Team Replay and I loved every minute of the stream! Thanks for continuing to educate and entertain!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sooooo glad you are going to do a video on making the sketchbooks. You read my mind!!
That was very pleasant thanks. My granddaughter was very calmly watching with me. Coira is 5 and like her two cousins is an avid drawer and painter. Next time she paints waves I’m sure she will leave white paper just as you did. I’ll try my Aqua brush with ink. Hadn’t occurred to me to try! I actually like the aqua pens synthetic bristles even though they get stained rapidly. Thanks again from Terry in Scotland.
I use a syringe and I push ink into the open end of the refill tube. It works like a charm. I refill my pen at least once a week for like 4-5 months before the cartridge starts to stretch out where it connects to the pen and will start to leak. Then I throws out and start with a new refill.
Thanks!
So do I use a 1ml syringe for my refillable fountain pens..
Great video. Besides being an informative review of different varieties of sepia pens, your live world watercolor sketch was brilliant. So many online teachers show their "perfect" process ending in a perfect picture. You let it all hang out and thereby give us so much more!
First, we learn that mistakes are a part of the process and learn who to fix or adapt to the mistakes. Second, it bursts the expectation of perfection bubble. So many look at a video and say I am not good enough to do that perfectly and so do not even try. Lastly, you show us the "ugly" stage of the painting pointing out that all paintings go through this stage, even yours so one shouldn't give up at ugly. A great encouraging lesson for all. Great job as always.
Thanks!
It's such a learning experience for me to see how you approach , work through, and tackle difficulties while painting. Your painting turned out awesome, and it's encouraging- because more often than not, I experience the same kind of difficulties with my paintings. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Just got a new printer and made a card (not Printed) for a friend that I met at my nieces babyshower, and I love your book!
Thanks Linda 😊 also thank you for the birthday card and gift. You are very thoughtful:)
I bought the sepia ink from Diamine Ink and it’s much more orange than I was expecting. Not disappointed because I love orange but I’m happy to see this video because THIS is the sepia color I was looking for. ❤
Good to know!
Still watching but had to pause and say "drunk drawer" 😂😂😂 I also ordered the 5-pk of Nuobesty fountain pens, Dr. Ph Martin's Spectralite and Radiant from another recent video of yours. So much fun filling them up and testing them out! Ty for the rec! Ok, back to the video 😁
I came in on the replay. I did some art while watching. I appreciate the information on the Sepia Pens. I picked up 2 Pigma Micron Sepia Pens, size 01. These were Open Stock pens. I think I got them at Michaels. I love your painting. I agree with you and everyone else. Go away and come back. We all say, "Wow, I did that?". Love the sunglasses! Have a great week.
Glad it was helpful!
Hullo Lindsay, I am watching the replay and I have found the brand Rohrer & Klinger Their Sketch Ink bottles is so wonderful! It does come in several colors and is waterproof after it dries! I have used it in fountain pens and refilled brush pens too! If you want to you can use it before you let it dry for some fantastic washes then go back in for details. To answer your question about discontinued paint, No I would NOT buy a paint/pay extra for the color that has been discontinued. MOST any color can be perfectly mixed! Like the DS SAP Green it is a mixed color and there are so many variables, it looked different on every surface, The desire for these colors was blown out of proportion and if you could not live without it, you need to re-consider your life goals. Just my opinion of course. If you can not live without a shade of paint? Mix your own! It is like the substitute paints for cadmium paints. The "need" for heavy metals in your paints is not necessary, you can mix the color with others to get that same "hue" and this is why some companies charge more for them, when it truly costs them less to make, since they do not need to buy heavy metals!
Wonderful! Do the colors split if you add water?
@@thefrugalcrafter It depends on the color you choose some give a duo ink effect some just lighten up/out!
I think it is actually the front leg of the wake boarder/kite surfer that isn’t quite right in the sketch. To me, his back comes down further, so it is further from his elbow to the bottom of his bottom, then the line defining the outside of his right thigh is almost vertical … and the angles on all of that leg are a little bit different to what you have… but your drawing works perfectly for what you wanted, so all of that only matters if you are attempting to create really accurate realism, which I don’t think is what you usually aim for, so it doesn’t matter! All that matters is that it works!😊
Hi, Lindsay. Thank you for your video. ❤
You are so welcome!
This was wicked fun, Lindsay! I fast forwarded a bit in a couple of places, but i thoroughly enjoyed this! Love the sunglasses. It's refreshing to see that a seasoned artist can get in trouble, too. Of course you have the skills to ALSO get out of trouble.😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
I watched this from beginning to end (no voice at the end?), and truly enjoyed the learning I got from it. It's a 10! I bought several things you showed, sepia pens! I found several new tubes of quin gold, po48, py150, and see that quin gold is available via DS and DV. Should I hang on to all of mine? Anyway, this was great! You worked really hard and deserve applause!
The old one is po49 signal pigment I think. It's no longer sold by companies. Only from people who have a stash.
These are so good ☺☺
Thanks 😊
I don't ever get to catch live streams because of my jobby job. I would join in a heartbeat if I could! Always watch the replay though!! Looks like you have so much fun when you live stream!
We do have fun!
Seeing this stream after the fact, but definitely enjoyed this video, very calming as I worked along with you so to speak lol
Glad you enjoyed!
Loved this! 😎 ❤
Thank you!! 😁
Great painting!
Great info about all the pens etc.. I will defiantly buy some. Love your surfing dude, it was fun to watch and love how you added detail. + No I would not pay a high price for a tube of paint because it will no longer be made. Just seems silly not logical there are others. I am sorry i missed this live but it was still fun to watch. Love the sunglass idea, now he looks cool!! LOL Thank you for this fun!
Glad you enjoyed!
Check with different ink companies : color spot pens, Ferris wheel inks, jetpens is out of California. These companies sell inks from varies companies and fountain pens. I don’t remember your question so I will just send you on a journey to find the right ink. I love iroshizuku ink made by pilot Japanese ink. But it is not waterproof. But works really well in fountain pens or with a brush or dip pens.
you can refill the cartridges of the pentel brush pens (or any fountain pen) with a syringe. just use an ink thats fountain pen friendly
Lol, I feel you! This is why I don’t do portraits of people I know. My real face drawing skills are lacking. 😅 he looks great! I love the dynamic pose 🎉
Thank you so much 😀
I have been refilling the Pentecostal brush pen forever. A syringe and some waterproof ink and you’re good for along time
Nice! Do you put the needle in the end that pushes into the pen?
Great video! I'm sitting here going "make his beard just a little longer to fill out the face size." Then when you added the high light to his eyes and said "well that's a little creepy" I laughed out loud!!😅 But it turned out great. Kudos to you!! Me right here, I don't like to paint or draw in front of people.😐 I have painted in a class before, but everyone was painting, so I didn't feel intimidated.
I tried those refillable paper packs and I was quite confused by the paper. It says it's 100% cotton but it doesn't handle like the other cotton papers I have. It doesn't handle like cellulose paper either, though. It's different altogether. Paint seems to dry a lot quicker on it than I'm used to, and it stains the paper almost immediately. It's hard to lift paint, even pigments that shouldn't normally be staining. I mainly bought it to keep my swatches organized in a binder and it's fine for that. I'm not sure I'd want to use it for a whole painting though.
Was it the bee paper or does Paul rubens sell refills? The bee paper company got bought by Royal langnickle so it may have changed.
@@thefrugalcrafter Unfortunately I don't know. It was only marketed as Lightwish paper. I've never tried Bee paper or Paul Rubens paper so I can't compare it to those.
Great video! Can you link the hole punch that punches in that 3 and 3 pattern?
I just used a regular hole punch and punched each hole singularly.
I love your painting BUT was very disappointed that you never used the little palette that you chose for the thumbnail.
I bought it (( and the add on water pot/brush holder/storage case that clips onto the side and then the entire palette side into it when not in use and clips onto your keys/bag/belt loop when not in use and I was extremely excited to see you use it in real time for a real painting. . . only you didn’t use it at all. . .
Will you make a video like that using that little palette? It’s gaining in popularity and this add on water pot/brush holder/storage case in genius and I wanted to share it with you so you could order one if you liked it too. . . This may be the coolest tiny palette set up I have ever seen all put together
Sure! I will soon! I use it for couch and travel painting with a waterbrush. It's great! Where did you get the watercolor. I saw one on aliexperss, I think, but I have never ordered from there.
@@thefrugalcrafter that’s where I got mine, and I get a LOT of supplies. I’ve been shopping with them for several years now, but I never buy anything that doesn’t have multiple reviews and
Multiple good reviews at that. I have had good experiences and the few times I have had any issues they were corrected rather promptly. . . As for this palette set it’s fantastic and has stayed with me since it arrived. I’m even using the paints it came with in my sketchbook until i decide to replace with mission gold class. I’m gonna split the pans to convert it i to an 18color palette also with a simple and easy modification hack you’d like too!
I can’t draw lol but seriously I think it’s brilliant… I think the expression is changed because in the photo he has his mouth open. I am only making a suggestion..like I said I can’t draw but that’s what I did notice so you as the artist would know if this would make a difference… I do like how you create waves…
If you could have a neon glow, but it was lightfast it could be worth alot of money lol but ya it would have to a special feature you dont get anywhere else
Thank you for saying "sepia" right!
My pleasure!
Link to fountain pen safe ink by Alt Alternatives goes to Jane Davenport pen instead.
Oops! Thanks!
If I really like it and use it, I would stock up when it would be announced. But not for reselling. And I would look for substitute if I used up the reasonably priced stock. Trying it now that is discontinued I would not buy it nor am I interested to trying it. I don’t even use orange. I do like green gold. But I am not addicted to it. I actually do rather well with good 12 to 15 pans palette. In my larger palettes a great part of the palette stays untouched. It is just a waste of money for me.
Thanks for sharing!
