    Bought my first Yamaha keyboard when MOX was released its still going strong and I have zero regrets for buying it....Yamaha make awesome keyboards.

      Link it to the YC88 wooden keybed. The GHS is excellent and all you ever need, but for the Rolls Royce experience the YC is simply perfect.

    I have the MODX7 and MODX8 here at the moment. Have been waiting for this for quite some time. It's a great keyboard, very easy to use, sounds excellent and at this price point I don't really think Yamaha have any competition. It's available to buy from today and most retailers including GAK will already have stock.

      Would you elaborate on the keybed quality of MODX7? How is it comparable to MODX6 and MOXF6? Also how's the touchscreen feel quality-wise? TIA!

    • @yamahamusicians
      @yamahamusicians 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I have not tried the MODX6 but I did ask Yamaha about the keys and they said it was a pure synth action. The MODX7 on the other hand is semi-weighted and is in fact the same keybed used in the MOXF6. I thought it felt familiar :) It's great quality though and I enjoy playing it. The touch screen is the same 7" full colour one used on Montage. Quality is great and it is very responsive...you can calibrate it for sensitivity in the settings. I should have the MODX7 and MODX8 for another couple of weeks so do let me know if you have any more questions...better still, join the conversation over on our forum at yamahamusicians.com :)

      From what people that have tried the new MODX says about the display I highly doubt its the same as in the Montage. its kinda the only thing that people says could be better. (it should feel a bit shluggish and not as fast as the better touch displays). This is only based on hersay and my own guess tho. These instruments is only slightly more than 1/3'rd of a Montage price tag. So it would be places like the chassis -plastic instead of metal, lcd instead of led display, cheaper keybeds without aftertouch and propably the A-D-A electronics inside will be of lower quality, if they are to push the price tag down at this range, since the basic sound generation is based on Montage tech. Comparisons between the older MOX vs MOTIF series also showed that the same base presets sounded a bit more muffled in the MOX compared to the MOTIFs. So its very likely that the MODX have more mainstream AD and DA converters compared to the top range Montage and Genos. But have to agree .. even the missing aftertouch is a big minus, these instruments sound darn good. I could live with that its a bit more plastic'ish and the keys prolla arent top notch compared to a Montage 7/8 or Motif 7/8. But that you can't afford to put a keybed in them with aftertouch is about the only thing (could even live with the annoyance of yet another adapter on the floor!!) that keeps me from ordering a MODX7 right away

    • @yamahamusicians
      @yamahamusicians 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is the same display that is in Montage. I have used Montage extensively and would definitely notice if this was not the same display. They are both TFT (Thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display) and of the same quality. LED is a completely different tech, often found on older keyboards. The display is in no way sluggish. It responds as soon as you select something. I have the keyboards here right now so I can assure you there is no delay when selecting anything on the display. It is also bright and very clear.
      The chassis is of course plastic and that keeps both the weight and the price down. It is good quality though, very solid. The keybed is also good quality, same as the one on the MOXF which I also owned and liked. As for the A/D converters you could be right but I would need to confirm with Yamaha. That was indeed a difference between the MOXF and XF although it is not something I ever noticed until putting them side by side. Same with Korg's Kronos and Khrome.
      People keep bringing up the subject of Aftertouch but really it is not an issue. There are more than enough control options here. Pitch bend, Modulation, Super Knob, two foot controller inputs and two footswitch inputs. No one is fitting aftertouch on keyboards in the mid-range price point. KORG don't and Roland don't. The main reason apart from pushing the price up is to differentiate the mid-range from the flagship product. Nothing wrong with that. It makes perfect business sense and for the majority of people who will buy these keyboards, aftertouch is not even on their radar.
      So yes there are compromises and there will always be things people want on a keyboard and of course for as little money as possible but, we have to be realistic. The MODX is not a Montage but it is still a great keyboard for the money and far better than anything else on the market at the same price.

    • @ejmusicofficial
      @ejmusicofficial 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is a good stage piano! The only problem is the GHS action. Sure, it’s expressive but the quality is not the best. After two months the keys will start to click an get clunky. This is a great keyboard! The only problem is the GHS action. Yamaha shouldn’t have been so cheap and what they should have done is put their GH3. This just an opinion. What I suggest is after COVID is over, go to your local music store and try it out!

    Just purchased a Montage 8......... Should I return and get this guy? I can't imagine using the stuff that the Montage has/can do that the MODX can't. Thoughts????

    • @yamahamusicians
      @yamahamusicians 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thing is if you already have the Montage you may not use all it's functionality now but it is the sort of keyboard you can grow into. It had endless possibilities. For me personally MODX does everything I would need a keyboard to do. Perhaps look at your use, what you need your keyboard to do and if that functionality is not available on the MODX then stick with your Montage. Oh one thing I should mention as you have bought the Montage 8 so I assume keybed quality is a priority? The MODX8 keybed is good but it is not AS GOOD as the one in your Montage.

    • @Khordmaster
      @Khordmaster 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yamahamusicians Thanks so much for your response. That last bit about the keybed is hugely important as I am using this keyboard for piano training as well.

    • @yamahamusicians
      @yamahamusicians 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I don't think you would find the MODX8 keyboard bad in anyway but you would definitely notice the step up in feel going to Montage. It is the same with the MODX7 and Montage7. The Montage7 has a better quality keybed than the MODX7...which I think uses the same keybed as the MOXF so it's not bad at all just not quite as nice to play. Thing everyone needs to bear in mind is Montage is the premium product and MODX distills the essence of Montage into a more affordable package. There will be compromises but Yamaha have done a great job of getting the balance right.

    • @Khordmaster
      @Khordmaster 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yamahamusicians I see... Interesting stuff. Do you think modx8 keybed is the same or very close to the moxf8 keybed? I ask because I feel a significant difference between the montage 8 and the moxf8. Thanks in advance!

    • @yamahamusicians
      @yamahamusicians 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It feels to me very much like the same keybed that Yamaha used in the MOXF8 so if you have played that particular keyboard you will know how the MODX will feel. I play mostly acoustic piano and I find it works well for me...but of course IF I could afford a Montage 8, well that's another story ;)

I even wrote a review for sweetwater I am so stoked on the MX88, but the MODX is a whole other level and I also would not need another 88key. A MODX MODULE would be sick for $1000. also to be aftertouch controllable so you can run it from your old DX7 with the aftertouch keybed if you want. That's what I want muahahahaa,

      Thankfully we have this thing called choice in life eh? Having said that, the Montage has 8 dedicated "scene" buttons that you can use to change sounds quickly. The MODX has 4 with a toggle to switch between 1-4 and 5-8, so two clicks. On top of that, sets allow you to switch sounds directly from the touch screen. Plenty of options, each unto their own. No right or wrong here, just whether the workflow "works" for you or not.

      None of these range of instruments have .. Even the Kronos that cost 3 times as mouch and have a dedicated organ engine sounds anywhere near a Hammond B3. That said from what I have heard .. (try watching the live stream on Woody piano Shack) the MODX have some pretty decent organ patches compared to what you are used to in this kind of instrument.
      But if you want to have really good B3 emulation, your only shot is one of the "real" Clonewheels with waterfall keybeds, or a HX-3 module

    • @javiceres

      mrdali67 What about Nords?

    • @mrdali67
      @mrdali67 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would considder the Nord Electro partly clonewheel since it has a std Fatar waterfall keybed. Most Nords actually have the organ engine but only the newer Electro models have real drawbars. A real organ player mostly wont touch an instrument without it, and it doesn't seem that Nord want to update their CD2 organs touch sliders.
      But honestly I am not the guy to ask about Nord, since I ususally run screeming away if i just eye a red keyboard on the stage :p
      I am a huge Yamaha Fanboy, but Nords should be burried somewhere far far away out in the Sweedish forrests .. lol
      Actually I was trying out the Nord Electro 4 and the Hammond XK1c at my local store and I wasn't impressed with either one of them. The XK1c is "fair" .. slightly favorite in sound and playability of the keys .. but the Nords std Fatar tp8o simply failed horrible. Never played such bad keys before. After reading about Crumars "modded" Fatar tp80 keybed I went and ordered a Mojo61 without having played it (none of the few stores that sells them close to me have them home unless you get lucky that someone ordered one and hadn't picked it up yet)
      and luckilly I wasn't disapointed. The Mojo61 is by far the best single board clonewheel to play. The Keys are firm to play, no sluggishness and no excess key noise like the std Fatar keybed, but it only have a select number of sound engines (VB3/Church/Vox/Farfisa/Tine piano/reed Piano/Clavi) wich is all modelled and sounds awsome but it isn't a synth/rompler like the Nord line, so if the synth and rompler part is crucial then Crumar isn't the choice.

      I am very much considdering the MODX7 or 8 .. its lightweight and offer a lot for the price tag. I am still missing Aftertouch but that is propably something you will have to accept if you don't have the finance to buy a Premium modell like the Montage. Have been looking at the Kronos LS, but at twice the price tag, still no Aftertouch I might as well buy a Kronos 73 or 88 wich cost about the same and have "real" Weighted keys with altertouch but weighs over the double than the MODX line

      The price tag on that new Kronos LS really baffles me. A price wich is higher than both a Kronos 73 and 88 both of wich has real graded Hammer action keys "with" aftertouch. That makes me think that there is absolutely NO difference in the cost for the company wether they use a keybed with or without aftertouch. Its an artificial way to get people to buy the Premium model, especially in Yamaha's lineup. They could easily have thrown a keybed with aftertouch in the MODX and they would still be able to sell at about the same price tag, but then there would be 1 less reason to buy a Montage instead .. wich shows that their Premium models is ... just overpriced.
