Patch Panel for the Sail Panel - Rusted out Window Channel Repair - GTO RestoMod (Ep 23)

- Today we tackle the last hole that I know of in Ruby's body. The sail panel rusted out on the side due to poor drainage on these GM A Body cars so we are going to cut out the pitted sheet metal and make up a patch panel or two.
If you have a project you would like to showcase at the end of one of my videos just email me a few pics and a short description to: foothillpaintandfabrication@gmail.com

Thanks for the video Mark. It's a sign of a true expert when you spend so much time fixing things right that you can't see.
One of the things I hate is looking back knowing I could have done a better job but didn't. No regrets on Ruby if I can help it.
Mark
Like to see people put the time and effort in finessing parts to fit . New to original is not that easy . Great Job .
Thanks Michael. Some repops are better than others but they all require work for sure.
Mark, I am really enjoying this build. You are doing it right and that will show in The finished product. I also like that Ruby is a post car, it will be one of the things that makes her special. Keep up the good work and keep the vids coming.
Thanks Steve, I think they only made a little more than 5 thousand Sport Coupes in 67 and from what I know was the least expensive of the 3 that year. My neighbor actually bought a fully loaded GTO in 1967 but it was the Hard Top. You are correct it will probably be pretty rare because I go to a lot of shows and never see a Sport Coupe. We have a ways to go so lots more videos on the way so stay tuned and spread the word so we can build the channel.

That was awesome work Mark! Always a joy to watch your craftiness!
Thanks Doug, progress is slow but steady.
Fine job there Mark! Beneficial to your viewers to see real world tools being used. Great idea to use the multi-tool with welded blade...getting some more use out of the spot welder! Using the MIG on the patch panel would be the way most would get this done and after grinding looks about the same as TIG...
Thanks Don.
I always try and be genuine and show what someone in their garage should expect. Far too many misleading videos out there as you know.
Excellent video Mark. I have many similar holes to fix in the 49. Watching your problem solving techniques really helps my work! Thanks again.
Thanks Robert. Don't be afraid of going a little bigger to get to sound metal, it makes welding much easier.
That’s great advice. I’ve been doing that (and using the copper backer) and it’s really helped me.
@@robertmazzei2412 Good to hear, just keep at it and before you know it you will be tackling those tough ones with ease.
Looking good!
Thank you, making progress little by little.
Lock Ruby in for 2024 Sema Show
I wish, don't think she will be done and they don't let guys like me attend.
Hoping to get her into some bigger shows though.
Ruby won’t leak, but if she does…there’s epoxy!
Trying to make a forever car so when electrics dominate the roads Ruby will be rumbling right along side of them a hundred years from now 😎
