Fishing the Mayan Riviera Puerto Aventuras Mexico

Went to Mayan Riviera Mexico on a family vacation to Dreams Puerto Aventuras and took down a travel rod to shorefish for bit in the area. I was fishing in Puerto Aventuras along the Yucatan Peninsula.

I remember when I was 21, I brought my pack rod to Belize. While walking the dirt roads I was adopted by a bare foot local named Giovanni. He showed me some great spots, taught me about the caye, and hooked me up with some decent ganja. At the end of my trip I left him with all my gear as he was a hand liner. It’s amazing how the love of fishing can bring people from two different walks of life together and create lifelong friendships.

I'm impressed by the guy hand-lining. I'm tempted to rig up a Coke bottle to throw in my luggage for our upcoming vacation. Not sure my wife would let me get away with taking a rod and reel to our all-inclusive resort. But maybe I could sneak off for an hour or two and give this a try. Looks like a fun challenge.

I usually fish in Cancun and there is not a lot of structure. Where were you that you found this structure? Did you stay there or just go to the marina for the day? The gentlemen with you seemed very friendly and helpful. I so appreciate how friendly and helpful all the locals have been to me over the past ten years. Glad you had such an amazing day of fishing. Did you have any trouble bringing hooks on the plane? did you just put the fish hooks in your checked luggage? or did u buy them when you got there? any fishing stores in puerto adventuras?
