Can you comment on real estate and personal property (cars, boats, etc.) taxes in SC or counties for 100% disabled veterans ? Are there any VA hospitals in central SC ? Thanks!
There are definitely increased benefits for military personnel! I’m not sure about VA hospitals in Central SC, but I know we have one in the Charleston area.
Thank you, Deneene, for sending this link to me when responding to my youtube comment. You gave lots of specific information about each community as well as visually showing the types of homes and amenities in each. My home is currently listed for sale and I will be reaching out once it looks like I might have a potential buyer. However, I have a couple of questions I would like to ask now, if you don't mind. I am a passionate golden retriever lover and plan on getting a new puppy when I relocate. Do any of the 55+ communities allow for backyard fencing options as I will not put a shock collar on my dog. I am looking for a dog friendly community so any recommendations you have regarding which cities score higher would be greatly appreciated. I am also not limiting myself to 55+ communities although I do appreciate what they have to offer. My second question is regarding property taxes. I have an acquaintance in Bluffton who told me there is a significant homestead exemption on primary residences and once you have lived in your home one year you can apply/quality for reduced property taxes at a 4% rate. Is this accurate information? Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
You’re welcome! Yes, I can answer both of those! 55+ communities do allow for fur babies as well as backyard fencing to keep them safe. You just would need approval through the HOA, which isn’t a difficult process. Also, your friend is right 😊 With a primary residence in SC, you would be eligible for the 4% property tax rate as well at a $50,000 homestead exemption for this ages 65 and over. We are a very retirement friendly state!
Generally, they only require one resident to be 55+, but it would depend on the community. I’m happy to help you find a community that would work for you! Please feel free to reach out!

@@SouthernLivingYankee Thank you so much for both of these answers.
@ you’re very welcome!
I’m over 55 but I have a son who’s five. Do any of these communities allow for you to have children in your home?
