  • After COVID-related delays, “Top Gun: Maverick” has finally hit movie theater screens, and the buzz around the new film is nothing short of amazing. Fans love the return to the classic days of 80s action flicks, and Tom Cruise has been praised for his return performance as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. But there is one very special cameo in the film that has fans buzzing.
Val Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer a few years ago, and his fight with the disease cost him his voice. But it was incredibly important for Tom Cruise to have his friend reprise his iconic role as Iceman. Using impressive technology, the movie’s technical team managed to give Kilmer his voice back. Here’s how Val Kilmer really feels about his “Top Gun: Maverick” role.

If you have not seen it or you are on the fence, get off the fence because this is not a flick you want to miss and seeing it on the big screen is a MUST. The sound from the fighter jets mixed with the big screen is an experience. As to the story, I liked it as much if not better than the first one, which is saying a lot. They got a lot of great young actors in the mix and I really liked the young man who played the son of Goose. There was also the cocky handsome Ice Man-like guy in the mix who was also a great add to the movie. I am so glad he was in Top Gun. The role and scenes were just magically and fitting.

Was never a huge Kilmer fan (Tombstone is the exception).
But his documentary Val hit like no other Hollywood doc ever has. It was amazing and made me respect him a ton. I’m incredibly glad he’s in the movie and they fit him in perfectly.

He was great in Heat as well, if you missed that one you should check it out, one of the best movies of the 90s and widely regarded as the best heist movie of all time, although he played a supporting role to Al Pacino and Robert Deniro, he was still great in his part. And I agree about the Val documentary.

Maybe it was the hype but I watched it for the first time about 4 years ago. I thought it was a very average film. I was expecting something groundbreaking but it felt very "90s crime movie" with every trope in the book.
I'll have to give it another look.
I saw Maverick in the theater and was all smiles the entire time he was on screen.

I knew going into the movie, that Val's scene would have me in tears. I wasn't wrong. It was wonderful to see him.

Val did not have to speak in that special scene. The power in his eyes, the expression in his face...wow, so beautiful, amazing acting. The silence in the theater was electric.

Great respect for what Tom did with the new Top Gun and including Val! I grew up with both being some of my favourite actors. Its just awesome to see humans being so amicable towards one another.

My favourite part of the movie was their scene together. What a treat.

I'm glad they are using Val Kilmer. Tom Cruise seems like a good friend and a stand up guy. I've always enjoyed his movies immensely.

When I saw the photo of Val Kilmer in the Top Gun trailer, it made me get all teary. He's such a great actor. Tom Cruise made a great decision, as Kilmer adds more than a role for his movie, but a psychological shot in the arm that many of us need right now... these guys represent a lot of us who want our America back!

I got a little choked up when Val Kilmer was speaking to Tom Cruz in the movie. It was an emotional scene.
