    Never thought I'd be watching videos on how to get rid of ring around the collar Ha. Us bachelors appreciate this 😅

    Great video Denise. I’m a Personal Banker and I pretreat the collar, armpit and the inside wrist section of all my dress shirts after each work day. I will try your process. I’ll keep you posted! By the way my mother shared this video to me. You’ve gained a new sub!

      Hey Guy, I just saw this comment. I am glad your mom shared this video with you. Yes, yes, yes. If you're a banker, your shirts have got to be pristine. Pretreating all the areas you mentioned is definitely a must. I've not found a better detergent on the hubby's shirts than Persil. I've experimented with a couple but decided not to risk it any more. It's Persil all the way. I'll explore other detergents on other clothing but not those! Do you have any other laundry challenges? What video can I make for you?

      Would you mind sharing how do you pretreat them and also do you then wash them altogether, having them sit for a few days

    This helped a lot. A trick I’ve learned, is to do this every-time you do the laundry, even if you don’t see any stains. Most of the time, collar stains are just a build up of dead skin cells that rubbed off of the neck.

    Thank you for this advice! It works. You just saved me hundreds of dollars on replacing shirts that get stained around the neck.

    Suggestion: use latex rubber gloves while applying any harsh chemicals… OxiClean, vinegar, peroxide, laundry detergents etc.

    If you know your laundry consists of a lot of whites and dress shirts consider getting a good brand front loader, they work perfectly the first time.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, I don’t care for front loaders because of the issue with the gaskets on the door. I’ve seen too many with mold. No thank you. I prefer top loaders.

    I’ve learned when your working with a stubborn stain, don’t use the dryer. The heat can make it harder to remove. The dryer can be used after the stain has been removed with satisfaction

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. Once the heat sets the stain it’s almost impossible to get out.

    My preferred washing liquid is Ariel and I use a little on a stain if needed. I find it very good on oily food stains. I've only rarely bought stain remover but this stick looks good on shirt collars. Thanks for sharing. I don't find Persil works the same. I use the Ariel colour liquid and the one for whites. I don't use a drier . I figure that because the central heating is on a lot in winter. I either hang the clothes on a rail or for towels I put them on radiators to dry . It stops the air being too dry and they dry in no time. I love it when I can put my clothes out to dry in the garden. My daughter and daughter in law use their dryers every day

      @homemakingwithdenise  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Margaret, thanks for watching and commenting. I like to hang clothes out in the garden during the summer, otherwise, like your daughters, I run the dryer every day. I do have a drying rack for things I don't put in the dryer. I'm not familiear with Ariel. I'll have to look it up!

      This and That with Denise Jordan We are in the UK. I know I can get it in Europe. I don't know about USA. It,s from Procter and Gamble .I can use 50 on dress shirts with a slow spin as long as they are not silk and I hang them in bathroom or where it's warm to dry.. It just seems a bother to have to wash them more than once. I use a front loader washing machine. When I was first married I had a top loader just like mom had. I found the clothes got creased up. My mother used to hand wash the things that would crease. We both changed to front loaders and they have programmes for delicates.When I think how many baby cardigans etc I washed by hand then. I had 3 babies in 4 years. I can even put silk in my machine nowadays Great video

    😉🤔hmm, this is how it works - put in the dirty shirt with the Oxi Clean application and remove a new shirt from the drier. Jokes apart folks, this product probably works but a simple household hack is to use Baking Soda with vinegar/lemon that you apply with an old toothbrush, let it sit for 10 min and then apply washing detergent and give it a rub. Hurrah you are done. It works

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      sayed mazhar I suppose this might work, too. Vinegar and lemon juice work for quite a few things. I’m beginning to explore more natural methods. I may give this a try. Thanks for stopping by. And all jokes aside, I did not swap out one short for a new. Hmmm. Unethical don’t you think? I’d never do that.

      Dear Denise,
      Actually, Oxiclean is a good product and recommended by many. The chemistry involved is somewhat similar as baking soda is nothing but sodium bi-carbonate which will get activated by the addition of some acid. Either should work, vinegar or lemon. Please don't feel uninitiated, I was simply making it amusing. Love your video

      I used a warm setting to wash the white shirts. I find if I try a hot setting the shirts tend to wrinkle and there's no time for that! I'm definitely going to look for that Ariel.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kujtime, Thank you so much for your question. Here’s the thing...you’ve got to sort your whites into two piles...soft whites and hard whites. Soft whites are key hubby’s white dress shirts, my under slips, and uniforms. Hard whites are white socks (you know how grubby socks can get, especially if children are running around with socks on but no shoes) white underwear, tee shirts, towels, and the like. Note, only the white dress shirts, fine lingerie, and my uniforms get washed together. Then, use a detergent with a built in whitener like a Persil, Tide, Arm and Hammer. You can add Borax to boost the whitening but be careful with bleach because it can cause whites to yellow. Use a fabric softener in the dryer and hang clothing up immediately. I’ll have the hangers waiting atop the dryer when the shirts come out. I hope this helps. What other laundry dilemmas do you have?

      Barbs Kittle I washed these shirts in warm water. I am cautious with bleach because it can turn them yellow so rarely use it. If I need additional whitener I use Borax. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hydrogen peroxide on the stains. It will lift the ring around the collar right out without hurting the fabric

    I like your video and I'm sure Oxi-Clean works well. However, I'm not happy with the increasing COST of those products. So, I'm still searching for a home made spray I can make that's cheap. One option is a solution of Peroxide, Baking Soda & Dawn dish detergent. Seems to work but you have to scrub more than with Oxi-Clean. I'm still testing that.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jim, this is timely. I just posted a video where I made a natural solution using vinegar. It's pretty cheap to make and works pretty well. Let's chat again after you see the video. I am very interesting in your laundry challenges. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/S4hfT7QMMPE/w-d-xo.html. Don't be misled by the video title. The cleaning solution I use works on ring around the collar as well. I've got another one that uses peroxide but no video just yet. The solution in this video works but if your collar rings are recalcitrant. you will have to scrub.
