Thank you for uploading this video, because Dell Inspiron N5110 is the first laptop I have when attending college. It's a friend that goes with me almost all of my youth time.
I have been using this laptop since 2012! Upgrade the HDD to SSD and 8GB RAM! I have left Windows 7 and on another partition installed Windows 10! At the beginning WIN 10 was not working properly, but after years of updates now is working like a charm! I am going to bay a new laptop next year in 2023, still waiting for DDR 5 RAM price go down, and that CPUs prices of Intel 12 gen and AMD be more reasonable! I like your channel, I heve been doing repares more then 30 years back. All the best and stay safe!
DAMMITT! Andrew never change! I absolutely love your work! i do the same with desktops and laptops and just get inspired by what you do! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!
Great job. I've never done an N5110, but I have done several slightly older machines, Dell Inspiron 1545s and an Inspiron 1764. The 1545 can have almost everything upgraded, but the T9900 is the best CPU it can handle. Glad you were able to get that oldie running again.👍
Awesome restoration once again Andrew ✊💪😇😉. I’m still rocking my original Win 7 Ultimate Edition Retail CD & Licence and I never bothered upgrading the Windows key to a newer version. I loved my Win 7 Ultimate and install it now and again just for nostalgia reasons 💪🥰. Love your work 🤯😇
It’s great to see your upload again, really loved what you’re doing!! Wished to do the same as you but unfortunately don’t know what to do to those laptops once done, love the videos you produced. Keep the great work up!!!
I was repairing a laptop last night similar to this and also had a screw not come out of the Wi-Fi card. They seem to be a more inferior quality screw than the rest of the laptop screws.
i have one and it’s running windows 10 and i gotta say that it’s not great at all cuz the laptop took 60 seconds to boot up to windows and open just 1 google tab took 20 seconds and if im open just 4 tab the laptop aready struggled so it’s best to keep it on windows 7😅
Hi bro, am planing to upload some failed projects but together with successful ones, because these failed in many cases are boring, mostly I stuck at repairing motherboard, even i have some where theoretically the motherboard is alive but is not starting 😀
another great job by Andrew, well done! I would like to ask on how you found out the damaged components on motherboard causing the windows turn off immediately. I do have one with the same problem, already sent to many technicians but they were not able to fix it
Hi bro, I'm using just usual things like multimeter, noting special, I check the value of the components, first I have repaired the power and then the resto of the motherboard
i have the same machine but the mother board is a goner but this machine served me for a ten year straight uni and work also gaming was my first laptop and i am glad i choose it
@Cat and Andrew this is my first laptop in 2014 passed on from my brother. He bought it in 2011 and did his bachelor thesis, I did mine, and my dad still uses it daily for Streaming in 2K. It runs Win10 and Ubuntu on SSD. He did upgrade the ram to 12gb but still uses i3 processor. Even though we have high gaming setups, all of us like the DELL n5110. It's a sentiment and every year along with all devices, it gets a cleaning and new thermal paste. In fact the only machine that still has a DVD RW drive at my home. It's now 11 years old i think.
i also has one but with an i5 and a smaller keyboard it belongs to my parents but they haven’t use it since 2016 i think and just left it in the dust until i found it again at 2018 non functioning ever since then it’s has a hard time cuz my brother like to punch the laptop screen and it’s now on my desk collecting dust cuz my brother switch over to a better laptop it’s great that your laptop is being take care of unlike mine😅
Nice work with this laptop, I re-watched this video for a repair and restoration I'm doing. Question, is it safe to clean the heatsink with soap and water, and then remove excess with compressed air?
Awesome video mann. I always enjoyed you giving new life to these old machines. Can you please recommend based on your experience which thermal paste is the best for gaming laptops? Also, in how many years should I change my thermal paste?
Hi bro, Arctic Silver and Thermal Grizzly or cheaper option Cooler Master Master Gel Pro. I use these types in gaming laptops or computers, also these are great for GPUs, laptop or desktop.
andrew do you have a tips or guide on how to unscrew a stuck bolt ? I had experiences where I fail at unscrewing cpu's shield two times... for some reason the bolt is always tight. I can't replace my thermal paste because of that. by the way, thankyou for the video, it always so therapeutic watching your video
Hi, I own this model but at the moment it's dead, really similar condition to the one shown in the video, not even charging, I'll try to follow instructions from the video and try to bring it back to life.
Glad to hear that you got it back up and running, though I don't like what Dell have done here. Why should you have to remove the display and motherboard in order to change the hard drive? Also Windows 7 would have been the OS that came with the machine. Windows 10 would work perfectly fine, and is still supported, but Windows 7 is still a good OS and can run some programs that Windows 10 can't.
I recently restored a similar Inspiron N5050. Just upgraded RAM from 6gb to 8gb (with what I had around) and, despite not upgrading the HDD to a SSD it's still snappy for regular, non-intensive use. Word of caution, updating to latest BIOS is a must if planning on installing Windows 10. If you get it without a boot drive or with a wiped one (as was my case), install either Windows 7 or 8, update BIOS and then install Windows 10
I do really miss Andrew saying 'before you clean this kind of displays, make sure no water passes the edge of the display. This may damage the entire display' Ahahah. 😂 Anyways, I really enjoyed the video bro. 😄 And noticed some parts on your sofa 👀✨Am excited for upcoming videos ❤️
10:15 Here at least i could manage to get windows 10 activated with a 7 key. Unfortunately, for me, it is not shown how to reconnect the flex cables, i could not manage, without some serious, modifying of the cables, and cutting aluminium part inside to bits, that project still in the works, so not sure about the outcome, though i am pretty positive. And this laptop's cpu upgradable, did not cross my mind even that a possibility, i just may do the same, not sure, but nice to know the option is there, knew there was some use in watching these video's.
I have the same laptop but the fan is spinning at 100% all the time, i changed the fan, updated the bios, replaced cmos battery but nothing works, do you have any idea? Really appreciate.
I just got this same laptop from a friend who moved. It doesn't boot up. The power light comes on, the 3 buttons on the top right light up, but then nothing happens. I changed out the button cell battery but still nothing. If there's a short, how can I find it? I'm interested in getting this working to pass on to someone who needs a basic computer for stuff like school work.
I have one like this exact same laptop but the Nvidia GeForce gt 525m doesn't read ram and the Bluetooth stopped working. How can I fix ? Love your videos ♥️
Those lids are interchangeable too (the red part) on the lower part of the back cover in the middle theres a button. Push that and that red lid slides off
I wonder if you might have an answer to question please....I have an old NEC VERSA M500 laptop....It was working (just) then it just died....Now when I switch it on all I get a a loud single continuous beep!...I have checked the ram...Both sticks taking htem out and trying single sticks at a time in each socket and still get the same beep when switching on. Unfortunately I have no other sticks to see whether both sticks have failed or not..as my other old laptop takes different ram...Its not booting to even the bios..just a blank screen and beep...I have tried looking online for a solution, but have not found an answer...I feel it might be the keyboard...But to be honest...spending money on it to repair is a waste as I could just buy a better second hand working laptop rather than waste money trying to get what is a very slow laptop working again...Looking at the cost of old replacement parts..its just not worth it...But if it's a fix I could do with out spending money..then great...If not..then its a dead duck...Your experience with laptop is far more extensive than mine..so I was hoping you may have had a similar problem and found a possible solution?...Anyway..thanks in advance.
Hey Andrew, I have a Compaq Presario CQ57 and i upgraded it by adding an SSD to it using the disc caddy, and now it is working all fast and smooth but the most major problem that i am facing now is that the laptop is overheating and shutting down very often i have cleaned the laptop and got it serviced with fresh thermal paste also but the problem continues. Also i have noticed that the fan is running slower according to me not making enough air flow. What should I do ? Please suggest.🙂
Nice work. I m find good to see you replace directly some electronics component out of order. Maybe you can show this for an other equipement like TV or washing machine and avoid the wastage... Nice work again and 96% alcohol :)! Bye
I have the same laptop with i7 CPU and dedicated gaphics GeForce 525m - 8GB Ram with SATA SSD. I play Valorant at full HD no problem at 70FPS. It is a great laptop. For thermals, I have cooling pad and used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste. CPU max at 85C and GPU at 75C while playing Valorant.
Finally my favorite 96% alcohol content haha
Cannot agree more 😂😂😂,
What i see, a '96% alcohol' gang member aswell
🤣
It’s a riddle, swap the 9 and the 6😳😳

Exactly that's why I love old and cheap laptop
I love watching these as I am a retired computer repair tech and from time to time I really miss the job. Your videos seem to help a lot. Thanks

would have liked to have seen how you diagnosed what was faulty in the laptop and then how you replaced the MOSFET.
Watching this on my N5110, which has been my sidekick since 2012 😁
Andrew my name is also Andrew and in the last two videos you've weirdly restored the same laptops I have restored and Im strangely freaked out.
Excellent content as always! greetings from Venezuela. I've been watching your channel since 2018.
just a tip if you need to fix chipped or broken plastics. Use some clay and superglue to fill in the hole and it will fix the problem for good.

Hello. Can you make a video on how you repair mother boards problems like replacing IC's. By the way, I love watching your videos awesome repairs ☺️❤️
You have done satisfied work 👍🏻. i have same Dell Laptop and updated with SSD AND RAM but the window 10 Graphics Drivers not Supported ?
the old one where you can put the processor out it just feel pretty good if you compare to the newer one
How did you see that you needed to change the two MOSFETs ? Were they burnt ?
Hi, I own this model but at the moment it's dead, really similar condition to the one shown in the video, not even charging, I'll try to follow instructions from the video and try to bring it back to life.
Una lastima que la barra espaciadora del teclado se vea mal , esta torcida o le falla el muelle inferior de sujeccion, por lo demas un gran trabajo.
Hi Andrew. Why did you install Win7 instead of Win10? Win10 performs best on older PCs with a 4 core CPU and 16GB of RAM.
