I totally agree! I think her heart is in the right place but those conditions are unfair to those poor skunks. She seems overwhelmed and the skunks should not be locked in those cages all day long. It probably would be best if she only kept a few and then re-homed the rest. I mean if they are to the point where they are about to start vomiting and seizing any minute from lack of food... that is animal cruelty.
I think you’d see that conditions are unfair or worse for a lot of animals. 600+ animals (dogs, cats, horses, etc, were ceased from a shelter I adopted one of my dogs from). Upon investigation, the conditions of the people’s home who ran it were filthy. And not just sorta filthy, but like beyond anything I’ve ever seen...and I’m pretty sure part of the problem was how overrun with animals they were. There was feces and urine all over their home. Clothing piled on top of clothing, on top of clothing. Probably because the clothing kept being urinated on by cats, etc. These people who loved animals had everything ceased and were sent to jail.
Yeah...Deborah is animal-hording. People do it with rescue dogs and stuff too. It seems like someone who is as into skunks as her should've imagined at some point what it might be like to be always cooped up in a kennel that's in a small house; pretty awful. I'd rather die than have that kind of life.
There's a family of skunks that pass thru my backyard every night. Occasionally I leave them some leftover fruits or vegetables etc. They seem pretty happy with that and look great. It's quite enough interaction for me as well. Removing a wild animal from its habitat, taking away its natural defenses just to keep it in a cage and parade it around in costumes is abusive and, quite frankly, insane!

This is a totally different Taji! Dude, you killed it in this episode with the confidence! And everyone was obviously comfortable with you. You're my inspiration to get out there as an introvert, so thanks 😁
“I love this animal so much that I keep it locked up in a cage it’s entire life.” How miserable. You don’t love the animal at that point, you just love HAVING the animal.
Oh its not soo bad. It's better then being in the woods where ever second could be your last with hunters, wild beasts, owls... Not to mention all the disease. You ever see a living fox hobbling around with maggots pouring out the skull where the ear used to be? Living in the wild sucks for animals. I think these skunk owners love their animals, it's just some of them are going through some serious depression inside and using skunks as a way to deal with it, like that lady with 50 skunks. Our society is filled to the brim with miserable people in this post-Christian era.
@@gamebro511 As much as living in the wild may seem like it sucks for these animals you've gotta realize their natural instincts make it so they thrive in those environments. A lot of the evolution behind these animals has been based on fear and acquiring food. It may not seem ideal to how we humans have evolved but there's a point where people are just projecting onto animals and basing it on what they themselves think is an ideal environment. With all due respect, I don't believe any animal has evolved to thrive in a cage. Hopefully I don't sound super bratty or anything, my point isn't to be stand off-ish.
the couple with the seizure-alert service skunk was so sweet!!! it's so hard to get any animal trained to be able to alert seizures, let alone an animal that is rarely domesticated!!!
Service animals for epileptics don’t stop seizures, they warn us that we’re about to have a seizure so we can get ourselves in a safe place before it happens. I don’t think they are describing it correctly, but what they can do in addition to warning us, is helping us to wake up after a seizure by putting pressure on us.
I had a pet skunk while I was in high school. Wonderful fellow! When I went away to college I did give him to the vet tech and she took excellent care of him for many years. They're now illegal in Georgia to own

@@wednesday1899 As far as I know, skunks are nocturnal, yes, so having them in a darker place during the day is probably a good idea, but sadly, that's the only positive thing about how she keeps them. I know she means well and all, but there's gotta be a better way to do this... maybe one that doesn't involve them being stuck in cages I'd consider too tiny even for a hamster.
There’s some malarkey going on here with the “ADA-certified service skunk.” Whether or not the animal can detect seizures, which would be impressive, there are two main issues: • The ADA is a federal law, it is not a certifying agency. There are no federal certificates for service animals. • The ADA allows for only two species to be classified as service animals - dogs and miniature horses. All other animals are specifically prohibited from that designation. The owner may have gotten some online certification, and the skunk may be a therapy or emotional support animal, but it’s not legally a service animal. It is not afforded the same rights nor protections as a service animal. In many states, ownership may still require a wildlife handler’s license and possibly land ownership with further restrictions. I’m not fussing about the semantics for their own sake, mind you, but there are many people with trained and qualifying service animals who are still being denied access in part because other people want to ... raise a stink ... about claiming equal rights for some more exotic animal. It can turn into a real ... dog-and-pony show. I’ll see myself out.
So first off plenty of animals are trained to detect seizures, dogs are also trained a lot to detect low blood sugar, so it’s not a stretch to say a skunk could do the same. Also practically any animal can be a service animal. Hell there’s people out there with crocodiles as service animals. The term is pretty loose at this point and the ADA isn’t the only organization with power in service and emotional support animals that are recognized
@@killerkitten7534 emotional support animals are NOT the same as service animals. Under the ADA only service animals are recognized, and only dogs and miniature horses are considered eligible to be service animals.

@@Vahmrick60 I can't remember if she said Pepe was vaccinated but when I looked it up, apparently there is no approved vaccine for skunks. Still, I agree that was fucking stone cold evil. Never heard of skunks being pets, its great, they are sweet and the lady seems comforted by them, but weirds me out to see that people create pets in a planned way by domesticating them, breeding them, descenting them, making them depending on you, nurture/ nature, no, we need more nature, definitely, to me, this also has a whiff of human selfishness. Cool video Vice !
Selfish? Cause animals are soo much happier being rotted by disease and eaten alive in the woods? You anti-pet people are just as silly as the peta people. Come back to the middle of the pool where all the cool kids are already!
I have to say it seems that you went into this to document an oddity and no doubt it is but I have to say people who love animals have a level of passion that can't be measured by people who don't have it. And I get that it's a thing that is specific to a particular animal. It just goes to show how skunks can be absolutely kind and enjoy getting pet and just want to have a nice life. Really all animals do. I really enjoyed watching this program thank you so much for making it. I wish you would do a 2022 version if that's even a thing! LOL
I didn't' have all 11 at once. They were brought to me as orphaned babies. As babies they considered my children and myself as their family. As well as our cats and dogs. Skunks play a game we called "stomp-stomp" and my first skunk played this with our dogs. Once our English Bulldog didn't want to play so Raid nipped the dog, the dog snapped at Raid, so Raid sprayed the dog. Ever after the dog played the game! They were all housebroken. Our home didn't smell like "skunk spray". Although we did have a few incidents, they didn't spray unless they had a reason to. We bathed them in the sink and used a blow-dryer to dry them. Raid, and Channel, and Chloe slept on my bed . . Again, I didn't have them all at once. Most were released back into the "wild" when they were adults and ready.
MC Pope If you had a TH-cam channel with videos of your orphaned babies I’d subscribe to you in a heartbeat! The visual of you blow drying the skunk is soooo cute and funny! And I LOVE that you named one of them Raid. If I had a skunk when I was little I’d probably try to give its hair little braids. How do you play the stomp-stomp game? And did the locals just know that you were the person to bring any orphaned babies to? Did the skunks released into the outdoors ever try come back home to you? Did the descented skunk have a harder time in the wild? And what did you feed them and where did they poop? And are they not nocturnal? Does it hurt to get nipped? Did they ever spray you? Did you have any cats, and if yes, did they get along?

@@classicalrules5594 You said it perfectly. People who aren't used to hearing anothers bad news can react in odd ways, like smiling or laughing. Its an unconcious reaction, but god dayum dude, it makes you look like a fucking prick, even when you aren't one. I don't think he is, at least.
the rabies testing laws are fd up, the law needs to be changed, if an animal is not showing symptoms quarantine options should come before execution , and if you think the animal got out and got exposed to rabies but doesn't have symptoms then go get treated for rabies, its expensive but they dont cut your head off. the only way to test for rabies is by killing the animal, we need to get a better test or dont use it on every rabies vector species that comes in contact with people especially if they are pets
There's a supposed rapid test for rabies but it's never used. They just kill them as soon as a bite is reported. Period. Pretty sickening because the people killing wildlife are the ones paid to PROTECT wildlife. And these are domestic bred and raised skunks, yet they are treated no differently than wild skunks. Until wildlife is added to the rabies vaccine, they'll just keep killing them, no questions asked. Yet they are using these same vaccines in bait stations to innoculate wild populations. Pretty screwed up! That's clearly admitting the vaccines are effective yet they then won't add any of the RVS to the vaccine labels. That's our wonderful gov at work as usual!
they kill them in CT if you just make bare handed contact with a vector species, you dont even have to get bitten its pathetic and it is ridiculous, especially when it's someones pet, quarantine for a week or 2 would work just as well. since they wiil exhibit symptoms and die if they are positive... stupid people
Tracy Hughes WHAT?! That's outrageous! Here they have to bite or scratch before they'll euthanize. I find it really frustrating and stupid that each state has all their own set of laws and regulations regarding wildlife. NOTHING is cohesive!
yeah its crazy, if you accidentally tell animal control you petted a raccoon kit that is completely healthy they'll euthanize it and test for rabies , i made this mistake once
I dont like the idea of the skunk being killed but it is worth noting that rabies is common in skunks and rabies in humans is almost always fatal if it advances to the neurological stage so it is very important to know if the animal has rabies.
I didn't know the answer to this so I looked it up an here is the answer. There is no rabies vaccine approved for use with skunks (I guess because most states do not recognize them as pets) and therefore even if you get your skunk vaccinated there is no legal recognition of the vaccination.
Who is also the person who runs event.. Two people who run the event are talking about how there is huge competition when in reality they probably rig the shit 😂
I love skunks, and I can appreciate their love of skunks. However, I believe skunks belong in the wild. If skunks are rescued or unable to return to the wild after rehabilitation, then having a skunk as a pet or an ambassador is awesome. I wonder where all these skunks come from? They can’t all be rescues.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Geeze.
I agree. She has way too many skunks. So hungry the skunks throwing up bile? Jesus lady. SMFH
Yeah she seems overwhelmed and is at a point where she needs help to get it under control.
Yeah...Deborah is animal-hording. People do it with rescue dogs and stuff too. There's a family of skunks that pass thru my backyard every night. Occasionally I leave them some leftover fruits or vegetables etc. They seem pretty happy with that and look great. Removing a wild animal from its habitat, taking away its natural defenses just to keep it in a cage and parade it around in costumes is abusive and, quite frankly, insane!

You ever see a living fox hobbling around with maggots pouring out the skull where the ear used to be? Living in the wild sucks for animals.

There’s some malarkey going on here with the “ADA-certified service skunk.”
Whether or not the animal can detect seizures, which would be impressive, there are two main issues:
• The ADA is a federal law, it is not a certifying agency.
Yeah I was like “....mmmmmm... not a service animal”
Interesting, makes sense
i bet people paid you, to do their essays huh

I love this ! We raised 11 orphaned skunks over several years (Kelowna, Creston, and Cardston) . Only one was descented. They lived in our home.
MC Pope what did your home smell like???? Did they all get along???

I guess i just thought somebody who did interviews like this would have more experience dealing with uncomfortable situations, and it threw me when he reacted so painfully awkward by smilling. Its an unconcious reaction, but god dayum dude, it makes you look like a fucking prick, even when you aren't one. I don't think he is, at least.
So which executive at Vice is this kids parent?
Joshua Fulton good Q
Julio Blanco. How did you know ?
Probably one of the stoners. 😁
Some people are on such weird trips and i love it
the rabies testing laws are fd up, the law needs to be changed, if an animal is not showing symptoms quarantine options should come before execution , and if you think the animal got out and got exposed to rabies but doesn't have symptoms then go get treated for rabies, its expensive but they dont cut your head off. the only way to test for rabies is by killing the animal, we need to get a better test or dont use it on every rabies vector species that comes in contact with people especially if they are pets
Tracy Hughes you need a good dose of rabies
That one couple has so much going on. Lol. Skunks, seizures, autism, trans stories, marriage anniversary, face tattoos. So much.
Anyone else think Taji looks almost exactly like Ethan from h3h3?
He's just not a thicc boi
Yeah I guess I do kinda see the resemblance. Do you still keep up with H3?
11:55 That's so sad! How can you kill someone's pet then bring them body like it's nothing? 😞
Rocio And why would they even bring it back to her? I agree with you, that's the dumbest thing ever!
Best part was the guys response lol, but bring it back so the owner can bury it and have some closure.
Because it's illegal to take a wild skunk out of the wild and make it a pet
13:03 Check out his micro expression when he says "that's really awful to hear that happened." There's a definite smirk there.
The whole time he's standing there like a creepy nervous pubescent boy, ready to mount her - so bizarre.
He wanted to laugh but didn't wanna laugh in her face
I saw in this order: sad, angry, fear, happy, sad, angry
“Micro expression” he makes a full fledged smile everyone noticed this
It wasn’t a smirk, more an awkward smile
this was so much more wholesome than i expected, i nearly cried
"...a former Queen Skunk, right here!" Lol! I love skunkies!!!
Who is also the person who runs event.. Two people who run the event are talking about how there is huge competition when in reality they probably rig the shit 😂
So... the skunk jail lady and her friends always win... and no one minds?!
