New reporting indicates that the Biden administration has approved Israel's plan to attack Rafah in exchange for Israel not launching counterstrikes on Iran. "Israel is almost certainly going to respond to the Iranian strike in some way," says Mairav Zonszein, a senior Israel analyst for the International Crisis Group. Now "it has the benefit of being able to dangle both threats": an invasion on Rafah that would heavily increase the death toll of Palestinians in Gaza, or an attack on Iran that would likely spark a wider regional war. While Israeli approval of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has drastically waned, Zonszein suggests that its military campaign shows no signs of stopping. "Israeli society is largely a right-wing society. It is a society that has not spoken about or thought about Palestinians or the occupation except when it's forced to. And it's a society that has gotten used to acting with impunity."

First, we should reflect deeply upon the painful divide that has festered among us, causing the devastating toll of hundreds of lives lost and thousands wounded. We cannot afford to nurse bitterness or delay action, waiting for the war's end to ponder our fractured state. Now is the time for introspection. We need to pinpoint the reasons behind our present circumstances and act accordingly.
Our quest for understanding needs to extend to our lives’ very source: the upper force of love, bestowal and connection that acts on us beyond our current level of awareness, which perceives through an egoistic and divisive lens. It is no matter of religion, but a realization that reality’s governing force is singular, and we accordingly need to stand united before it as one.
Precisely in our trying times, we are in need for an expansion of consciousness to let the upper force of love and bestowal into our lives. We need to raise the pain and anguish that erupts in so many people in such times to the upper force, and wish for it to mend our torn relations, and draw us closer together. We must seek to hold each other close to our hearts, not solely in times of war, but as an enduring duty.
We are a nation established not on a biological foundation, but on a spiritual-ideological one: "Love your neighbor as yourself." That is, we were people from all around ancient Babylon who felt a problem with living our lives solely according to competitive-materialistic ideals and sought for a higher truth to our existence, which we revealed as a higher force of love, bestowal and connection that united us above our divisive drives. That is why we cannot remain divided without suffering from our separation.
Our mission to unite above our divisions is constant, because divisive egoistic desires constantly surface within us, driving us apart. Therefore, much like a diligent student who finds new homework awaiting them each day, we should not accumulate any more overdue assignments that end up exploding in our faces, pressuring us into critical situations such as the one we now find before us. Instead, we should hurry up and correct our hearts to favor unity “as one man with one heart” above our divisions.

It seems that Mayrav Zonshine is biased against Iran. She makes it sound like Iran was aggressive. Iran was very civil and diplomatic. The large number of drones were easy to shoot down, they were old. Two weeks notice was given to the US and Israel to prepare. There were three targets - all were military and were away from civilians to minimize the chance of civilian casualties. (Tragically there was one girl killed or injured by falling debris from a shoot down.) And There is no excuse for considering it a "trade off" between either an Israeli "retaliation" - which is ABSOLUTELY NOT APPROPRIATE IN ANY CASE - and a continuation and increase of genocide and ethnic cleansing in Rafah. That "trade off" language is a masterful DECEPTION by Biden and Netanyahu to deceive the Americans and Europeans into thinking that a concession must be made to Israel. Israel SHOULD STAND DOWN. The only right they have left - since they are totally morally in the wrong and diplomatically in the wrong - is to CEASE FIGHTING and begin to make reparations to the Palestinians. This attack went well beyond the existing tactics of *limiting the arms flow to Hezbollah, the Lebanese movement, or pushing back Iranian-backed groups from its northern border.*
*This was an attempt to eliminate the Iranian leadership in Syria.*
After six months, the war in Gaza is going badly. *Israeli ground forces are facing stubborn Palestinian resistance which shows no sign of surrendering or fleeing, amid the biblical scale of destruction and the real suffering of its people.*
Once again, *Israel needed to play the victim, to sustain the myth that it is fighting for its existence. What better time for Netanyahu, the gambler, to throw the dice and attack an Iranian consulate,* knowing full well what that meant?
The US also knew what Netanyahu was doing, *which was to try to drag America into an attack on Iran for at least the third time in 14 years.* That is why the US told the Iranians directly they had nothing to do with the strike and only knew about it when the planes were in the air.
*Iran does not want a war, but it is capable of responding.*
So, *if it does not want a war, the message to the US is that it has to restrain its wilful, adolescent child, Israel,* the child that has been pampered by its parent for so long, it thinks it can do to the region whatever it wants.
*Israel has now led its backers into a hell hole in which there is no peace or even prospect of one.*
The message Israel wanted to put out was that despite appearances, Israel has allies in the region who are prepared to defend it.
Israel may be celebrating the fact they have real allies, but by doing so they are fatally undermining their friends’ legitimacy.
Iran has made its point and Israel is weaker as a result.
*This is the first time it was attacked directly by Iran who, like Hamas, gave it the impression it was not interested in war.* It is also the first time that Israel was told by Biden not to strike back. After such an attack the visuals look bad: Israel needs others to defend it and is not free to choose how to strike back.
The attack leaves its protector the US casting around for policy options.
