I was a Marine stationed on Okinawa in 1967, and I was to muster out of the service shortly after I returned to the States. Once I became a civilian again I had become such a fan of Joan that I was determined to travel to see one of her concerts. But, I met the girl who is now my wife of 49 years and suddenly Joan Baez moved down the list of my priorities. Now folk, that's what love can do to a man. ❤
It is and released by small labels or the artist themselves. It's just not aired on main stream radio but the march of time the generations change and their ears don't want to hear this in large doses.
Yup , this is the real deal . No electronic studio enhancement, no auto tune, smoke, dancers, and other BS. Just one acoustic guitar and not even a drum player.
Beautiful performance, though she misses the lyrics again. She used to sing, "'til so much calvary came". This time, "Stonewall's Calvary came". Stonewall Jackson was a Confederate General who died much earlier. The song was about the fall of Richmond and Gen Lee's surrender to end the war. Should be "Stoneman's Calvary came", the last raid by Union calvary, which was very effective by cutting the rail line and blocking Lee's only possible retreat.
I can believe she is crying about the destruction of slave holding society in the US this song needs to be blocked and he channel needs to be shut down!!

I love this song!
One of my all time favourite songs
Meins auch, viele Grüße aus Deutschland
Classic!
She and Joanie Mitchell should sing together one day at Alabama Dixie Bar.
From 1971 to 1978 .. in just 7 years, we found ourselves in a new music era.
How do you figure? 🥴 If you talking about materialism creeping in, that would be in the '80s. There was still hippie vibes in the late '70s.
The most Beautiful Lady and voice on EARTH.🎉🥳
I remember listening to this when I was a kid .from London England 🏴🇬🇧
this kind of music is not written today

A beautiful voice enough said we grew up with the song old school
One of the most beautiful songs of all times.
Luv this ❤🎉
The most unforgetful Rebel song of all time has been sung by many voices but never like Joan Baez.
Brilliant performance, showing Joan's relaxed, sassy, but fun attitude with the crowd. Shame they didn't join in with the chorus.

I'm in love❤❤❤❤ one of the best female rockers of all time and one of my best favorites
This is a very great song. You can feel it move right to your heart❤😂❤😂❤
Levon Helm of THE BAND wrote this great song which Joan Baez made a tremendous hit. One doesn't have to be Southern to appreciate the sentiment.
What a great voice she has.
True talent.
wow
It is impossible to say what Miss Baez means to the world...
The voice of god !!!!
One of the great talents of my generation.
Robbie Robertson from The Band wrote this song.
The time will come and old Dixie will rise again!
💯 I’ll be ready
William Tecumseh Sherman had it right. “War is hell”. Understood that the most economical and fairest war is total war.
👍👏
She is so outstanding in skill and style constrasting completely the audience.
Looks like everybody there is as high as a kite...

It makes me think she really didn't know the history relative to the song.
I always wonder who sang this song. Heard the song a few times growing up but never heard of her.
The Band Levon Helm
Nice find…where’s it from?
Levon never played it again after Joan turned it into a pop song.
You need to stop telling lies.Because some stupid people might believe you!
She turned a boring dirge into a great song.
She definitely polished it into a pretty little pop song. I'll give you that!

I can't help it. LOL, I am one of those pop song types! No disrespect. Have a great day! @@rthib1960
What was the message of this song ?
After the end of the civil war i
Too bad she got the lyrics wrong. It’s “Stoneman’s cavalry”
And it’s not I’m a working man!..It’s I’ll work the land!
And I believe it’s the marsh below my feet!..Not the blood!
@@michaelkeenan3437 I swear by the mud below my feet

However she sung it, it tore the charts up.
“With my wife in Tennessee. And one day she said to me…’Virgil, quick come-see’….Baez’s fouled your lyrics. See?”
I can believe she is crying about the destruction of slave holding society in the US

Grande joan BAEZ.
I don't like her, but this is a great song.
Then don't listen.
@@zeppelin1qazshe's a sexy little something
I like her very much... especially when she mocks the pain of the Confederates. Thank you for sharing, and good luck with your karma.
Yeah. Pretty crazy to be a civil rights activist, or to be in favor of nonviolent protest, or in favor of equal rights for women. Really radical. 😂
