    Tip: put really juicy products in the bag & freeze it for a few hours first, then take it out of the freezer & vacuum seal it. That way, no fluids are transferred into your machine bcuz they will already be frozen ☺

      Lia, I see your point but I don't have the freezer space and sometimes the time to put things in the freezer first. However, I will keep this in mind and see how it works sometime in the future. I'd love to keep all the juice from being sucked into my machine.

      @@homemakingwithdenise For juicy meats, I have been known to take a cheap paper towel and put it along the top of the bag before sealing. Soaks up the juice and keeps it out of the machine but also isn’t touching the meat. Food saver (or someone else.. can’t remember honestly) used to make a bag with a built in absorbency strip which is what gave me the idea.

      I was thinking the same thing. If for some reason it was able to suck the air out of the inner zip locks bags then this defeats the purpose of not contaminating the more expensive outer bag. So either way this is not a good strategy or tip. In my opinion, it is best to just use vacuum bags. I do appreciate her review of the two vacuum sealers.

      But how did you get the air out of the bag inside of a bag that seems like you defeated the purpose of vacuuming out the air I don’t understand I just got me a vacuum packing machine I guess it’s an off brand but it was 50 bucks and it holds gallon size freezer bags and all know it doesn’t have the meat drippings tray it has a sponge around it so I guess that would be considered the same thing but it does have a little tray there that you can clean but you can’t take it out but if you use a Ziploc bag inside of a freezer bag does that not defeat the purpose of vacuum packing because I am not doing this yet I just received the machine today and I went to learn how to use this machine on TH-cam and to me I just wanna know how you know that that’s going to actually vacuum out of both bags or does just vacuuming the outer bagIs all that counts

    Only problem with using the that cheaper bag for your chicken is that you're defeating the purpose of the vacuum seal, since that cheaper bag won't be sealed tightly to the chicken meaning there's air in that bag, so it's prone to freezer burn. So in that example anyway, you're trading protection against freezer burn for the ability to reuse the foodsaver bag..

    • @hoofhearted4
      @hoofhearted4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      instead of double bagging, couldnt you just wash the bag like you would dishes? You can reuse for same meats if youre worried about residual flavor contamination or something. i havent used my sealer yet so this is a legit question.

    • @chrisjones1849
      @chrisjones1849 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hoofhearted4 you could probably do that a couple or so times, but kind of like w/ plastic water bottles that get reused over and over even with just water, the plastic may start to absorb "flavor" and leach that back into other food that gets stored in it. I think you could certainly do it a couple or so times though - not a bad idea especially if you reuse it for the same food.

    • @rackets001
      @rackets001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@hoofhearted4 My parents have been using foodsaver bags and reusing them as they cut the seals off and the bags get smaller and smaller. Just turn them inside out and wash like other plastic dishes! Unless you enjoy throwing away your money.

      Hi BlueGrassBound. I got a few people take me to task about reusing bags so here's the thing. You cannot reuse the bags if protein, like meat, has been placed in it. So, I had been packing the meats in a cheaper bag and then vacuum sealing in the good bags. Several viewers have advised me that this practice reduces the effectiveness of the vacuum sealing so I no longer do this. You can decide for yourself how you want to proceed. I just got my Nesco VS 12 sealer last week. I see mine appears little different at the sealing heat strip as it has a heat resistant covering on the heat strips and the bags don't stick or melt to the heat strips as it appeard your model did. Today I used it for the 1st time for ribs that I'm going to sous vide cook tomorrow. You gave me some great new ideas for the bulk cereal. Thanks!

      The heat seal elements should be covered by a brown tape to keep the plastic bag from contacting the elements directly. The tape is called ‘Kapton tape’ and you can buy it and replace what’s missing.
      I Have seen people remove it thinking it was there for shipping, like the clear sheet over a display screen.

    what about the most important part for many of us? In my testing after going out and buying a nesco to replace my worn out foodsaver based on everyone's recommendations, I found that the nesco takes 30-34 seconds to vac and seal the same thing that the foodsaver can do in only 23 seconds. The time difference goes way up when you do something larger in something like a pleated bag.
    Who cares about count downs or flashing lights or poofs. I care about wasting time.

    You're missing the point of a vacuum sealer. You are sealing, but not vacuum sealing. What you're doing can be accomplished with a freezer Zip-Lock bag. You need to get the air out, that's what vacuum sealing is.

    • @joshuajones5966

      She is never closing the first bag, so the air is still sucking it out of the first bag as well, when the vacuum sucks the air out it tightens the zip loc, if that zip loc is open, the air will get pushed out as the bag tightens, which would then be sucked out of the vacuum seal bag. I thought the same thing as well
