day. So, I believe the Meches can do the same. Stay in touch with your cousins, the Bodos of Assam and ensure you watch and explore creative contents like movies and music videos posted on TH-cam in the language. I also request the Meches to create and upload similar content in the Meche language. This is one small gesture and a contribution towards conserving your language! The most practical thing to do for each Meche is to bring up a generation who will be good Nepali citizens, speak good Nepali and excellent Meche language at the same time!
Nayan Lahary i saw an interview of a elderly meche man in one of the vdos of Meche ppl from Nepal,One of the main reason to loosing their language n culture is due to intercaste marriage.Intercaste marriage is very common now in Nepal n lots of other ethnic ppl in Nepal also have similar cases of loosing their language n culture.
