Okay, seeing this video really helped But, please read the manual! On page 4 highlight #3 about adding an additional 3” to your estimated bag length. Bags can be washed and reused so go with the extra length. On page 5, highlight how to store the machine with the handle in the unlocked position. See Storing your Vacuum Sealer. On page 6 highlight the part about freezing the fruits and Blanche vegetables before packing. Also partially freeze meats before sealing. Also note that this extends the life of foods but does not preserve foods. Label everything with the date you packed it. I believe that if you read the manual, your Vacuum Sealer will last a lot longer. Thanks Adams Tech for getting me started. You did a good job giving me a visual about how it works.

I just got the Nesco VS-12 and it sat unopened for a month because I didn't want to read the instructions and have to learn yet another gadget. Tonight I had leftover roast chicken that I wanted to freeze so I had to use the vacuum sealer. I still didn't want to read the instructions so I found this video on TH-cam and all I have to say is... Thank you !!! It was short, sweet, and to the point. As for me, I am a fool for not wanting to learn this thing. It's super easy to use. You're awesome !!!

This. Was. Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. The instruction booklet that came with the machine was hard to follow… “See Figure One” was useless because “Figure One” was so poorly illustrated. Here on TH-cam, the videos available, even one full year after yours, fell into two categories- 1) one minute or so of shots of the machine with graphics pointing out the various features, complete with crappy music in the background, or 2) looonnnggg (45 minutes+) of some lady who apparently needed to show us the origin story of her butternut squash: unloading the groceries from her car, talking about where she got the stuff, how much she got, and how much she paid for the squash. She sounded nice and seemed sincere in wanting to help folks get the most bang from their food budget buck, but there’s a time and a place for everything. I just wanted to seal a bag, didn’t have time for anything else.
So, like I said, yours was perfect- for me anyway. Concise, super-informative, easy to follow. Speaking of which, I’m gonna hit “Send,” re-play this video, and seal right along with it. Thanks again!

Thanks for this very useful video! I never had a vacuum sealer before, so the instructions that came with the machine missed the part of explaining that it's a two step process. Watched your video and a few minutes later I sealed up a few burgers that had my home grown peppers mixed in - freezing them up for a camping trip and ready to cook at the site:) Now that I understand it, I think I'll find a lot of use for this machine. Thanks again!

A few years ago we bought the Food Saver from QVC and just recently it started to fail in completely removing all the air from some items while being completely sealed for others. They all appeared to have all air removed and even when I tugged on the bag around the food. but when I took out a steak or chicken breast to thaw for dinner, one would have allowed air to enter the bag. Odd because I could not locate any leaks by pressing down on the bag.
Anyway, America's Test Kitchen was testing current vacuum sealers and the Nesco VS 12 was their winner for ease of use and not losing vacuum, and even purchased them for the chefs working there. So I bought one and it just arrived today, 08/31/2022. Very easy to use.

The most important thing is to not close entirely when you store it. The heating element strip will get ruined over time. Also...the handle moves. The handle should be down when storing and Up when closing to use.

Trimming a paper towel to put down inside the well (where the top of the bag goes) makes clean up much easier, should any juices end up in there.

Thanks for the video. The instructions that come with it are pretty awful. One thing to note is if you are sealing meat or anything that has moisture your should partly freeze it first. I just did a pork loin, put it in the freezer till it was pretty firm then took it out and cut it in half. I should have then taken it out of the bag it came in and froze it solid. It seemed to seal ok but there was still quite a bit of moisture. I cut a second pork loin into 1" slices and am going to freeze them till solid then package with 2-3 per package.

I know i'm way out here in left field but if your going to make a how to video you should take a couple of minutes to READ THE EFFIN INSTRUCTIONS FIRST!! It seems to work ok but it takes so long you'd better set aside the better part of an entire day to seal more than one item.

  • @jmlorenzobservations5802

We use our FoodSaver daily, often more than once. We re-close all chip bags (Sam's club shoppers) and have seal containers that can be vacuumed. There is a port on ours (Game Saver SIlver, obsolete now). We also use mason jars and vacuum dry items in them (nuts, yeast, crackers, etc.) Nuts that were overlooked for 12 months were fresh. We almost never throw out food. I had pie cherries in the freezer for 5 years and they tasted fresh in the pie they became, as if the came off the tree.
Your bag creations to me was barbaric. I do not know about current models, but on ours we pull out the future bag to the desired length and do a manual seal. While it is sealing, slide the cutter across. So much easier than to seal the bottom of the bag first. Very little waste. Ours does not do a double seal but it is about as wides as your double seal. If for some reason I suspect the seal may have an imperfection (fold in the bag) I simply do a second seal outside from the first, making sure if there was a minor fold it is not folded under the 2nd seal.
