    Okay, the drivers in sync with the William Tell is adorable. What a gorgeous engine!
    And she's not just being dragged; she's working. She just has to have a PTC escort for the mainlines.

      Why don't they put PTC in 611 so she can run under her own power next time she's in Strasburg?

    • @berkshirerailfanproduction5155
      @berkshirerailfanproduction5155 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      611 will most likely not have PTC installed because she’s mainly used on NS owned trackage and does not travel far like that unless she is accompanied by another locomotive. Besides, I don’t think that 611 will be going back to Strasburg again so it’s a really nice opportunity to see her there for people who can’t.

      If you mean over NS trackage it was just delayed constantly by other traffic, if you mean how slowly it moved over Strasburg track it's because they were being very cautious with such a large locomotive on their track, that's why you hear all the creaking towards the end of the video where I'm focusing on the wheels

    • @renegadeoflife87
      @renegadeoflife87 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn't have PTC equipment, which has become required on Class 1 right of ways like Norfolk Southern. Plus it helped stretch her fuel and water supplies so she wouldn't have to stop to pick up water along the way, letting the diesels do most of the work like that.
      Still, be glad that she's on the move at all. Because more than a few major railroads have become hostile to steam preservation and will not let the engines run on their track at all, they can only be taken dead in tow between groups of diesels.

      @renegadeoflife87 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      611 has been back in service for a few years now. Was resurrected for 21st century steam and ran a few seasons before that program ended.
      1218's boiler needs major work to be done before she could even try to steam again. All new firebox and flues required, and the engine has been sitting so long that bearing work would be necessary to revive it. They barely can find places to operate the 611, so there is no plans to restore 1218 to operation anytime soon since it would be even harder to find routes for.
