Thanks! This is the most thorough review I have seen on this backpack. I just bought it, but I haven't used it yet. I got it for a trip to Europe in May. I have thought about adding a thin after-market waist strap (Amazon) to it just in case we get caught having to walk longer with it for more than an hour.
@@cavsarge11 thanks for the kind words! Adding a waist strap may not be a bad idea if you’re walking a lot. I did a few miles fully loaded while I walked my dogs and it was surprisingly more comfortable than the straps and back panel appear to be.
If you want to access the main compartment, you can partially open the tech section and then use the red tabs to open the main compartment enough to grab whatever you need. If you strategically pack your items so the ones you need to use are at the top, you can use this bag much like a traditional backpack with this method.
@@verbingnoun a definite workaround, especially if trying to access the main compartment in a tight space like a bus or train. Appreciate the feedback 🙏🏽
@@PapaFlorez I used to own the regular version and sold it before I started making TH-cam videos. I know how popular it is and I do love ultra. If I can find deal on one, I’ll pick it for the channel.
The top pocket zipper should be able to access from on top when it’s placed under the seat,so things don’t fall out while the pack is under the seat.So you would be able to get your I pods or phone.
@@bluwolf2 it’s a pretty big bag, while you could probably under pack it and use it under the seat, this one was designed more as a carry on to be placed in the over head bin.
Another reviewer used styrofoam peanuts to measure the capacity of this bag, and with it being full but not over-stuffed, it came out closer to 35L. I got this bag for < $70. It's so inexpensive but I am not entirely sold on the design and the narrow and non-spacious org pockets. For $30-40 more, I can get a similar size bag for the same purpose with better features and warranty. Should I quibble? I need to figure out for myself. Thank you for your review!
@@VickiKech yeah not so great on organization, more like a duffel with shoulder straps. Still a great bag in this price range but depending on your packing style and needs, it will definitely affect your experience. Curious to know what other bag you were considering! Onebagtravels volume testing is so useful!
@@UnPackD I'm considering Osprey's Daylite 26+6 or Daylite 35. Not sure if I should get a carry-on or try to go ultra minimal with an 'under the seat' personal item bag. Maybe I've been watching too many TH-cam that warn you about upcoming airline restrictions.
@ oh that’s a great choice as well. Not to fuel your concern about restrictions lol but take a look at Cabin Zero products as well. They have a great line of “under the seat” style of bags too.
The Amazon description says the main compartment is 32 liters, with the other compartments making up the other 8 liters. That's why it seems smaller to you. To me, that's a bit misleading. But - for my purposes - 32 liters is fine for what I would use this bag for.
@@mikeleone1347 Onebagtravels did a volume test and the entire bag was just shy of 35 liters in reality. Plenty of room for me and most travel situations but not quite the advertised 40L. Great bag overall, especially in this price range
@PotatoSpudRucking Yeah real interesting choice to not make the sternum strap removable. I’ve used a lot of bags and that’s the first time I maxed one out on the length. Appreciate you checking the video out 🤙🏽
I spent the extra money and bought Ciro El Sandoval 40 l bag. Yes it cost me $300, however, it is a great bag for motorcycle tours, airports and it includes amazing backpack straps that do not wear you out. And it has plenty of extra places to strap other gear onto it if needed. Plus it also folds down to whatever size you honestly need. And it is waterproof. I packed mine for a 2-week motorcycle trip into Tennessee earlier this year. Ran through a lot of rain with it and all of my gear inside stayed completely dry. Plus what I like about it is it opens from both the top and bottom. So if you have something at the bottom of the bag, you don't have to rummage through the top all the way down to the bottom to get it
@@ScottSpencer716 dude that sounds amazing! I need to check that bag out. Yes I’m definitely a proponent of buy once cry once and investing in quality gear. This tomtoc is a great option for those that are looking for a wallet friendly option but still want something that’s not going to fall apart after a couple of trips.
@@UnPackD I definitely like the bag that you are reviewing. But for my needs, the El Sandoval really hit all of the spots that I needed. If you check out the different reviews on it, especially the first one from Adam Sandoval, who helped design the bag, you will see it's definitely worth the money. It was one of those buys that I know will last me many, many years down the road. But I also know that not everyone can afford that price for a bag. And that's why I like your video where it's a more budget friendly but very similar bag.
@@ScottSpencer716 thanks for the suggestion, I’m definitely gonna check it out! Sounds like a great bag and I’m not familiar with it. Love learning about new gear 🤙🏽. $300 bucks actually sounds like a good deal , I paid $450 for my GR1 that does none of those things 😅
Thank you very much for confirming that it doesn't fit within the boundary of the smaller airlines. Much appreciated!!
@@j_gate no problem! The small version might be a better solution if you’re looking for a true “under the seat” bag.
