    Fun thing with Spell Queller, as well, is that if you use it to counter an overloaded spell or any spell with an alternate casting mode, they can't cast it as if it was overloaded. So if you counter Cyclonic Rift (when overloaded it's still a 2 CMC card), if they ever get rid of Queller they only get to bounce one thing.

    Also, topic starts at 3:28

    • @MarvelOfRain
      @MarvelOfRain 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I tried it, but problem with Boompile and Nev Disk is how slow they are. With disk you will 100% need to wait a turn and with Boompile it is a 50/50. All your opponent needs to do is play a reclamation sage and you are done. I ussually play Oblivion Stone over it. If anything Perilious Vault is a card more people should consider. It isn't as fast but it can deal with anything! Soul of New Phyrexia, Avacyn, Darksteel Forge or a simple Heroic Intervention. All of those are cards people often play to dodge board wipes and Vault gives you a colloress way to bypass them all. Only card that it is weak against is Teferi's Protection. It is also great against all graveyard based generals such as Athreos, Muldrotha, Daretti, Meren. Just play Perilous Vault and your mono green has both a great board clear and graveyard hate!

      @@MarvelOfRain those are some good points. I still like Boompile for the option of a 4 generic mana Hour of Revelation it offers at such a low mana investment. Sure, half the time it won't work the first time, and 1/4 of the times you play it, it won't work in either of the first two activations, but the fact that it gives an out to every deck when facing all sorts of problematic situation (and is an artifact, something much more easily tutorable than other types of cards) really makes it shine imo :D

    Verity Circle - I absolutely love this brand new card from RNA in practice, and in commander, where everyone is tapping a lot more creatures to use activated abilities, it could draw you so many cards. For those who don't know, Verity Circle is an enchantment for 2 and 1 blue that allows you to draw a card whenever a creature an opponent controls becomes tapped and it isn't attacking. For 4 and 1 blue you can also use its ability to tap a creature without flying. Would recommend in any blue deck if you want early card draw on a permanent.

    • @berryjuice3457

      Yeah so much fun stopping your friends having fun and playing their deck, you know... the reason everyone is playing. People who get pleasure out of stopping their friends playing a game are just naturally pretty toxic, i don't care what anyone says, anyone who defends this sort of behaviour are the people who like to do it themselves and don't like people criticising their toxic playstyle. You're not sitting down with your friends and thinking "hey, wouldn't it be nice for me and my buddies to have some fun playing Magic?", you're just a sad person who's sole intention is to tell your friends they're not allowed to play the game they've all sat down to. And of course you're proud of it. This community is just full of toxic pricks who don't understand how to make friends.

    I'm always very surprised to not see one of my favorite cards never show up on lists like these, especially when you had a dedicated removal section. Curse of the Swine! It's a sorcery for 2B and X, and it exiles X target creatures, their controllers put a 2/2 boar token for each creature exiled this way. It's essentially reality shift, with none of the downside risk (Which was already honestly minimal, at it's worst it drew them a card, they still had to pay full cost for the manifested creature if they wanted to play it), but with the massive upside of exiled a ton of stuff at once! Frankly, this is commonly a one sided, exiling board wipe. Sure, it's at sorcery speed, and that's significant, but goddamn, is it worth it!

    • @scottdusenbery2278
      @scottdusenbery2278 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, Curse of Swine is ridiculous and I love it. I run it in my Naban Deck and it's just so good. It can be used as a 3 cost exile any creature, or as a pretty effective board wipe except it exiles in blue. It's not as great against token/sacrifice decks but it's amazing against tribal. I completely shut down an Arabo deck using it. And it's so cheap, it's like 50 cents to a dollar. I think too many people look at the 2/2 body it gives them and shies away from it but it's like "I will gladly give you a 2/2 pig in exchange for Ulamog and the certainty that he is not coming back."

      I mean how useful is lightning bolt in decks that aren't based on spell slinging? I get it's one mana for 3 damage to any target, but it feels useless compared to the spot another card could take in your deck. Plus. a lot of the time it'll be a dead card in your hand late game. Like what're you going to do? Use it to finish off a creature that's been dealt damage that turn? It just seems like an impractical, low-impact cantrip. At the same time though, i'm speaking through experience in my playgroup so yours may be different. Have a nice day and thanks for reading

    Evolution Charm is a fantastically versatile card. 1G - Choose one - Search your library for a basic land card and put it into your hand; return target Creature card from your graveyard to your hand; target Creature gains flying until end of turn. It's ramp when you need it, almost a regrowth when you need it, and a Jump when you need it. In my playgroup there's not very many flying creatures usually so Evolution Charm can threaten player's life totals pretty handily, if there are no kill spells lying in wait.

It's a 1 mana artifact that let's you look at the top of your library whenever you want and gains a bonus if an opponent happens to be playing a morph or manafest deck. Plus, because it's an artifact, it can go into any combo deck and most people don't nuke it because a lot of the time they underestimate the power of information.

    I put forward my "nobody plays it but everyone should" card - Abundance. As long as you have it, you _will not_ get mana flooded or screwed. You can choose to get a land or nonland for each card you would've drawn. Additionally, it is card draw _replacement_ which means you can avoid triggering Consecrated Sphinx or even avoid losing the game to drawing from an empty library. It's also quite cheap, at 50 cents for the two pre-con printings and $2 for the Urza's or Tenth. (Though be warned if you're gunning for bling, as the only foil printing is in Tenth and is $33)
    Another big point I love about stealing cards from your opponents (Dire Fleet Daredevil, Etali, Stolen Strategy, Gonti, Praetor's Grasp, Thada Adel, etc) is not only do you gain value in the form of new cards, but also that your opponents are losing potentially valuable parts of their decks or combos.
    And for the "play more lands more easily in colors other than Green" I'd say Gem of Becoming is really good, even if you're only in two of the three colors it tutors. It'll pull up even nonbasics to your hand, so you can ensure you won't miss land drops while pulling lands out of your deck for later.

    I've got this Toshiro Umezawa deck and it's one of the most fun things I've ever played. It wins by recurring a Gray Merchant over and over. Which isn't the most creative way to do it, but the way it continually sacs and recurs the gray merchant is 100% through casting instants. Like Costly Plunder and Altar's Reap to sac it, and then getting it back with things like Makeshift Mannequin. There's also so many fun black instants that people just don't see coming, but countering a spell with Imp's Misschief is amazing, especially when you can do it twice.

    Also, my vote for an unknown card you should try (super cheap and new common) is Vicious Rumors. It's perfect for my new Haunt of Hightower deck.

    So why not do the show with DJ also? I feel the chemistry between the 3 of you, would be great.

    For decks that use their graveyard a lot, Bottomless Pit (each player discards randomly each upkeep) and Null Brooch (2,t,discard your hand to counter noncreature spell) are good defense vs control/combo opponents.

    The reason why red is better than white is because it actually has good commanders

      OOOoooOOOOooooOOOOOHHHHHHH BURN!
      but actually white is better because noone expects a -spanish- white Inquisition.
      our chief weapon is suprise... and fear
      our two weapons are fear and suprise... and ruthless efficiency
      our three weapons are fear and suprise and ruthless efficiency... and an olmost fanatical devotion to -the pope- something pope related in mtg
      our four are fear and suprise and ruthless efficiency and an olmost fanatical devotion to -the pope- something pope related in mtg... and these nice red-white cards

    Also one thing that makes Phyrexian Revoker so powerful is that it can target mana abilities as well. So you can target mana rocks or commanders that add mana for something.

    Spell Queller is garbage in commander. Cancel is more flexible, actually deals with things and has the same cmc, and we all know how terrible cancel is.

    • @snakeman830
      @snakeman830 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not entirely true. A lot of it depends on exactly what you are getting rid of. For example, nailing an opposing counterspell is effectively getting a free 2/3 flyer on your Cancel. Exiling a Toxic Deluge is even worse for the caster than an outright counter, as additional costs have to be paid each time. For that matter, exiling a board wipe will effectively be total counter much of the time; what's the point of board wiping right after one has already resolved?

    • @fadianwickstrom5970
      @fadianwickstrom5970 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      snakeman830 True that there are situations where a queller is basically free value but you still can't counter some of the most impactful stuff in the format. No extra turn spells or board wipes bigger than 4 is still a pretty big drawback. Additionally this turns all your opponents kill spells into counter magic. Imagine playing this to get kid of that crucial wrath of god and then watching them swords you queller right as you'r about to attack

      I play it in Ephara. As long as Ephara is in play it cancels the spell and I draw a card the next upkeep. Plus it can usually get one or two swings in before it gets removed.

      Exactly what I thought. Unless you have some major synergies with spirits, ETB-triggers or creatures in general (which most decks don't), most normal counterspells are a lot better. Cancel might not be better, but Counterspell, Mana Leak, Condescend, every Cancel with Upside, Cryptic Command and many more definitely are.

      Question- does Spell Queller get around “can’t be countered?” I mean- it says exile, not counter

    Victory chimes is an underrated pet card of mine. I have it in my Ayli deck, where often times i need to keep open exactly one mana for each of my opponent's turn. Instead of losing three colored mana for my turn, i can just have victory chimes which untaps itself

    57:00 I did this with my Minotaur deck recently. I just put like random stuff in what I think would be cool and there are some cards in there where I say "they are really good. I let them in." and the other stuff I experiment with. Some slots are just flexible cards and I think in the beginning where I didn't know where I was going it was like 13 flex slots and now they are like around 7.

    Legitimately just ordered a list of cards from this video I haven't been using.
    Also, fun interaction I've found in my Tawnos, Urza's Apprentice deck with Phyrexian Revoker: Revoker's etb trigger can be copied with Tawnos, letting you name 2 cards to lock down. It's an unexpected way to lock down 2 commanders until they can remove the Revoker!

    Sometimes I have tried a card in a deck and it didnt work. But I dont just rule it out as a bad card. I try it in another deck. Perplexing chimera is one of those cards. Found a great home in estrid. I love blinking it back into play under my control.

    The best part about reality Shift is that if you didn't hit another creature on the manifest and you they have no way to blink it. You just relived 2 cards for 2 mana and 1 card. If they can't blink it they're gonna have to jump through skem hoops to get it back assuming they even have recursion in their deck. I love reality Shift esp in my morph deck, it's in theme lol

    so you guys know the best aspect of your episodes is anytime you further the sense of discovery by covering less common and less popular cards, tactics, play styles, etc. This I think is more in the spirit of the format than the uber efficient popular combo decks ruling the roost today.

    A few thoughts:
    Hostage Taker: It's great in sac decks, too. Steal someone's flyer or unblockable or other annoying creature, then sac it for your benefit.
    Phyrexian Revoker: cast it and name Chromatic Lantern or Sol Ring or Phyrexian Altar... See how fast your opponents kill your Revoker....
    Toshiro Umezawa: It's into the graveyard from anywhere, so great if someone is playing a self-mill deck

    Fumigate is awesome! I won two games because of it this weekend. Once against a krenko deck with 300 goblins, and once when I was at 4 life, bringing me to a respectable 24 life in time to finish off the competition. Also hallowed burial because everyone in my group runs grave decks, including me. XD

    mimic vat! Ive found that this card has so much potential. So many people try to replay cars that die and go to your graveyard. You can instead exile it and then play it for yourself as many times as you want at least until the artifact is gone and you only have to pay 3

    First time seeing this video, I've played all these recommendations. I agree with you, they are definitely underrated and very niche choices. Some require building around but on resolution are absolutely brutal. No one sees them coming.
