I feel the same way about the room with the Chalet. I have to make a chair pad thing. That is cool the pad is still holding air. Great video man! Oh that cool, the stove in the outside pocket.
The chair pad works! Well! That is the beauty of a packable stove kit that only weighs 3.2lbs! I absolutely love this stove. The Chalet....not so much haahahaha

Definitely some beautiful countryside. And that was definitely a funny looking bottle of tea. Glad to see you’re new you’re starting out on a positive note have a great evening
Thanks for your honest thoughts on your Pomoly hot tent. I was starting to think that all Pomoly gear was 100% perfect……..I say that because there’s so many TH-camrs that got sent some free gear from them and we’re given great reviews. Anyways thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.

Great video. See your point about crowded in there, even sans stove. Thanks again for helping people decide. There are alot of these tents being sold leaking too

Depressing snow in the north east so far. Looks like you had a little something. I’m up here just waiting. Lots of equipment ready, staring out the window. Nice scenery.
Great video, you have some excellent content and appreciate the look at the Chalet 70. I have one on the way and I have a feeling my thoughts will agree with you on the size. I really do like the old school design though....still for the weight it would be nice to have it a bit larger. Cheers to you good sir, see you around the schoolyard.
Beautiful place !! I have never been to NH. Great video !!! I thought the same thing about the Chalet when I first saw it, about it being a little small. I sent you a facebook message from my personal account with a question, however I answered the question already....LOL
Good work bud!! Im glad to see you and Spackmann talk about this. It looked intriguing for a minute. I really need to hang out with you. Hot tents, Hilltop, and so much more in common dude!
Yes we do need to get together sometime. Speaking of which.....as of about 5 minutes ago dates have just been confirmed....you will be hearing from me soon man! Hilltop Packs rocks!!!
My wife just got me the Mountain Cattle Tipi tent and I'm stoked to use it. I'm 6'1" and when I stand in it I still have a foot and a half of head room 👍 Great video and Happy new year
Looks like the Pemigewasset Wilderness Trail. I did a winter X-C ski trip there years ago. Great trail to get away from the roads, and the snow mobiles pack the snow down when it gets deep, making it easy to get out there. Great trip. Thanks for the tip on the tent. I think that I will get a pyramid tent if I get a hot tent. Have you looked at the Seek Outside tents? I like to buy US manufactured gear whenever possible. Thanks for another adventure!👍👊
You are close.....I have to say though, in the 15 or so years I have been frequenting that area, I have never, not once seen a snowmobile out there , or even a snowmobile track for that matter. But it is flat and well used, making travel easy. I have had my eye on Seek Outside tents for years. I would really like one, but the price is hard to justify. I will end up with one eventually, I'm sure o f it. I absolutely love their stove
@@ItsGoodintheWoods I have a winter hammock tarp in DCF. I thought about putting a stove jack in it, but DCF apparently melts easily. I would like a hammock tarp with a stove jack, made in the USA, but I think that a teepee shape helps prevent condensation. Maybe there's a Venturi effect that accelerates the airflow from bottom to top when heat is introduced at the bottom. I'm surprised how much condensation I get under my tarp with the doors buttoned up. The lack of a full floor allows ground moisture to rise up and condense on the underside of the tarp in temperatures near and below freezing, especially when it's pitched down to the ground.
Fun watching both takes lol. I mentioned on Craigs video I thought I recognized that spot. Sure, do now. Didn't make a video but camped there in the winter as well. So peaceful by the river there. Was actually thinking I might return to that area or spot in a week or two for my first winter overnighter of the season to test the mettle of some new budget gear lol.
Excellent trip and review. I was looking at the Chalet 70 and Minipeak XL around December…I decided to go with the Minipeak XL based on your review. After watching this video, I definitely made the better choice. It’s a great tent and it came with the inner tent for a fantastic price. I appreciate your honest opinion. Cheers 🍻
You absolutely made the right choice. I can't quite wrap my head around the thought process of this tent. Small, heavy, a complex pitch with too many stake out points....there are so many better options out there today. I am very happy that the content of this channel helped you in that decision. That is one of the main reasons I make these type of videos. To give honest specs and details, sprinkled with a bit of my opinion from the experience I have with them, to help people decide what will work best for them. Too many people are getting gear for free and singing its praise. While options are good, and everyone has their opinion, this tent is far outperformed by other options in the same price range. I would not recommend this tent to anyone. This tent is going to burn a lot of sleeping bags LOL
Another good, Informative video Justin ! Thanks ! I just got a Superior Gear winter Hammock set up based on a review from Tim @ “Backpacking with Buckley” and hope to use it in the next few weeks but I think a hot tent might also be in my future and based on your recommendation I would opt for the MiniPeak XL. Good honest gear reviews are just another of the many reasons I enjoy your videos. Here’s looking forward to a great 2022 for us all. Cheers !
Tim is a good dude! Funny! I would like a hammock set up like that. But historically I don't sleep well in a hammock. I can't bring myself to spend all that money on a system and possibly not like it. I need to get my hands on one to try .... Can't go wrong with a MPXL! A fantastic tent A Happy new year to you and yours!
Going the Hammock route is a pretty big leap of faith for me too Justin, but I had to give it a try cuz after my kayak trip on the CT River and camping on that little island, I realized me and the ground just don’t get along like we used to but I want to keep camping and doing more backpacking. Maybe investing in a better pad would have been a wiser and a whole lot cheaper option but I’ve always liked the idea of the hammock so I jumped in with both feet. If I don’t like it maybe I’ll do a giveaway or find some youngster who wants to get into hammock camping. Hopefully I’ll like it cuz I got another Island camping collab planned for this Fall up on Umbagog th-cam.com/video/oAHkBuwrklk/w-d-xo.html
We finally have winter weather in Pennsylvania. Yesterday it was 60 degrees. Today it was 28. We have possible snow in the forecast for Thursday and Friday. I'm heading into the woods on Friday
Love the flask in the opening. I've got one very similar. (repurposed Jim Beam plastic bottle w/labels removed) I love that those flasks are pre-filled. ;-) I agree, Hilltops packs is great! I love my food bag from them. Plus I just received a GC so I get to pick something else out from them. :-) Man that steak looked good! Cooked to the perfect doneness. Love the groundsheet on my chair. I suspect it's even more important for use in the snow. Long live the pad patch! Awesome outing. I need to get out again soon.
The repurposed Jim Beam bottle is a great idea! Mine is a Nalgene that is probably 3 times heavier LOL. And yours is pre filled !!! Score on the HP gift card! What a great gift. That steak was incredible man! Perfection! The groundsheet for the chair is an awesome mod and Long live the patch! I hear we have good wintery weather on the way for the weekend....may you get some too!
Oops, didn't realize that nalgene made a flask. I saw someone else reuse a smaller 200 ml fireball bottle and thought it was a great idea. They come prefilled and you can refill them with something better if you choose.
Thank you. I can see where people might think it would be a good tent for kids....but.....I don't think it would be good for kids at all. On top of being small, it is heavy for its size, and there are a lot of motions required for set up. There are a lot of tents out there that are lighter, easier to set up and offer more space. I really do think this one to be a dud when compared to other options out there.
@@ItsGoodintheWoods no no no that's not what i meant lol. I would take that out in the back yard and set it up for my grandkids to sleep in if they wanted to. Not for them to set up lol.
Well done video as always 👍. Not much else to say about the tent. Honest review on your part. Perhaps if it was larger it might work. At least the scenery was beautiful.
I thought the same, maybe if it were larger...but, then it would be even heavier. Making it much much heavier than other tents with the same , similar or even more space. I think it to be a bad design, easily outperformed by other options.
I need to get myself a Craig to get camp setup before I get there! 😂 The Pomoly Chalet 70 did look really tight for a stove, but I think I'd rock that tent on a lightweight canoe trip. That said, I'm glad I did get the Minipeak XL. I'll get out in it for the first time if we ever get snow..... Good idea with the groundsheet for the chair legs too bud. 👍
This tent weighs almost 6 lbs. It weighs 1.5lbs more than the MPXL. There is nothing lightweight about this tent, except its design and function. Better off in every way with the MPXL
Man, that tent is tiny. To me that's just a knee killer. Tooooo small! Might be good for a child. LOL! Good stuff Justin. Thank you! Personally, I think I'm going to go for the Pomoly Manta. Tons of space in that thing.
Dude ! I had no idea there was that much condensation in that tent ! Holy cow ! You did give that tent a good look, more than most can say. I think I would agree with you, that Chalet seems a bit small. Regardless, great times ! Always a good time in the woods ! See you soon man !
Almost 6 lbs of single wall cramped space, garbage. It was fun to use. It is the only real way to know. I'm probably using it wrong, it's all about the skillz hahahahahahaha Always a great time man! See you on the next one
Loving it.. set camp and get drunk! I do that too sometimes, when the time, the place and the company is right! Btw i hear, that the tent leaks... :( Let us know
What an adventure! You looked cold! I have a question, when you put your cold boot in your bag at night dose that not keep you cold all night? I have a suggestion with your tent lol. You could sent it to your friend over here in northern Cali to use for my first snow camping next month. Js haha. Great video!
When I put my boots in my bag, it only takes a few minutes for me to generate enough heat to be comy. I hardly notice it. If it is actually real cold out, I will boil water, put it in a nalgene and put that down with the boots. Works wonders. The extra work and time is worth it when you are putting on nice warm boots in the morning. Try it. Thank me later LOL. I put all kinds of stuff in my bag with me. , the next days clothes, socks I want to dry out, batteries, head lamps.....whatever I need to keep warm or dry out (socks, gloves, hats). In the bag it goes I would send you the tent, but I worked out other plans for it yesterday. sorry
Great video. Looks like a fun time. Thanks for the honest review of the Chalet. I wonder if the Stovehut might have been a better choice, for that style tent, and given you more room?
I looked at the stove hut. Thought about it and held back. It looks cool, but I wasn't quite sold on the overall design. Too many valleys and angles for my liking, and the weight. It is much too heavy for what I am looking for. Thank you for watching and commenting. Much appreciated
@@ItsGoodintheWoods Yes I know, I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB Rapid City SD and it was sooo cold in the winter time. Summers were extremely hot too. Lol
Great video Justin! Thanks for the review of the tent, glad I bought the MiniPeak XL. I'm just saving up some dough for my first stove and I am leaning towards the Pomoly Signature Series LoneWolf with the glass sides (4.4lbs) so I am not carrying much more weight than if I was to carry fuel and cook stove. Which stove were you packing on this one? I also want to get a Hammock Hot Tent and the OneTigris looks like it has more room than the Pomoly. I am not in a hurry to get it and will look at some more opinions before I make up my mind but I like room.
Good choice on the MPXL! Congrats. That is a nice stove, just keep in mind, that weight is for the stove alone. I bet it's close to 2 lbs heavier with the pipe and carry case. I have the Pomoly Traveler stove. Claimed weight 3.3 lbs. The stove is right on the money, 3.3lbs. But the whole set up weighs 5 lbs. On this trip I was carrying my Seek Outside Large titanium stove. It's an awesome stove. Bigger than the stove you are considering, and half the weight. The whole kit, everything you need for use, is 3.2 lbs. I put in a glass door, that brings the weight up to 3.6 lbs. It is awesome. Room is good. I was looking at that onetigris you speak of, That thing looks large. I am considering it as well, but it is currently out of stock.....
@@ItsGoodintheWoods thanks for the helpful insights! Now I see OneTigris has 2 hammock hot tents! The Tegimen and the ROCDomus! I am now really liking the later model due to all the configurations that can be had. I really like the awning mode for great weather or it can by pinned to the ground for hot tenting!
This is easily by far, hands down, the worst hot tent I have ever used. I think they really missed the mark on this one. I still have it. If you live in the USA I will send it to you. Contact me by email if you would like it.
Rain just above freezing can be a tricky situation. No McDonalds for breakfast this time. I knew there was some good food waiting at home.....point a to point b...no stops in between! LOL
Awesome video Justin love the set up if I were 30 years younger. Massive kudos on the super "hot" food porn segment lmao. Thank you for all that you do.
Set up camp and get drunk... or... get drunk and set up camp...😂😂😂😂😂😂. Youre little tent looked sweet but i think it’s dangerous. Would be awesome for someone really small though. D😎🇺🇸
Man that's even tiny for a midget 🤣 the artist formally known as haha how's that OV bag?? I've been debating on there quilts but don't want to regret it, I think Pomolys tents are just not happening right now 😜 the stoves though hell yeah!!😁✌💚
Hahahahaha! Yep. I love this bag. I have been using it quite a few years now. It is awesome. From what I have seen, I am noticing some trends with their lightweight tent offerings. A little more thought and attention to details could go a long way. I hope to see that in the future. Their stoves are obviously very high quality!
I realize you probably have nothing to do with this but I'm going to comment on it anyway. The Bass Outdoors commercial at the beginning totally sums it up. Probably irrelevant because it seems a different add triggers with each viewing. The gist of it was something along the lines of the outdoors is NOT A COMPETITION, JUST ENJOY IT!
I have no say over what commercials they are using. You are right though, it is not a competition. All about getting outside, doing something cool, enjoying it all and sharing the experience!
This tent is garbage. Too small, too heavy for its size, too complicated to set up, too many stake out points. There are so many better options out there
Ben, I know right ? That’s one awesome backpack that Justin has, I gotta find me one of those ! I wonder where he got it? He talks very highly of it,all the time ! lol, hope you’re well man !
I am getting this thing dialed in for my winter system! I was a bit surprised at how much stuff I can fit in there. I love this backpack. That whole load out was just a hair over 30 lbs! The bag handled it with ease

Is the stove hut really that small?! That is unfortunate. This tent is much too small. Real tight
Good video. That tent would be good for kids.
@@jeffjackson5331 Ahhhh I see. Yes, this would make a good kiddie tent hahahahahaha!
@@ItsGoodintheWoods yep!
Mark, the Minipeak XL is perfect for canoe camping, and lighter than the Chalet. Your going to really enjoy that. Cheers
Definitely!
This tent weighs almost 6 lbs. It weighs 1.5lbs more than the MPXL. There is nothing lightweight about this tent, except its design and function. Better off in every way with the MPXL
@@ItsGoodintheWoods True !
Man, that tent is tiny.
To me that's just a knee killer. Tooooo small!
Might be good for a child. LOL!
Good stuff Justin. Thank you!
Personally, I think I'm going to go for the Pomoly Manta.
Tons of space in that thing.
much much too small. Not a fan. The Manta looks quite large!
@@ItsGoodintheWoods You betcha !
Would you ever consider making a video about what you do when you get home to keep all your gear dry and clean and ready for your next trip
@@theweekendhomestead Good idea Will ! Although it’s not very exciting ! Hang it up in the basement or my garage, then put it away 😳👍
Happy new year dood!
The same to you and your family! Thank you
Happy New Year
A Happy New Year to you as well! Thank you
Loving it.. set camp and get drunk! I do that too sometimes, when the time, the place and the company is right! Btw i hear, that the tent leaks... :( Let us know
LOL! Good times! I hear the tent leaks as well. I'm not going to use this tent again, so I won't be able to confirm that
What an adventure!
In the bag it goes
I would send you the tent, but I worked out other plans for it yesterday. sorry
@@ItsGoodintheWoods Thanks dir the great infor. I was teasing about your tent! 😃
No need for coffee in the morning when you have whiskey! Who else pressed rewind at the big fish comment? lol
LOL! Exactly! That was a big fish!
Great video Justin, have you tried to make your own beef jerky ??
Thank you. I have made my own beef and venison jerky many times. Good stuff!
Great video - maybe give the tent away as a prize
Thank you! I had considered it.I think I havre found a new home for it
I found that condensation in my stove hut 70 I've bought the mini peak xl just need to seam seal it
As soon as I get some dry weather
You are going to love that MPXL. A fantastic tent
Epic camp but anything below 32°F is to cold for me. I have camped 5°F on Blood Mountain and didn't like it. Lol
It's different for you Southern folk! lol
@@ItsGoodintheWoods Yes I know, I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB Rapid City SD and it was sooo cold in the winter time. Summers were extremely hot too. Lol
@@SeniorHiker77 That sounds rough.
Subscriber giveaway for a Pomoly chalet 70? Shame for a nice tent to never be used. Someone might love it.
Look forward to the next video
Oh it'll get used.....just not by me LOL
Cắm trại trong khu rừng băng tuyết thật kỳ diệu ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes it is!
Hoping to find one of these used just to try it. Thinking for summer trips or early fall
This is easily by far, hands down, the worst hot tent I have ever used. I think they really missed the mark on this one. I still have it. If you live in the USA I will send it to you. Contact me by email if you would like it.
@@ItsGoodintheWoods I live in maine will email you.
@@ItsGoodintheWoods I am even smaller then you and when don’t need a stove or have a mini stove might work for me
I am getting so excited for some hot tent camping! Maybe we can get a trip in together. I live in CT but frequent VT and NH :)
Hot tenting is a ton of fun! I would be interested in a meetup. Always good to meet likeminded people
Nothing worse than rain when it's just above freezing. Mcdonalds for breakfast.
Rain just above freezing can be a tricky situation. No McDonalds for breakfast this time. I knew there was some good food waiting at home.....point a to point b...no stops in between! LOL
Where in the white mountains was this?
This was at the Franconia brook tent site
Luxe tents all the way !!!!
100% agreed. In my experience with both brands, it is my opinion that Luxe puts more quality into their tents
Awesome video Justin love the set up if I were 30 years younger. Massive kudos on the super "hot" food porn segment lmao. Thank you for all that you do.
Thanks Sarge. I don't like this tent. This was a one and done situation for me. I'll never use it again. LOL Gotta have good food man !
Set up camp and get drunk... or... get drunk and set up camp...😂😂😂😂😂😂. Youre little tent looked sweet but i think it’s dangerous. Would be awesome for someone really small though. D😎🇺🇸
I only get drunk before setting up on the real ambitious trips hahahahahahaha!
I forgot to say the river at the end was just stunning
She's a beauty
Man that's even tiny for a midget 🤣 the artist formally known as haha how's that OV bag?? I've been debating on there quilts but don't want to regret it, I think Pomolys tents are just not happening right now 😜 the stoves though hell yeah!!😁✌💚
Hahahahaha! Yep. I love this bag. I have been using it quite a few years now. It is awesome. From what I have seen, I am noticing some trends with their lightweight tent offerings. A little more thought and attention to details could go a long way. I hope to see that in the future. Their stoves are obviously very high quality!
@@ItsGoodintheWoods good to hear!!(=
@@Canadian_Craftsman I can't speak for their quilts. Quilts are overrated LOL
I’m 4’10 so this tent will be perfect for me.
This tent is garbage. Too small, too heavy for its size, too complicated to set up, too many stake out points. There are so many better options out there
What would be your comfort view of a 6’4”’ 240 lbs person in this Chalet 70?
Extremely comical
You would be absolutely miserable.
