    We speak with veteran journalist Peter Maass about the Israeli war on Gaza and his new opinion piece for The Washington Post headlined “I’m Jewish, and I’ve covered wars. I know war crimes when I see them.” Maass, who was a senior editor at The Intercept until earlier this year, has spent decades covering wars, including the Bosnian genocide in the 1990s that killed about 100,000 people over nearly four years. He says many of the same war crimes he reported then are part of Israel’s current assault, including sniper attacks on civilians, bombing of civilian infrastructure, attacks on bread lines and besieging whole populations by preventing food and other aid from entering. “What seems to be unfolding in Gaza is even worse than what I saw in Bosnia,” says Maass.

      I'm 24, from Texas. The only geno/cide ever taught to us was the holocaust and that they aren't common or rarely happen. The problem is that our schools refuse to teach us about it and what it is and how it happens. That's why GenZ are so mad about this because people are trying to hide this and tell us it isn't happening when we see with our own eyes it is. There is an agenda to hide this and keep people from learning about it. Older people may have been out of school for a long time and do not realize how much our school systems are failing us because there are people trying to make that happen.

      Everyone under 30 grew up in school systems which never taught about either- and that Gsides are rare or never happen. Repubs have been trying to erase that Gsides ever happened, and wouldn't teach about the Hcost if they could without backlash. Repubs made the US education system fail and are surprised that people are still trying educate themselves despite their efforts. We want to know more but the people who were supposed to teach us failed at teaching. And it wasn't the teachers, it was the principles and school boards who want to teach there is no such thing as Rsism, Gside, Hphobia, etc. They made us uneducated on purpose, but that doesn't mean we're stupid.

    Not everyone may know what a war crime is or looks like, but most people on a fundamental level have an innate understanding of what could be a crime against humanity. The only war crimes have been and are committed by Hamas from 2007 through to October 7 2023. These include the bombing and killing civilians and then the indiscriminate murder, rape, burning and the taking of civilians as hostages on Oct. 7. Using civilian institutions e.g. hospitals, schools, aid facilities as military bases to launch their attacks, make these fair targets in war. Hamas terrorists do not wear uniforms but hide among civilians using women and children as shields. Their ideology is the same as the n@azis as they do not want peace, they do not want a two state solution, only to kill Jews. Gaza has plenty of food and no one is starving. Whoever heard of the Allies sending food to Germany and Japan in WWII? The ratio of terrorist to civilian deaths is the lowest ever seen in urban conflicts, (even if one believes the fictitious numbers from the Gaza Ministry of Health aka Hamas) just compare to Afghanistan and Iraq. No country has done more to limit non-combatant casualties as has Israel. Remember that Hamas still holds 133 hostages which is a war crime and they will be defeated. Note the help Israel received from its Sunni neighbors i.e. Jordan and Saudi Arabia in response to the Iranian war crimes.

    The genocide in Bosnia was horrific by all means and i thought that was the worst i could see in my lifetime, until the genocide now in Gaza. The difference is, in Bosnia 100K dies in 3 years where around 60% military and 40% civilians, in Gaza more than 95% are civilians. Also the mass destruction of hospitals, schools, universities, refugee camps, holy places, graves, shops and other entities in Gaza never been seen before.
    I believe the Bosnian genocide was one of the worst, but at the time the west countries and UN had the conscience to prevent it, but now the west is complicated and funding the genocide.
    I wish people understand that the next generations will ask us what we did to prevent this horror? how could we sleep knowing the kids in Gaza dies everyday of bombs or hunger?

      If 95% are civilians, where are all the dead Hamas operatives? Are you aware that the Hamas way of fighting is a war crime by definition of their charter and in practice as well? are you aware that holy places are used for storage of deadly weapons and hospitals used as military headquarters for over a decade, abusing western standards of not hitting those places because they are supposed to be civilian places, something that Hamas laughs about? This is so one-sided ...

    • @PAL669
      @PAL669 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You need to get the facts. Hamas terrorists do not wear uniforms but hide among civilians using women and children as shields. Even the Gaza "Ministry of Health" aka Hamas report that 20% are combatants. Since they double their "statistics" it is assumes that at least 40% are combatants and it's probably higher. Kids in Gaza lived very nicely until October 6, so send your questions to Hamas and don't embarrass yourself by spewing obvious nonsense.

      There is no Genocide.
      Look up the definition of genocide.
      Populations need to decrease dramatically to be a genocide.
      Casualties in a war are not a genocide.
      Palestine has already replaced their inflated death numbers.
      180 babies born in Gaza a day.
      The population has exploded.
      They shoot little Martyrs out of their vaginas like missiles.
      The term genocide was coined to describe the horror of more than 6 million Jews who were massacred during WW2.
      The Jewish population still has not recovered from their genocide 80 years ago.
      There is no genocide unless population numbers go down.
      That's what the word genocide describes.
      Stop misappropriating words to play victim and cause Antisemitic hatred.
      Hamas have not done one thing to protect their own children.
      They use them as pawns in their war games and to exploit their suffering for sympathy propaganda.
      Palestine is blackmailing the world's morality by attacking and then hiding behind their own civilians.
      It's the despicable behaviour of sociopaths.

    The war in Gaza has been handled so poorly on humanitarian grounds, with innocent children and civilians being murdered and their homes deliberately and viciously destroyed on a large scale, directly or indirectly by so-called civilized or democratic governments. This not only causes horrible long-term mental damage to the future generations of Palastinians, but also deeply affects decent and conscientious people around the world. For the past few months, here 6,000 miles away, I have been haunted by nightmares and sleeplessness just imagining what is happening in Gaza. October 7 was bad, but this is a hundred times worse. • @matan9577
      @matan9577 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      History flash: Jews came to Israel much before WW2, but by and large they were not accepted there blindly like Europe and the West have been accepting Muslim refugees and muslims from all over the world over the last half century to the point of granting them more than local citizens do, excessive protections and first-class benefits and integration. Despite them being refugees from a bloddy-deadly antisemitic Europe long predating WW2. That's except for those living their throughout history, which were a minority indeed, and other than a minority of friendly inviting Arab villages.
      More specificaly, sadly, already before WW2, 1936-1939, the Arabs consistently attacked Jews in Israel indiscriminantly in an organized manner, but this chapter is not popular in Arab history textbooks, since the British did their best to protect and curb that, as it was also aimed at British facilities and personnel. This led to the British encouraging or allowing the Jewish community to organize their own protections, most of which were following what you'd call modern concepts of ethics, and only the fringes being terrorist, which unlike with Hamas were not supported by the majority (and at one period the main Jewish establishment hunted them down under moral grounds). So much of that context that you present in that saying is kind of falsy.
      As part of the wider context, the political Arab leader of Jerusalem at the time of WW2, the mufti, formerly an Otoman regional ruler or something like that, struck a close cooperation with Adolf Hitler approaching and during that time of WW2.
      You are misaccurate to the point of quite misleading. Also in Arab countries, the non-Muslim was always treated better (no tax to pay for being not muslim, allowed to practice worship in public and so on), and the last time that a Muslim country took in Jewish refugees to the best of my limited knowledge was when Turkey (not sure how it called itself back then) gladly took in much of the Jewish population exiled from Spain in one batch.
      In what is modern Israel, 2 million muslims live with full electoral and other rights, many of which serve in the army out of personal choice. They are represented in parliament and everything. It's better to have a two state (many-state, since Jordan is the same ethnic group mostly) and a regional peace than promoting a genocidal settlement which Hamas are. While dismantling Israeli settlements outside of its defined border at that time. If the region is ready, not when it is run by the war crime ideology of Hamas and the Qataris.
