Really enjoyable run here. Dude not only thinks fast and moves even faster through 100% of this tough-ass game, he somehow also manages to deliver a calm, coherent, and entertaining commentary that any runner should be proud of, and all of the above with so little help from anybody else in the room. Thumbs up.
Nothing adds charm to a GDQ stream like a runner and announcer with chemistry. Honestly, my favorite part of this run was how Trihex and Golden played off each other, I actually found myself looking forward to the donations lol
this was the first speedrun I ever watched, and to this day it remains in my top five. it's one of the most honest runs I've ever watched, and the 2015 humor is just so perfect.
not trying to hate..but i wish carl could have been on the couch; or someone who could explain the game more in-depth. this is my favorite game to watch speedrun and i feel like so much of the cool shit and mechanics wasn't talked about. enemy boosting wasn't even brought up until like world three. trihex did all the talking and he's the one trying to speedrun an input heavy game and you can tell it threw him off several times. great run nonetheless trihex.
Twelve years of perfecting this game leaves a prodigy. Takes me like ten hours to beat it on a good day.. Also wanted to give props to the developers on an amazing game that seems timeless. Very well put together.
I really, really, really like Super Mario World. But sorry, people. Yoshi's Island is the best 2D-platformer ever made. And since nobody makes games like this anymore, it's also probably the best of all time.
Wow first time watching trihex and i really like him as a speedrunner!!!! Chill, entertaining, and skilled! I just wish the couch was more supportive or talkative. Also yoshis island is amazing. Nostalgia :)
Dude right? I just came from the overview of this run and he's so people oriented. Love it. I wanna be his bestfriend. I hope he beats Caleb at armwrestling one day
I feel pretty bad for Trihex. Not only did he have the pressure of being the first run and setting the tone, there were a lot of technical issues and he had to keep trying to keep things interesting with commentary (aka, kinda bad couch) and his gameplay suffered. Still an awesome Yoshi's Island run either way. :)
+jbgainesii Oh, I'm not saying he didn't succeed in keeping things interesting (such dank shirts) and I seriously give him mad props that he did. I was just saying that there was a lot of pressure there.
+Thecrispy22 i really dont think that your commentary was as bad as everyone is saying. you gave pretty on-par commentary for gdq's. its just that trihex is such an entertainer that going between his style of commentary and anyone else will make almost anyone look bad.
1:25:54 If you shoot the boss preemptively, there is an easter egg that says "チクショ", which can be written as 畜生 in Kanji. It literally means "livestock" and is a derogative term for a person.
This was the first run of GDQ I ever saw, and I actually saw most of it live. I never knew then that I'd lose so many hours watching people break video games...
Well, yk, you could also play it on an emulator or SNES Classic or something - also this is a _really_ fast speedrun for this game - it probably took me 3hrs just to beat the first two worlds.
Multiple times I hear them talk about the "first morph in the game" (both at the Mole Tank in 1-6 and at the train in 2-3 when TriHex forgot about the Mole Tank), and this leaves me wondering about something. Is the Helicopter transformation in 1-2 not in the Japanese version or something? I know they skip it, but it seems like the kind of thing they should know about...
Can someone explain why he doesn't go to the goal straight away? at every level, when he gets to the end, he wastes some time going backwards before finishing the level.
python alert He explained at some point in the run that bonus room chance is tied to Yoshi's speed on most of the levels. Going into the goal at top speed increases the chances of getting a bonus stage, which, in a speedrun, is a bad thing. He goes backwards sometimes so as to go into thr goal post at a slower soeed.
nobody appreciated his joke, "we're really there, this is 20XX, got the speedrunning towel and whatnot..." I thought it was prety hilarious. Like, look how far we've come!
I think that cool that companies like alien ware and capcom helping out respect guys and to all of agdq sgdq all the supporters donators just everybody and general I pray you guys are always able to make your guys goal and then some to helping others who can't help themselves God Bless you guys and good luck on future events and keep team poor life choices off the couch till the very end we don't want to end the event early due to some "unexpected problems" love you pj murph and mecha richter lol XD

I know TriHex wasn't proud of this run, but he definitely made it entertaining and still played pretty well.
Damn, I'm so used to seeing the people on the couch explaining things to the crowd or reacting to the game; Tri was getting nothing out of his people.
Trihex seems like a really cool guy.
Yea true
He is.
True
This guy is a goat
Classic Trihex choking at the beggining and delivering in the end. great run kudos to tri

Trihard running Yoshi's Island is always a good watch. Tick tock.
this was the first speedrun I ever watched, and to this day it remains in my top five. it's one of the most honest runs I've ever watched, and the 2015 humor is just so perfect.
1:56:15 Shout out to Ray "BrownMan" Narvaez Jr for the 5,000 dollar donation
DeathBoyX1 holy shit
Admittedly, this is my favorite run of any game ever. It's just so perfect, I've lost count of how many times I've watched it.

Where could I go to learn the tech in this game to try and get proficiently fast in this game?
This is a pretty grueling run man - 3 hours of intensive execution. Mistakes are expected. Awesome run
Twelve years of perfecting this game leaves a prodigy. Takes me like ten hours to beat it on a good day.. Also wanted to give props to the developers on an amazing game that seems timeless. Very well put together.
Remembered the Jimi Hendrix style move using his teeth to play.. Tri Hex is a prodigy like Jimi.
I still think this was by far the best run in the whole event!
This game is just so beautiful. Wonderful memories from my childhood.
This game is a work of art in so many ways.
Dude. Damn. there are numerous under appreciated hype moments in this run i'd have been giving standing ovations for.
My fave platformer of all time. It still looks beautiful to this day.
this is my childhood , my favorite game ever
First time I've seen a SMW2 speed run, and holy moly was this awesome! TriHex did an amazing job here, I'm super impressed!
I really, really, really like Super Mario World. But sorry, people. Yoshi's Island is the best 2D-platformer ever made. And since nobody makes games like this anymore, it's also probably the best of all time.
PalmDesertRock probably fam, supermario world is still up there tho
YES
DKC2 is pretty close too
Trihex is such an amazing speed runner and entertainer
Trihex is my favorite speed runner out there. He's so chill and humble, and it makes watching him very enjoyable.
Wow first time watching trihex and i really like him as a speedrunner!!!! Chill, entertaining, and skilled! I just wish the couch was more supportive or talkative. Also yoshis island is amazing. Nostalgia :)
Yoshi's Island speedruns are just nuts to watch, I can just imagine the frantic inputs going on.
Amazing run as always by Trihex.
Also, any Yoshi's Island run at GDQ needs Carl Sagan on commentary!
I couldn't look away from the 2:06:33 part
+Capopo29 HOT DAMN
THAT WAS SO STRESSFUL
I wanna chill with TriHex
I wanna do both.
y0
*Fire alarm from AGDQ 2014*
He was too hot.
Dude right? I just came from the overview of this run and he's so people oriented. Love it. I wanna be his bestfriend. I hope he beats Caleb at armwrestling one day
trihex is super chill i got to chill with him for a bit at sgdq 2015 and hes just awsome
Thanks for sharing guys. I love the intro!
1:56:27, $5000 donation by Ray Narvaez Jr.......BROWNMAN?!??
Man, Ray loves Speedruns.
I literally skipped to a random frame in the video and I hear this lol
Ray throws so much money at gaming charity dude. It's actually kind of amazing.
this runner is pretty entertaining and chill. super nice speed run right there
I feel pretty bad for Trihex.
+kalas9000 Sorry for my terrible commentary ;;
+Thecrispy22 i really dont think that your commentary was as bad as everyone is saying. you gave pretty on-par commentary for gdq's. its just that trihex is such an entertainer that going between his style of commentary and anyone else will make almost anyone look bad.
Thecrispy22 Nah, it's okay man. Going back and looking at it, it was the start of the marathon and I'm sure there's a lot of pressure in that.
This game was so hard when I was a kid.. this blows my mind.
Still the best Mario game. Yoshi's powers really make the player feel like an unstoppable walking/fluttering death machine. And those boss fights!
What a humble and genuine guy.
I think the 2014 run was better not because of trihex, but the lack of commentary from the people on the couch Carl did a great job of that in 2014.
One of my favorite speedruns.
This is the first time I ever saw a Yoshis Island speedrun and damn are there many things I would have never thought to see in this kinda game
I never knew you could ground-pound those egg-splitting plants. 11-year-old me is standing around, waiting for max eggs like a chump.
thankyou so much for the run start time, it reminds me of the good old days
Truly amazing, i hope to see the stream next year
Wow, this looks like one of the most difficult games to 100% run (that I know of).
Ironic how the level for Poochy is named "Poochy ain't Stupid".
O YES HE IS
Yin10Dou I think he's just slow, not stupid. He takes his time to now what direction you're pointing at and that's it
That 5-4 skip is one of the best things I've ever seen.
run starts at 19:20
Anyone else catch the MTG reference at 56:22?
Man... Watching this, and remembering playing it as a kid... I really wanna get into running it. But I don't have a SNES or the time to learn it 😭
Well, yk, you could also play it on an emulator or SNES Classic or something - also this is a _really_ fast speedrun for this game - it probably took me 3hrs just to beat the first two worlds.
a donation mentions something something "hype"
me in my head: HYPE!!
The crowd:
I didn't get a chance to see this live, but shoutout to BrownMan for the $5,000 donation.
Holy crap the mole Yoshi has thug life glasses. Never noticed that. LOL
Such a sick run. Was actually trying the Poochy bonus level earlier on the GBA version of the game - literally the worst.
This man.
This man.
I've been tempering my winter depression by binging gdq and this one, to me, is the most technically impressive. fucking amazing
Too much for TriHex be the first run! also, that couch really sucked!!
No Bonus Accordion Guy?
This speedrun defines 2015 "swag" "dank"
This is probably one of the only multi hour speed run I enjoy watching :P Other is Sublemic's SM64 120 star run :P
2:51:23 Best part ever on a Yoshi's Island speedrun! ;)
Im confused about the world 5 level 4 skip. Was that really faster than just riding the big ghost blob thing?
Yoshi's Island is absolutley awesome game ever
A classic video.
This is the toughest crowd. They didn't cheer for ANYTHING.
2:14:50 I didn’t know atrophius watched YI speedruns!
Awwww yeah Trihex always entertaining!
Trihex is great - like him already.
1:04:09 "you'd look like a re-"
2:07:38 - Was that in the previous uploads?
MattS154 I wonder
+linkviii we missed a miracle
"HEY EVERYONE, WERE LIVE!!!!!" that man will never be known
...And I thought finding two unknown (I think) glitches in this game was good...wow...this blows my mind...
Can someone explain why he doesn't go to the goal straight away? at every level, when he gets to the end, he wastes some time going backwards before finishing the level.
python alert it's explained albeit not that greatly. Basically he does it to skip the bonus
python alert He explained at some point in the run that bonus room chance is tied to Yoshi's speed on most of the levels.
Going into the goal at top speed increases the chances of getting a bonus stage, which, in a speedrun, is a bad thing.
He goes backwards sometimes so as to go into thr goal post at a slower soeed.
Cant believe the incentive to see the tank top wasn't OVER $9000.
+System Records Hence the word "wasn't"
Amazing run!
1:38:00 - trihex eggplayer
2:51:40 - final boss
1:56:36 Ray Brownman?
2:51:24 what you cane here for
Sick Magic the Gathering reference from Trihex at 56:16
420 blaz.exe it
nobody appreciated his joke, "we're really there, this is 20XX, got the speedrunning towel and whatnot..." I thought it was prety hilarious. Like, look how far we've come!
I don’t get it.
2:53:11 The TV is glitching!
Who pays for the rest of the prizes? Are they something that attendees donate to the event?
Idea: Yoshi Island Relay Race. Passing the controller with each level. IDK.
are there are two sofas? :D
The 2014 run was much more entertaining to watch in my opinion
AnEvilPrinter because carl was there too
He's worried for missing a flower at 1-1, bro... it took me 3h 30m to finish this game... warpless.
does the program own this youtube channel or does a fan do it?
1:32:44 aw yeah deflate those sponsor assets!!
Didn't get the joke at 59:20
+lalethium All I know is I saw a TARDIS from Dr. Who
1:25:54 Hahahaha Kamek is just like "Goddammit!!!!"
I wanna party with Trihex
1:40:50 First donation! 3$!
this guy is dank, and his arms holy shit
Nice window at 1:32:40
Where's the conclusion?
Muszka never die
Why the re-upload? And why part 1?
MrSmbai first run of the marathon and why is answerd by other replies
I think that cool that companies like alien ware and capcom helping out respect guys and to all of agdq sgdq all the supporters donators just everybody and general I pray you guys are always able to make your guys goal and then some to helping others who can't help themselves God Bless you guys and good luck on future events and keep team poor life choices off the couch till the very end we don't want to end the event early due to some "unexpected problems" love you pj murph and mecha richter lol XD
Fun runner
I thought he knew about the stomping on the egg block to make it drop all you needed..
