Love seeing your art supplies restocks, they are always so good and I love that you don’t buy more than what you need most of the time. There’s so many big art hauls on TH-cam making me think I need to try everything that’s out there. So it’s nice seeing your more relatable art hauls 😊 I really like the result of the piece you made, love all the colors as usual and really fun seeing what you can make with a limited amount of both colors and supplies 😄🩷

Yay, a little art haul & drawing vid! I love how tiny and stubby your supplies get Katie! I'm so proud at the moment 'cos my dark indigo is about half the original size... nowhere near as stubby as yours, but it is obvious now that 've been using it! 🤣 I was astonished by the size of your new Claire Fontaine book! I got the smaller one on your recommendation, but I couldn't imagine gong for the 30x30cm! 🤯
Haha thanks Eve, I love it when pencils get shorter and it's only when you buy a new one that you realise just how short it's gotten! You're well on your way to stubby pencils 😄 And I know right!! I think if you'd have told me last year I'd be using a sketchbook that big I would've ran a mile 🤣 But something about this month has really got me itching to work bigger! What are your thoughts on the smaller one, how do you like the stock?
lovely, thank you! a hint, just if you haven't thought of it yourself: if you really want the molotow colour in a chunky marker, you could purchase the refill bottle of that same colour and fill it into an empty chunky marker. that is expensive at first, but cost effective in the long run...
Ahh of course, what a great idea! I see they do the refills in that colour so that would work out perfectly! I do find the larger markers last a good while so I think it'd be cost effective overall. Thanks so much for sharing 😄
A refill bottle fills about halfway in a 15mm marker. I have two colours made this way. Powder pastel and Nature white. I want more, but as noted it is pricey.

I use Liquitex basic gesso on the pages of my Stillman & Birn Zeta series sketchbook. It works so well if you want to use acrylic paint in the sketchbook. No buckling and takes the paint beautifully. Using acrylic paints in large sketchbooks is so much more economical as compared to gouache.
Oh that's a great tip, thanks for sharing that about the Zeta sketchbook! I've found it's soooo smooth compared to what I'm used to so I think a layer of gesso will help with that too. Agreed about acrylic being more economical - the price of individual tubes of gouache is wild! 🤯
Thanks Katie, I've been doing this with my new supplies the last couple of years, being selective and buying only things I need but also picking up new things to build up my collection. I bought a single blue sennelier pastel and a single tube of Daniel Smith watercolour. It's really a nice learning curve buying things this way! Your picture is lovely too.
The best way to do it I think, Alex! It feels like a really sustainable way to build a collection too, and with things that won't go to waste. I started my Sennelier pastel collection with three colours but then I got a multipack 😆 the only problem I've found with trying a little and often is that I end up with lots of things I want more of 🤣

Super handy - it's going to get a lot of use! The smoothness of the Zeta is so different to what I'm used to but so far I've loved the way gouache glides over it!
@@KatieMoody Yep, it's beautiful paper! That's another reason I really love the Pith too and Odd Orange sketchbooks.
With the Molotow Markers you can get the an empty bigger size and then pour the ink into that one or if they have the refill bottles in that shade. Hope this helps. Adore the colours you pick. Can’t wait to see more lovely art from you.

I have a zeta and haven’t found my flow with it yet- but I also have quite a few sb’s, so I do really like it, just haven’t found what media I prefer in it etc yet. I’m excited to see what you do. That Claire Fontaine one is so dang spacious!!!!
Katie (or anyone) do yall know of a sketchbook a lot like the royal talent one but with white paper?
So far I've only tried gouache but I'm still getting used to the smooth paper in the Zeta! The Royal Talens one have a new version of the Art Creation sketchbook with white paper now - I'll have a video coming out on the 31st where I'll be reviewing it to see if it's the same paper-wise! 😄

Thanks Louisa! 💛 I've not used it much yet but have done a painting in it and the smoothness is so different to what I'm used to! It feels like it will handle a lot of paint so I'm eager to give it a 'proper' test and see what it can cope with 🤣

Hi Katie! I love your art! Do you recommend other Caradanche Neocolor ii colors & Luminance colors besides the ones you mentioned here? I’m looking colors for plein air / landscapes :)
Thank you so much! 🥰 I have a video sharing my top five shades of both of those in my Favourite Art Supplies video which I'll link here 😊 I think Neocolors are the same as the ones I shared here, but hopefully helpful for Luminance too! If you'd like any more suggestion then I'd be happy to share others I use for landscapes too - just let me know! Maybe I can do a video dedicated to it!

P.s. I forgot to ask...are the Neo II Pastels really hard to use? I'm an absolute beginner but your art is soo amazing...it makes me want to get into doing landscaping and flowers with them ❤ but I really am on a budget so I have to know if they'll be worth it 🙈
This comment makes me so happy, thank you!! So pleased it encourages you to create 🥰 Yes I find them so easy to use! I'd really recommend just starting with a few at first rather than a big set because like you say, they are an investment! A few colours you use often from other materials would work well - if you like flowers and landscapes then I'd say a couple of greens and some brighter colour pops too!

Katie, in our continual quest to find the most opaque white colored pencil 😂, what do you think of the China white? If not the China white, which brand of white pencil would you say is the most opaque and works best over other media?
Hahaha the ongoing quests of artists! I love this Derwent Drawing Chinese White - definitely my favourite one to date! I much prefer it over others I've tried as it has a matte quality but not chalky like others I've used. I find it works over everything (apart from neocolors of course). It's the one I'd recommend for sure! 💛
