Blackened is one of my favorite gifts to give to co-workers, friends and family. I print out the music list for the batch number when I gift it. Super solid whiskey and so far everyone has thoroughly enjoyed it.
Seems a bit unfair to put the Proper 12 in with bourbon so I did my own blind with it . I put it up against a bog water and a mug of diesel and it just finished just outside the top 3 so it just goes to show 🤷🏻♂️

Ngl, Brother’s Bond is surprisingly good and pleasant. I typically steer clear of celebrity alcohol brands, but the wife’s a huge Vampire Diaries fan and asked me to pick one up out of curiosity. I was not expecting it to be as fun to drink as it is. It’s not complex, but I completely agree that for a newer whiskey drinker it’s a perfect introduction and would be great as a base for cocktails. Surprisingly quality for me!
I gotta try that one. I have tried The Rock Tequila Teremana, Ryan Reynold's Aviation Gin, and even the limited edition Game of Throne scotch Whisky. All quite good.
I had the same experience. My wife wanted the bottle just for the sole purpose of having something from Vampire Diaries. I tried it with hesitation but was pleasantly surprised. It's mild, smooth and is good in any application whether it's drank straight, on the rocks, or mixed.
I'm not an overly experienced bourbon drinker, but I've gone through several bottles of Longbranch over the last couple years. Found it to be a great, easy drinking bourbon that doesn't break the wallet.
I don’t mind Bobs Heavens Door bourbon. Tried their double cask and cask strength and it wasn’t terrible. Wild Turkey long branch isn’t bad either. But Proper 12 is dog shit.
Well yeah it kind of is...first time I opened and poured P12 I immediately saw what was wrong...the nose and flavor were totally mismatched...that said I HAVE tasted far worse whiskies so there was, I think, a bit of celebrity whiskey hate going on with how people were slamming it. curious about the Dylan whiskey though.

"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" was written by Bob Dylan for the soundtrack to the 1973 film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Celebrity Whiskey can be good but usually cost a premium just for the name attached. Heard good things about Three Chord Bourbon by Pat Benatar's husband/guitarist Neil Gerardo.
Not a big fan of celebrity whiskeys (as if they care what I think) because, like you say, they're all multi-millionaires putting their names on bourbons that a lot of us can't really afford. Went to a Three Chord Bourbon tasting that my bar put on right before Covid. Met the "master distiller" only to find out that the bourbon is made by MGP and bottled in Michigan. Like the Metallica whiskey, they allegedly play music (put sound waves through the barrels) to allow the liquid to touch more of the wood.....super gimmicky. If I'm not mistaken the Bob Dylan bourbon is also a product of MGP. If the bottle doesn't say "distilled by" whoever is claiming to make the whiskey, it's probably a recipe someone got from MGP and slapped their name on it to make a few bucks and pretend to be a whiskey aficionado. A real distiller will have on their product's bottle "Distilled and bottled by (distillery) and the state in which is was distilled. I hate to admit it, but the Longbranch is pretty good because it is 6-8 year old Wild Turkey bourbon which has been filtered through mesquite charcoal (the McConaughy) influence. But it can still be called Kentucky Straight Bourbon because the mesquite wasn't part of the original distilling process. The bourbon had already been made. Sorry to bore everyone.

Recently tried Longbranch and really enjoyed it. Proper 12 was awful. It's been a couple years, but I remember it having a very metallic and bitter taste. And not bitter like an IPA bitter, but like chemically bitter.
I'm trying my hardest to get a bottle of Blackened (which I have had and loved), Blackened Cask Strength, Blackened Rye The Lightning, and Blackened Willett Collab. I love Metallica, Whiskey, and especially rye whiskey, so I want to do a big taste test with my friends.
My GF is in love with the guys who made Brothers Bond so she added a bottle to my collection. I did a little research and they purposely wanted to have a very low proof whiskey because they wanted their fans to enjoy it as well. And since their alcohol legal fan base are 21-23yr old women that probably never drank whiskey, they wanted something easy for them to enjoy. They're in the works on a 10, 12 and 15yr and a cask strength.. if I recall correctly
FYI Brothers Bond mashbill is actually a four grain. The proportions are believed to be 65% corn, 22% rye, 7% Wheat, and 6% malted barley. MGP sourced. Loved the video, keep it up!

Wild Turkey Longbranch is the one that got me hooked. I can't ever hate on this. This is where I would start any beginner. Yes, im biased, but I tasted Blantons, Woodford Double Oaked, and 1792 SB. I was unimpressed with them all until I tasted WTLB. 🥃

@@RYANS2394 its also called Proper 12. McGregor said it was named after Dublin 12, but the real reason is a con. Usually the number on a whiskey refers to the age. 12 year old whiskey is usually expensive. This is not okay, and will probably be illegal soon.
@@RYANS2394 Proper 12 is just left over Bushmills slops. If you want something similar but nicer (and cheaper) just get a bottle of Bushmills Original, or Black Bush for around the same price as proper 12.
dude i was checking out Blackened and it retails in the UK for around 200 to 250 pounds not sure what the exchange rate currently is but...... wow thats quite alot of mark up on import. im gunna try the Heavens Door instead currently around 70 pounds a bottle.

Im glad you reviewed brothers bond. Its my solid daily pour that i sip on without thinking too much. Its actually a 4grain bourbon, and they are coming out with a cask strength later this year. The two guy love bourbon and blended it themselves to fall under a brown-foreman profile. Great video🥃
My taste buds are more in line with Allison's, which is reasonable since I'm a woman, albeit probably 40 years older. I've never tried Blackened, Heaven's Door or Longbranch but I'm going out now and getting all three. Great video. I'm a new subscriber but I've seen enough to know you're a man who's worth listening to. I learn something valuable from every video I've seen on here and I thank you for that.

As someone who has bought several bottles of Metallica’s Blackened Whiskey it is very smooth. And what’s cooler about a whiskey that while it ages in a barrel one of the Metallica albums is played through the barrel. I have almost all of the years batches. Blackened is definitely worth a try. I just can’t wait til it actually comes to Oklahoma as right now I have to order it online with one that is willing to ship to me.
I have been enjoying a Three Chord (Neil Geraldo) 116.6 proof barrel pick 35% honey/65% toasted and while the standard Three Chord may not be the most talked about, this particular barrel pick is very tasty.
I feel like it would be good to throw in a regular whiskey too, just to see where it lands. Like a wild turkey 101 or something that you are familiar with, but keep it blind as well. That would be really interesting on these blind experimental episodes!

Okay, well I guess I'm gonna have to try Blackened now. The only one of those I've tried is Proper No. 12. I found it was similar to Jameson but slightly more peppery. Not something I'd drink neat, but that black pepper taste comes out a little when mixed with coke, which is kinda interesting.
I’m watching this video while sipping Blackened. Great whiskey. I also like proper twelve as my go to. That said you can taste why blackened is about 20 bucks more a bottle. Worth it though
I just found this channel 30 minutes ago. I was surprised you didn't like McGregor's. I haven't had it myself but i have had Bushmill's and as far as the cheap Irish Whiskeys go, they're one of the best IMO. I'm a Scotch guy and haven't really gotten into American Whiskeys so hopefully i can find some good stuff on this channel. Great video BTW!
Proper Twelve uses Bushmills variant whiskey stock which is primarily all under 4 years old, and it would not surprise me to find out that the bottles they sell could be well under 3 years old, because they are trying to sell a ton of the stuff all over the place. The flavor profile is too inconsistent which means going from one bottle to the next will not guarantee you get the the same tastes, because the age is too young and you are basically selecting whiskey as if it was a variant Bushmills whiskey. There are a lot of the bottles on sale at my local grocery. I think it will sell well when they start discounting the stuff below 20 bucks no matter how it tastes, but at the over 25 dollar level the Jameson Cold Brew beats it easily in sales.
The Slipknot No. 9 whiskeys are really good! A bit sweeter than other whiskeys which I like. They’re a bit expensive and really difficult to get, at least here in Massachusetts.
Once again you two knocked it out of the entertainment park. I find that when I watch one of these I am sitting here unconsciously grinning from ear to ear. When you guys did the long cigar ash video, my cheeks actually hurt afterwards. This one was no less enjoyable, but I caught myself doing it halfway through and let my face relax, lol. I got a bottle of Dylan's Heaven's Door Cask Strength this past xmas. 122.8 proof. High Calibur and high quality! And yes Knocking on Heaven's Door is pure Dylan from the Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid soundtrack. Tho I remember the Guns and Roses cover well too.
Great video! Long branch is currently one of my favorite bourbons, I love the smokiness and will always keep a bottle. Brothers Bond is surprisingly good, another keeper. I will be trying Blackened next, not even going to bother with Proper 12 lol.
Also, Bradshaw won Super Bowls with the Steelers for the 1974, 75, 78, and 79 seasons, but won the Super Bowl MVP for the 78 and 79 seasons also, so that's probebly why those years are there.

Longbranch is a solid bourbon. No way Eddie Russell and Wild Turkey is going to let something mediocre go out. This is one I give to friends new to bourbon and it never disappoints.

If you haven't spent time with Irish whisky I would agree that Proper 12 is a tough taste to become comfortable with. However I believe most Irish is an acquired taste. Especially if you have had numerous small batch types of Irish.
Haven't had the Cask strength Blackened yet, jumped to the Wes Henderson X bottle instead. Really good tasting bottle. The Bradshaw is another good bottle. Agree with the Proper 12. Not terrible but not sure I'd ever buy it. Just to light for my tastes.
There is a Jefferson’s bourbon that is aged in barrels at sea (in boats). And I thought it was gimmicky, but I think it taste amazing. I think there is something to splashing/moving around the spirit within the barrel!

I don't think proper no 12 should've been in this, it might be just me but I get a very different taste when I try Irish whiskey in general. For what it's worth I'm not a fan of proper no 12 either lol but I'm not much of an Irish whiskey fan. My personal favorite is longbranch followed closely by heaven's door single barrel, I haven't tried blackened or the double barrel heaven's door, but now I need to try them.

Try Redbreast 12, for a proper Irish whiskey.

As someone who has bought several bottles of Metallica’s Blackened Whiskey it is very smooth. And what’s cooler about a whiskey that while it ages in a barrel one of the Metallica albums is played through the barrel. I have almost all of the years batches. Blackened is definitely worth a try. I just can’t wait til it actually comes to Oklahoma as right now I have to order it online with one that is willing to ship to me.
Haven't had any of those whiskeys yet but I'll smoke a RP Decade with ya for sure while tasting. Great videos ya all!

I have been enjoying a Three Chord (Neil Geraldo) 116.6 proof barrel pick 35% honey/65% toasted and while the standard Three Chord may not be the most talked about, this particular barrel pick is very tasty.
I feel like it would be good to throw in a regular whiskey too, just to see where it lands. Like a wild turkey 101 or something that you are familiar with, but keep it blind as well. That would be really interesting on these blind experimental episodes!

I've liked Blackened enough that I try to keep it around all the time, but I'm going to try out Bradshaw and Brothers Bond based on this.

Okay, well I guess I'm gonna have to try Blackened now. The only one of those I've tried is Proper No. 12. I found it was similar to Jameson but slightly more peppery. Not something I'd drink neat, but that black pepper taste comes out a little when mixed with coke, which is kinda interesting.

I’m watching this video while sipping Blackened. Great whiskey. I also like proper twelve as my go to. That said you can taste why blackened is about 20 bucks more a bottle. Worth it though

I just found this channel 30 minutes ago. I was surprised you didn't like McGregor's. I haven't had it myself but i have had Bushmill's and as far as the cheap Irish Whiskeys go, they're one of the best IMO. I'm a Scotch guy and haven't really gotten into American Whiskeys so hopefully i can find some good stuff on this channel. Great video BTW!
Proper Twelve uses Bushmills variant whiskey stock which is primarily all under 4 years old, and it would not surprise me to find out that the bottles they sell could be well under 3 years old, because they are trying to sell a ton of the stuff all over the place. The flavor profile is too inconsistent which means going from one bottle to the next will not guarantee you get the the same tastes, because the age is too young and you are basically selecting whiskey as if it was a variant Bushmills whiskey. There are a lot of the bottles on sale at my local grocery. I think it will sell well when they start discounting the stuff below 20 bucks no matter how it tastes, but at the over 25 dollar level the Jameson Cold Brew beats it easily in sales.
The Slipknot No. 9 whiskeys are really good! A bit sweeter than other whiskeys which I like. They’re a bit expensive and really difficult to get, at least here in Massachusetts.
Once again you two knocked it out of the entertainment park. I find that when I watch one of these I am sitting here unconsciously grinning from ear to ear. When you guys did the long cigar ash video, my cheeks actually hurt afterwards. This one was no less enjoyable, but I caught myself doing it halfway through and let my face relax, lol. I got a bottle of Dylan's Heaven's Door Cask Strength this past xmas. 122.8 proof. High Calibur and high quality! And yes Knocking on Heaven's Door is pure Dylan from the Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid soundtrack. Tho I remember the Guns and Roses cover well too.
Great video! Long branch is currently one of my favorite bourbons, I love the smokiness and will always keep a bottle. Brothers Bond is surprisingly good, another keeper. I will be trying Blackened next, not even going to bother with Proper 12 lol.
Yep, Bob Dylan wrote Knockin' On Heaven's Door, and like many Dylan songs, the covers wind up getting more well known these days.
Also, Bradshaw won Super Bowls with the Steelers for the 1974, 75, 78, and 79 seasons, but won the Super Bowl MVP for the 78 and 79 seasons also, so that's probebly why those years are there.

Longbranch is a solid bourbon. No way Eddie Russell and Wild Turkey is going to let something mediocre go out. This is one I give to friends new to bourbon and it never disappoints.
I'm really curious what you would think of the new Slipknot #9 whiskey. The reviews were pretty good from non fan sources but you never know!

I'm a fan of the regular Blackened but the cask strength is where it's at.

If you haven't spent time with Irish whisky I would agree that Proper 12 is a tough taste to become comfortable with. However I believe most Irish is an acquired taste. Especially if you have had numerous small batch types of Irish.
Longbranch is my new favorite easy drinking bourbon! Probably have been through 5 bottles the last few months.
Haven't had the Cask strength Blackened yet, jumped to the Wes Henderson X bottle instead. Really good tasting bottle. The Bradshaw is another good bottle. Agree with the Proper 12. Not terrible but not sure I'd ever buy it. Just to light for my tastes.

There is a Jefferson’s bourbon that is aged in barrels at sea (in boats). And I thought it was gimmicky, but I think it taste amazing. I think there is something to splashing/moving around the spirit within the barrel!

It's interesting how USA lives in its own universe. I have never heard of these whiskeys, being a single scotch man only, but great video.

I don't think proper no 12 should've been in this, it might be just me but I get a very different taste when I try Irish whiskey in general. For what it's worth I'm not a fan of proper no 12 either lol but I'm not much of an Irish whiskey fan.
My personal favorite is longbranch followed closely by heaven's door single barrel, I haven't tried blackened or the double barrel heaven's door, but now I need to try them.
