    My dad had 'Cross Purposes' , 'Headless Cross' & the compilation album 'The Sabbath Stones'
    I gew up listening to these in the 90's and they shaped me into the musician I am now.
    Cross Purposes was always my favourite, however The Sabbath Stones had 3 songs from Tyr and I loved each one of them.
    I later discovered the stuff with Ozzy, but that was never my cup of tea, especially when you grew up listening to a singer like Tony Martin.

    A great retrospective. Tony Martin also did some shows with Cozy Powell in Germany around the time of his solo album - there was a bootleg called "Tony Martin and Friends" which was taken from one of these shows, but it wasn't actually a Tony Martin solo project - rather it was a continuation of Cozy Powell's Hammer.
    Another trivia point is that the inner sleeve art for Tyr was inspired by the Roskilde Stone in Sweden - (also on the label of the vinyl and on cd releases).
    The runes on the front cover that make up the album name, are from the Elder Futhark alphabet and are Tyr (the T rune), which signifies victory and was associated with Tyr's blessing in battle (the rune is also called Tiwaz, another name for Tyr), the Y rune is called Algiz and is a protective rune (also associated with elks), and the R rune is Raido - which meant ride or journey - often associated with horses and with Thor, due to his fondness for chariots.

    A friend and I decided to go see this tour, at Wolves Civic, back in the day when you could buy tickets at the venue on the night. My mate didn't show. Waiting outside near me, however, was our local radio rock DJ. He had two complimentary tix, but whoever he had invited didn't show. So he gave me one of the tickets and in I went. The sixth and last time I saw Cozy play, having seen him with Rainbow, MSG and Whitesnake. I have a good quality boot of the night, a great show..such a shame this line up didn't have the success it deserved.

    When Tony Martin was on, he was fuggin incredible. Too bad he often struggled live recreating what he laid down in the studio. Each time I saw Sabbath in LA during his tenure he was really good, but not as good as he is on these Swedish show clips. I'm looking forward to the reissues!

    Headless Cross and TYR are the two best albums of the Tony Martin era of Sabbath. Eternal Idol was an album written for Gillen and I will always feel that way. Cross Purposes was a strange one and I am waiting for 31MAY2024 to listen to Forbidden. I have heard much negative reviews upon that last album of the Martin era and am kinda worried about listening to it until I hear what Iommi intended it to sound as...too bad Cozy isn't around to assist him in that endeavor.

      I used to think that about Cozy Powell. A powerhouse but quite simple and solid. However, quite recently I heard some other stuff that Cozy did (at this moment I cannot remember what it was) and was gobsmacked when I heard it was him playing. He was much more technical and gifted than I realised. Wish I could remember what it was I heard. Made me look at Cozy in a different way drum wise. Having said that he has played on some of my favourite albums, by Rainbow and Schenker to mention just 2. His early single, Na Na Na with "Hammer" is one of my favourite singles of the 70's RIP Cozy

      @DarksaberForce 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The Osbournes locked Tony down with the Sabbath name after filing a lawsuit against Iommi years ago. That's why when they reformed with Dio they couldn't call themselves 'Black Sabbath' but 'Heaven and Hell' instead. The same reason remixing Tony Martin's album has become such a chore.

    21:47 I don't agree with that guy, who claims Tyr had just a couple of good songs, "Anno Mundi" and "Sabbath stones". There's also "The law maker" and there's "Jerusalem", "Valhalla" and "Feels good to me" which are a bit soft but all are absolutely fantastic, beautiful songs. Out of the 8 songs only the last song is weak. Tyr is a masterpiece.
