Dia is muire dhuit, Budget Magic lovers, it's that time once again! As we wait for Dominaria to officially release so we can start exploring the new Standard format, this week we are heading to Modern to play a deck that's looking to go super wide super fast: Mono-White Leyline Tokens! Unlike some tokens decks that are hoping to get the job done with 1/1's, our deck is built to not only play a ton of tokens in the early game, but as many token anthems as possible with not just the traditional Intangiable Virtue but the potentially free Leyline of the Meek as well! Can a mono-white build of tokens compete in Modern with the help of a ton of powerful anthems and the new Rivals of Ixalan addition Legion's Landing? 'Jorga'. You mean Jo-ra-ga? The hardest matchup for Seth is literacy.
I feel like you could've gotten away with running Sundering Growth over Disenchant, especially since it gives you another token

I actually just searched the comments to see if anyone mentioned this yet. +1 for sure. I always play sundering growth in mono white over disenchant, never know when I get a token from an opponent. Card is basically as budget as budget gets too.

The only issue I could see is blood moon making some of your lands not tap for a white, but I think the upside definitely makes Sundering Growth better.
Personally I would run Honor of the Pure with Thraben expector instead of Cat intangible to have some form of card draw. This deck needs some form of card advantage. Edit: Windbrisk Heights could also be worth it, comes into play tap, but is instantly turned on by spectral procession.
Pride of Conquerors would be an excellent card to consider for the deck, as it's easy for you to get the City's Blessing and blow people out with +2/+2 for your whole team at instant speed for just 2 mana.

What about two or three Mirror Entity for late game threats so you can overrun your opponents with tokens? It's a dollar rare btw

Some years ago I made a mono green token deck (token without abilities mind you), with Gaea's Anthem & Muraganda Petroglyphs to pump them up; Harmonize & Gaea's Balance to keep on drawing token spells... This gameplay makes me want to update it!
You've been on a streak lately. Putting up records with janky decks. Love the content, keep it up!
It feels like Modern is converged to the point where anything that gets by the normal removal/hate cards has a good chance of working.
There's certainly some luck involved, but I won't complain :)

Yeah, maybe more Storm hate in the sideboard is with it, especially with Eggs making a return.

Also might I suggest doomed traveler as the 1 drop? You don’t have to pay mana to get the token and it’s a flyer

Honestly with modern storm winning through thalia isn't too hard. Cost reduction creatures help. But yea they were under no pressure from those tokens. Basically dumped their hand for nothing.

BTw Seth, why ar ewe not playing Sundering Growth over Disenchant ? the double cost seems like a nonissue in this deck and the free populate seems very nice ! :)
No Timely Reinforcements in the board? Seems like that would have helped against Burn in round 2 - or at least forced them to have exactly Skullcrack in hand.

That deck looks like my spicy polymorph deck. Make a ton of mana, then suddenly, Emrakul.
Monowhite versus Storm has Lapse of Certainty, Dawn Charm, Judges Familiar, Mana Tithe, and technically Rebuff the Wicked, which is bad.
I love his excitement and joy at beating storm however as multiple people have pointed out the opponent was likely new to storm. I feel wins like that should come with a disclaimer explaining what the opponent could have done better so new players don't see that and expect it to be common.
I honestly dont think your sideboard was well thought out for modern lol
Storm = Eidolon of Rhetoric is 1,24 i think one or two in the sideboard against storm would not hurt the budget at all
Burn = Timely Reinforcements is 0.08 and its on token theme!!!!
Bogles = Blessed Alliance is 0.18 (I love this card, is also good against burn btw, 2 cards in one lol i srsly love this card ^-^)
Modern is solved, this deck is god tier xD You never feel like you're winning but you are ! xD

Its possible...but if I were a betting man, I would put money on the idea that Seth did the editing for Against the Odds, Much Abrew and Budget Magic on the same day back to back, so it was likely just a simple oversight. Who wants to sit there and watch 3+ hours of content you just spend like 6+ hours editing...not me. Could be wrong, but it wouldnt surprise me if that was the case as these vids are all pre-scheduled to go live at 8pm on various days throughout the week.
ErroneousClique it's just that this is a daily thing making blatant mess ups. Not a big deal because overall the content is good, its just annoying to see someone not getting any better with fixing said mess ups after making videos for so long.
Fair enough. I just take it easy on him because he puts out a lot of content consistently and that is not an easy thing to do for many people. If Seth is known for anything though, it is for his glorious punts. It gives his content character. :-P
I always thought convoke only reduced the cost by 1 colourless, you can pay for the WW part of Triplicate Spirits by tapping creatures too?

To be fair, that elves deck was extremely budget as well.
Against Bogles, you could have just kept attacking. They can block only 1 creature, and you have a 2 turn clock. The more you wait, the worse.

Is Sacred Cat really ever better than Doomed Traveller?
What about having that white uncommon escalate card that makes them sac an attacking creature, target player gains 4 life and 1 other mode I can't remember. Seems good against boggles, deaths shadow, and I'm sure other matchups

You may also use doomed traveler on this deck
Doomed Traveler could easily replace Sacred Cat.

Timely might be worth it in the sideboard, Elspeth is just a lot of mana for the amount of lands we have in the deck.
Why Disenchant when there is Sundering Growth? We are in mono-white
that storm player's game 1 is the most embarassing thing i've ever seen in my life.
Rule of law in the board? Honor of the pure in the main? Both of those are only 2-3 bucks.
which budget modern deck would you say is the most competitive
I'm surprised no Sram's expertise. I get Anointed Processions in Modern might be 2 slow, but the ability to cast stuff for free after Expertise should make it good enough I thought. Oh well
Modern just has such good token makers that it's hard for Sram's Expertise to keep up. Casting stuff for free is swee though.
Would Doomed Traveler be better than Sacred Cat? You miss out on the Lifelink, but the token on death is free and flies. The deck looks super fun btw. Thanks for showing it.
I don't think so. You don't get to control when you get the token like you do with Cat and he usually had 1 mana left over anyway. Plus he's got enough air support; the game where his opponent randomly has the Hurricane would be brutal.
I'm right in the middle on Cat vs. Doomed Traveler. I have no idea which is better, honestly.

What would you cut for some Benalish Marshals in this deck? Could be a great addition once Dominaria comes out
Spectral Procession is what you cut, but Marshal seems even more questionable.

I expected to see an annointed procession or two, like I know white is pretty sad at ramping to 4 mana quickly but it'd be a nice later game drop to make the weaker token generation really kick out a mass of bodies

Quinn Reynolds yeah I meant mainly for sideboard I didn't mean in main. Like going against control could really help build after a wipe later in the game when the weaker token creation like embalming kitties n stuff just don't really do much for the board
Also I know it is janky af in a lotta situations but a mana tithe could have been an amazing sideboard swapout for his boggle matchup
Anointed Procession is really weird in Modern tokens decks (even discounting that it's weirdly expensive from Standard), because most of our token production is happening on turns one, two and three, and then Anointed Procession comes down after.
MTGGoldfish The main reason it is as expensive as it is cause it's used quite frequently in commander and in the vampire decks kicking around standard still. But yeah I see this is a very fast deck that why it'd be good as just a sideboard option cause it seemed there were points where the deck kinda just popped off a couple tokes and had a bunch of mana open doing nothing in the later rounds. I just thought as maybe a 1 or two of in the sideboard as just a quick way to push out more in longer games wouldn't be bad. Say you drop it turn 4 and already have about 3 or 4 tokens its enough to stall for a turn and chump most big hitters or just swing in for damage if the board is in your favor. Then turn 5 drop any of the 2 drop token makers and get 4 soldiers then a flashbacked souls for 4 spirits then covoke into a triplicate spirits filling up your board with 6 more fliers so that's goin from 4 tokens to a total of 18 as opposed to 11 so that's 7 extra bodies that wouldn't have been there equivalent of about 3 token generator spells.

have you ever made an all black exile deck. creatures are exiling spells are exiling. just exile stuff. I have one. great for all decks. but slow.
We've played something like that in Standard (back when Ulamog first came out) but not in Modern.
You should try it in Modern. So many spells that allows for not naming.

ive been playing a very similar build of this deck since last year and ive never had a streak like that. wow seth has the bad beats.

We've played some, it's a pretty big downgrade, but it can work with something like Declaration in Stone.
Oh. I meant like with no interaction at all. I know at one point storm stopped running bolts for instance. Their only interaction was remand because it cycled and I think later they added echoing truths. I guess you need the path to disrupt more synergistic combo decks than monowhite though. But with storm, when your deck is one of the most combo decks, you just try to go off and leave the disruption to your opponent.

Matthew Williamson Yes of course, storm relies on playing many spells in one turn to have a high storm count and kill with grapeshot. Rule of law makes the entire strategy useless!

Aethersworn cannoist is good, but it dies to bolt, RIP and relic are good against storm but not an auto win. Damping sphere from dominaria wil hose both storm and tron(Feels good man)

It's admittedly not very likely against Boggles, but keeping the real cat on-board is useful if they had removal or especially a sweeper. That way you're not entirely draw-dependent to refill your board. Certainly more useful than attacking for 1, even with the lifelink.

Maybe it was worth going all out. Was thinking that we didn't want to lose a creature with Shefet Dunes coming online the next turn, but maybe that was too conservative.
Just makes for lethal to be worth it. In the end both lines lose to the dreaded life gain auras tho haha.

I think it's really close. Lifelink is actually pretty beneficial, although Cat has the downside of costing an extra mana, not really sure which is better overall.

also note: Sacred cat's non embalmed form is a bit of a nonbo with your anthems, you could run a split of honor the pure and intangible virtue to offset the weirdness with the cat.
