- The White Sands National Park is a natural wonder, a desert in New Mexico, USA. It is a field of white dunes (275 sq mi/700 sq km) formed of white gypsum crystals. The desert is the world's largest gypsum dunefield.
The view in the area is so amazing, you cannot get rid of the feeling you are surrounded by snow.

Thank you for the beautiful video. Like it was yesterday, though actually 47 years ago, as a child of 7 years our Dad and Mom took us here and we had so much fun running down the dunes and wiping out in the sand. I will never forget.

Had an absolute favorite experience way out back atop a dune, kinda makes it my favorite place. Dropped off by friend at Alkali trailhead and walked north into the void. Doggo and I found a spot, sat and watched sunset as Full Moon rose, dinner by moonshine...watched Moonset next morning...nice. Fourteen days later, same but New Moon during Perseids meteor shower. Starshine is brighter than you'd think, incomparable.
I hear ya, stopped here on the way to Texas, its definitely in my top 5!
Unusual place, I have seen plenty of desert footage but not white sand like this. We have coastal yellow sand dunes and red interior dune fields but none like this. Excellent workmanship as usual.

We loved our morning at White Sands - I had no idea I could be standing in a white, sandy desert in the morning then travel up to Cloudcroft to eat lunch on a snow covered mountain - we just uploaded the video from our visit there and feature a great local bbq place - I think it’s the best I’ve ever had!

I remember the first time I had seen or even heard of WSNM. I was a freshman in college at New Mexico State in Las Cruces. It was 1968 and the local drive-in theater was showing the film "Hang Em High" starring Clint Eastwood which had finished filming in the area about a year earlier. Eastwood had already done his spaghetti westerns (in Italy/Spain) and because of those westerns his U.S. popularity was just beginning to rise in the U.S. even though his face was already familiar to U.S. audiences for playing Rowdy Yates on TV's Rawhide show. This was his first U.S. made film after those Sergio Leone films. I believe one of the Las Cruces churches' choir was used to sing one of the hymns in the film. Having a Hollywood film being made in Las Cruces was a big deal with the proud locals. A fellow freshman friend (who had a car---rare then) took some of us to see where some of the filming took place, and WSNM was one of them. It was the first time I had ever seen white sand outside a beach, and it was quite amazing. I had never seen dunes at the time either, so the whole experience was rather outworldly.
That same day coming back from WSNM to Las Cruces we went past the place near the road where Pat Garrett, the man who killed Billy the Kid, was himself killed in the street. That's another story however.

I met a nice couple that brought their camel "Mitch" to WSNM a few years ago. The approaching thunderstorm coming afforded me to take some incredible pictures. Now it's July 2020.😷
