"it makes him happy, so it makes me happy" thats a healthy relationship. i agree about the washing machines. the current ones hardly use any water & hardly move. the up & down agitators of yesteryear would seem to be more successful at cleaning. its like when i wash something stained by hand...you rub & rub to get the stain out similar to the agitator. & the detergents back then were made stronger & my grandmother swears the laundry came out whiter & smelled fresher. she used a clothesline outside & let the sun dry & bleach the whites & it had the smell of fresh air & sunshine on all your clothes. i would have liked that.
Napthaline soap is still around. I imagine you'd grate it. Not sure if you use it for clothes. But we all know that liquid soap is WAY more advantageous to the sellers...
Don't forget dust, bugs, and bird poops as well as the sun dulling all your colors.

I’ve hung my clothes outside, they end up smelling like dirt.
They are they people who will refurbish older style machines and re sell them for much cheaper to protect people from buying from the NEW market which is a bunch of overly priced electronic junk. I am blessed to be one of these people and cannot wait to open my own business restoring old dishwashers washers and dryers.

I admired Robert for the past 12 1/2 years because he and his many fellow washing machine collectors made me feel I wasn't the only one obsessed with washing machines.

You really need the 1967 Sears Kenmore gas, Wash'n'Dryer Combination with the Roto Spray wash. That's where the REAL excitement is.
I'm sure those old washers must work better than the new ones...
My parents had an old Kenmore that lasted almost 35 years. I don't think that machine had a day off the whole time either.

I was obsessed with washing machines when I was little. My Grandma had a 1957 or '58 Lady Kenmore. A stainless steel tub with the purple light, had only the sound that L.K. makes, and filling it up made my heart beat faster. My Grandad took me to the laundromat every once to a while to see the machines. I still love the smell of bleach and laundry detergent...

I always wondered why dishwashers didn't have windows. When I was little, appliance stores always had those "demo" ones on display where they were made out of transparent plastic so you could see the whole cycle. I still kind of want one of those.

Areana Sanchez I am 52 and still use my mom's Kitchen Aid mixer that she gave me when I was 28. She had it for about 20 years and made lots of bread with it. I think appliances today are made with a lot of plastic parts that wear out quickly. Oh and my 20 year old daughter wants me to gift my mixer to her when she moves in to her new place. LOL!
lynn I still have and use my great grandmother’s Kitchenaid from 1941 and my grandmothers from 1948. Not to mention my own. I don’t use 41 as much anymore since the replacement glass bowl is not only hard to find, but very expensive.

The additional plumbing and vent set ups for each pair of those classic machines and to run them must have cost a nice chunk of change but is still the coolest collection I've ever seen.

Lynn, the doll lady, has been selling dolls on eBay for years. They never mentioned this. I was once part of that doll community, so I remember her well. Her dolls were pretty expensive for their time and she had a lot of them to sell. She was right about one thing... the doll community is indeed cut throat. That is part of why I am no longer a part of it.
Love those washing machines and their whole place. The vintage mixers, and the ultra cleanliness is refreshing.

My mom's grandfather {well now my great grandfather}, she told me a story of how he had one of the first washing machines, anytime it broke down, he fixed it. Over and Over again until everyone in the neighborhood didn't have spare parts, after years of having it, they thrown it out. Now I wonder how much the washing machine guys would love to have it-

Omg I would live to have an old washer I really hate these new ones they don't spin and wash like there supposed to.
My washer started to be a pain after few months and when I got it I didn't know alot of ppl were either returning them or junking ,so one of the ppl that worked there I knew and said that they were just crappy washers,wish I could go BK to the old one I had with the spinner inside just feel like got my clothes cleaner,but I love this guys collection never seen so many different ones
The larger top loading Ropers work pretty well. I have found the larger capacity machines tend to be built a little better. I think with the smaller capacity machines they figure they will have less water and clothing in them. With less water and weight in them they figure they can get away with lower quality components.
I think it’s cool it’s not harming anybody and they get their stuff clean.

Y4123 Not only that they use it, but they look like they still work very well. They must put in a lot of time and effort to make sure that they’re still functional. It must be difficult to find parts if any of those appliances were to break down. Well done on maintaining post-World War 2 technology.

I love how the older laundry machines lite up. When my central air broke I discovered fans from the 1970s. Things were made so much better back then. I'm holding on to my 1992 GE washing machine.
