    I have been using the Nesco for about 2 years now. I go to Costco and I’m a single male so there is a lot of food here that I need to preserve. You mentioned everything perfectly. I may get a chamber once the nesco dies on me. I love preparing meals throughout the week with it. Also thanks for explaining the other buttons on the nesco.. I haven’t use some of them.

    This is a GREAT video!!! The only thing is the information about bags... I'm not an expert, but I use "smooth" bags all the time. As long as they are meant to heat seal, I haven't had any trouble. I have not tried to seal liquids. Just meat and dry goods. Thank you for your work in putting together such a great video.

    Thanks. One of the best how-to videos for this make and model. Clear and concise. I bought this machine for sous vide, not for storage, although I will marinade various meats and fish with this unit, after portioning out smaller pieces from a large piece, then freeze them for future use. I made some asparagus today using it. I thought I got most of the air out but it kept floating to the top in my hot water bath. So, a bit disappointed in that, but it was my first try so maybe it will work better in the future.

    I own one of these as a back up, but my go to is a vacuum chamber sealer. The big drawback to this one it requires a cool down period after each bag. Volume processing is slower that most machines. The cost of bags for a regular sealer catches you up with the initial cost of the vacuum chamber sealer quickly. In general I have also found that the useful life of the standard machine is pretty short, I've gone through several, the vacuum chamber sealer seems to be built to an industrial standard.

    • @TikkiOOO
      @TikkiOOO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tips, and I agree with you, the vacuum chamber is the way to go! But its so big, bulky, and heavy, that's the only drawback. I can't easily move it from room to room, or store it in a pantry and then take it out easily. Thanks for the comment jamesnelson!

      @@TikkiOOO You are right about the weight and size, I just have a permanent spot on the counter, as I use it so often. I prep a lot and dehydrate lots of stuff and seal it in Mylar. The other important use I have for it is extending the life of various meats. There is a meat market nearby that has very good prices on bulk meat. Examples are a whole ribeye for $6.99/lb, ten lbs of irregular cur bacon for 16.99/box, chicken leg quarters $7.90/lb and so on. My freezers are full and it is just me, so vacuum sealing the meat extends the life 2 to 3X in the refrigerator saving me much money.

    Thank you for the review, I am considering purchasing one and have been reading up on the reviews
    In regards to the weird bag measurements it is most likely due to fact that most things are designed and marketed using the metric system, even by USA manufacturers (95% of world uses metric)
    Equivalent to 21cm x 300cm and 30cm x 300cm

    • @TikkiOOO

    just a small point out - the "odd" length of the bag rolls - 9.85 ft - is 3 meters. As this is a China produced item and metric measures are standard there (and as this is a product sold worldwide) seems likely they set their bag rolls for 3 meters, but updated their US documentation to show feet for ease of understanding.

    • @mrkraemer77722
      @mrkraemer77722 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct. The rolls (and individual bags) are typically measured in centimeters - 9.85 feet is 300 centimeters or 3 meters. 8.6 inches is an approximation of 22 centimeters, and 11.8 inches is an approximation of 30 centimeters.
      If you buy bags or rolls online, you might see either measurement system, or occasionally both.

    I recently bought this model, and I really like it. My first try was sealing pecans and walnuts that I buy in bulk at Sam's. I hoped you would have sealed a loaf of banana bread or similar. I will probably have to use the Manual Pulse (red button) so as not to destroy the loaf, and in regards to the 11"x 50' plastic roll, the only problem I would see with that roll is that (and I'm not certain ) I wonder if it would prevent the lid from closing and locking. Of course, I could always cut the piece of the roll outside the machine. Thank you very much for your excellent demonstration.-Jose

    The problems you were having getting bags in place to cut, seal, or vacuum were mainly caused by you putting the bags "upside down" so to speak. The bags are curved. Put the bags on the Sealer and in the Vacuum slot with the bags curved downwards and it will be a lot easier and work a lot better. Laying them down curved upwards causes the bags to come away from where you want them.

    To compare the level of vacuum between the two types, perhaps toss one of the finished product into the chamber vac and see if the bag swells during the vacuum step. ...Too bad you can't hook the two together and let them fight it out :D

    • @knewledge8626
      @knewledge8626 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Same. Amazon has a jar sealer and in their "frequently bought together" section they combine it with this product. Looking at the information it says in bold print that one of those attachments doesn't work with this product which, since it doesn't list this product on the other attachments would indicate that none of them do. So then why bundle it with this product? Kinda seems insane to me.😁

Had I seen this before I purchased, I would've purchased differently. :( The Nesco is "okay" but, its way slower and more cumbersome to work with (my hands are a problem). The bags need to be cut slightly larger than my foodsaver which to me, is a waste. And the window, a completely useless feature.

    How loud is it when its working? It didn't sound too loud in the video. The small foodsaver machine I have is loud and it vibrates on the counter a little. When I wear out the one I have now, I may look into getting one of these. On a side note, I bought a Nesco digital canner. Love it. it's all automated and I don't have to stand over it to watch the pressure. It'll only do 3 quarts or 4 pints at a time, but thats fine for the two of us as I don't do huge batches of canning at a time anyway.

    • @TikkiOOO
      @TikkiOOO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its not that loud, and only for the time its vacuuming, which is not long. I was filming in my basement work area and we had torrential rain, so our sump pump kept going on while I was filming, and that was much louder! I saw the digital canner on Amazon, it looks like a much easier way to can, except that it only does small batches. But for two people, that looks perfect! I'm going to look into that....thanks for the tip Genevieve!

  • @TomBTerrific
    @TomBTerrific 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Nobody talks about the learning curve.First off the bag roller compartment is nice to have but it doesn’t keep the smaller bag in place. Secondly it seems that the seal is intentionally far from the edge of the bag which over time can prove to be wasteful of bag usage. Bad for user but good for manufacturers. My sealer seems to cut the bag material better going right to left. Also you have to lift the arm after each cut to move the next bag under the cutter another dumb design. Seems it should cut both ways equally well. The Initial seal I tried to make was a challenge because the seal bag has memory and wants to roll on you. Why nobody mentioned this is not understandable to me and lacks details prospective buyers should know. I’m guessing all these bags from all manufacturers are the same way. After making the first seal you have to fill the half sealed bag with whatever you’re wanting to seal. My first attempt was turkey leftovers that I carved into random slices. It was a challenge to put things into the bag without touching the seal area at the opening of the bag. Why the manufacturer doesn’t make a simple funnel type device like I ended up doing is beyond me. I started wiping the opening after filling the bags to minimize any contamination on the seal surface. The first bag I sealed didn’t seal well. I was using double seal with higher suction. There was moisture in the seal that caused it not to seal 100%. I had several other partial seal from moisture from the turkey. My turkey isn’t that moist. So when I use this for steak I’m guessing I have the same issue. Maybe I need to use the lighter suction setting. Again I’m still learning. This unit isn’t expensive but it’s not exactly cheap either. I’m a little disappointed that sealing food isn’t easier.
