It warmed up and the snow melted so we thought we would do a clean up of the property before more snow came. We started burning a massive stump, cleaned up the old lean-to shelter we originally had the kitchen under, and raked out a better path up to the cabin. Feels good to get this place cleaned up a bit. Thanks for following the journey!

Though I completely agree with the idea that no one has time they should waste but I found it funny to be watching your video because I'm think of building a cabin (again) and here I am 76. Point is don't give up just because you are getting older but definitely don't waste a moment.

True. People say “it’s never too late” I understand the sentiment but sometimes it is too late. The past two years were a wake up call for me personally. We lost a lot over the past two years. We lost a baby just before the pandemic hit, lost family to suicide throughout this whole mess. Like you were saying, I’m also very aware of how finite time is. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

Age does catch up to us all and limits us physically. When we're young we hardly if ever think about how our time is running out. As we get older and closer to the end of our lives we cannot escape the thoughts about it. Go while you can, and enjoy the journey. Enjoy the small pleasures that we're given.

Cleaning and tyding your land to make it "usable", just after spending months/year building a cabin in the woods is the most satisfying thing ever.

You know me, Jesse.. I retired a bit early, a few months ago, at 60. I had to have a career that was satisfying in its own right. I have zero regrets. But I am gettin' onto things as much as I can, and exercise daily so I can be in good enough shape to get it done. The health problems are always there, and I've had my share back in my mid-forties. I have a 10 acre "farm" but I lease out most to folks who can use the income with the crops, and a tiny bit gets passed down to me. I am working on my shop and stuff IN my shop as that's what gives me satisfaction, as well as a bit of caring for the land - it's in excellent shape now ! and it's serene, peaceful, and beautiful. I share it with others when they get the chance to go out here. It's all good! Very friendly people here. I love them and they love me. What more do I need except to be as good of a person and live my faith daily.

"Tired of lying in the sunshine,
staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long,
and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find
ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run,
    you missed the starting gun.
And you run, and you run
to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way
    but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death." - Pink Floyd "Time"

I would have taken a really long speed bore (extenders) and bored holes through the stump. Swiss cheese it good and then done the fire. The holes would help it burn pulling air through and get it burning internally almost like a rocket stove. Might have saved some fuel for your wood pile. Love the cabin... Definitely miss Canada, can't get places like that here for realistic money.

A lot of people saying why did he “waste” all that fire wood? The reason he used it was to burn that big stump, to burn through a stump that size you need a lot of heat, to generate a lot of heat you need a lot of fire wood, it’s common sense really, pretty easy to understand the mans thinking here…

Hi Samurai Carpenter I’ve enjoyed watching your territorials over the last two weeks especially the one where are you are making your carpentry bench which might of been from quite awhile ago.
Notice when you are cutting up logs to put on your fire they could’ve been quite nice for doing some wood turning if you’ve ever done it it might be another project for you to do.
listening to what you are saying about time, not having enough of it wasting it, in a few days time I will be 70 years old what you have just been doing on your bit of land clearing it I’ve been doing this over the last few weeks on my piece of land I have in France just because you are retired it doesn’t mean you have to stop doing work we just have to take one step at a time this is what you say in time make sure you spend enough time looking and studying what you are going to do to be safe when you are doing it at our age.
And as for wasting Time I’ve just done that for last 17 years trying to make a lovely place for my ex partner who has just screwed me and tried to destroy my life I do not have enough time left to get back the resources that I had made over the time I’ve been working, I still cut down trees Only if they’re leaning in the wrong direction and I use the wood for doing wood turning and for my log fire to keep me warm in winter times, and this I have to do every year to make sure I have enough logs for the following season.
Time is the essence of space you cannot go forward on it you cannot go backwards on it time is now use it to a best advantage so if you think I’m doing something at that time you must do it.
    Phil from the moulin France

Same thing happened to my dad, doctor who treated people in our small town for many years then, wham, at 62 cancer, 6 months later, gone. I think that we all have things we want to do and when it's too late we look back and wish we had done them differently but, I'm not really sure if that's always fair. We do the best we can and do what we think we need to do at the time. I am at a stage in my life where I can afford some property and start living some of my dreams. I am discovering that I can't do the work that I use to, so I am having to curtail some of that dream. Do I wish I would have done it sooner, hell yeah. Could I have done it sooner, maybe but I would have had to sacrifice a lot that I probably would look back on and wished I had done that differently. So, who knows, my advice is do the best you can with what you have and enjoy the ride as much as possible. It's all we can do.

When I lived in a house with a fire place I'd build a fire the same way (no torch just a match). With a buildup of kindling like that but with an open center and a piece of fat wood on the second layer up. Filled the center with whatever paper came in the mail and put the small rounds and splits teepee style over it. Never failed to start that way and the large wood stood at the sides of the fire place drying to be next on the fire. I was able to eliminate weekly garbage puckup during that time. I got the smallest garbage can you could get (the theives doubled the price on that almost as soon as I did it, but I had no garbage). I didn't buy anything that I couldn't burn or compost. The recycle container I had to have was a total waste of money. I eventually sold that house an RV full time. You can't be forced to pay for stuff you don't need when your house has wheels under it.

“For what does a man get in all his labor and in his striving with which he labors under the sun? Because all his days his task is painful and grievous; even at night his mind does not rest. This too is vanity. There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good. This also I have seen that it is from the hand of God. For who can eat and who can have enjoyment without Him? For to a person who is good in His sight He has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, while to the sinner He has given the task of gathering and collecting so that he may give to one who is good in God’s sight. This too is vanity and striving after wind.”

Curious, it appears that one of the trees you were burning here was killed using tree root killer? The green flames in the roots at 17:50 suggest copper sulfate or Alum was used near/on the tree at some point.

I think that might be a refraction or other trick of light played on the camera. If you look closely, it looks like the flames are burning upside-down. But, i could be wrong.

You know if you come up with a way to put a blower at the bottom (steel tube) burning the stump out would be quicker.....that is how they do it down here in the South
