  • This was the week of the great poultry shuffle! We got another 40 broiler chicks, Delaware Broilers, which we are going to trial to see if we like their meat quality and potentially breed them. With their arrival, we needed to get the cornish cross chicks out on pasture. Come look at our new chicken tractor!

This channel is gold! I love that you make longer videos with substance to them. So many are opting to only do TH-cam Shorts now and I just don’t get anything out of that. You make informative content that’s fun to watch ☺️

Thank you, that means a lot! I try to make videos I would want to watch. Personally I usually avoid channels that are just shorts. It's a lot more effort but I think it's worth it 😊

Was thinking same thing as other poster. Move the hinges to the side of the lid that has the sheet metal roof panels, and lift from the hardware cloth side, and it should be much easier. 😀👍

That would make it much easier to lift! I like having the feeder right inside the opening of the lid so it's easy to refill without entering the tractor, and it needs to be on the covered side since an open trough. I'm stuck right now on which option is better, so I'm going to keep playing with it to see which I might hate more, haha. For now, at least it's a free workout!

Put the hinges for the top on the opposite side so you are lifting the lighter side. You can still hang the feeder from the 2x2, just do it near the vertical supports (center and corner).
I will be building a similar box for mine, to replace the simpler one I built, you have given me some good ideas. Thanks!

Thanks! Great idea for making the lid easier to lift! I'm going to play with it for a few days to see if lifting a heavier lid or having to enter the tractor to fill their feed trough at the opposite end would be more of a pain. For now, I enjoy lifting the lid (farm chores are the best for getting a workout while never setting foot in a gym 😆) and then refilling their food directly in front of me. BUT, if both those options turn out to be a pain, then I could get a covered feeder. I will keep all options on the table to see what works best. I'll definitely play with the option of hanging the feeder too! Thanks!

I think so! I ended up putting the turkeys out with them too and they have truly loved running around and jumping in there!
