I bought the Golf R - better discounts than the Merc and corners so much harder than the SUVs!
Mark Lawton merc is better tbh sounds better as a stock and has the better interior coming from a bmw fan the golf r sound like a vacuum and interior quality lacks

From what I remember they have some extra reinforcements to the chassis, that is definitely adding some weight. There was a review that shows them somewhere. The 8 speed gearbox can also be a little heavier than that 7 speed in the A35. And something extra from the engine, of course.
mainly because a45s needs heavier duty components to compensate for more power. Such as bigger brakes and shocks, chassis stiffening, bigger differential, driveshaft, upgraded engine internal and slightly bigger turbo etc, all contributes to the extra weight.
An Audi S3 would be a much better choice, the Q2 just looks strange

The Audi was literally heavier and had less horsepower than the A35, but it still won.

the Audi was the best car there, not only because it won but also because the Mercedes, with less weight and more power couldn't keep up
You do realise that the Audi, Seat, and Golf, have the exact same drivetrain, engine and gearbox right?
The only factor that should make any difference between those three cars is weight.Audi is heaviest. Doesn't make any sense at all.
That not very hard to lift the right foot a little bit for commercial purposes
Didrik Halsoy you should realise that there r more components in a car than the drivetrain, engine and gearbox, audi is luxury.
@@malkris5237 Luxury does not make a car faster, if anything it makes it slower due to added weight. If the engine and transmission are the same between the Audi, Seat and VW, why is the Audi quickest with added mass, err, luxury? Unless output of the Audi is greater, which by the stats here it is not, or the gearing is different.

Lol, all four were hot hatches! Three of which were all VW. Two of them are raised up hatches called SUV’s based on the same car platform.

exactly, like every person needs the ability to MAYBE go in mud when they live in the city, it's not that these crossovers are faster, they just cost more and are put in a different class for fuel economy, so that's why, at least in the US, they're being pushed down our throats. If you want a real car with real usable storage, get a honda fit w/ a stick and thrash it, cause these CUVs have less storage space than a sedan

Almost identical (the three VW products have the same engine). Based on the specs the Merc should have won this. Better driver in the Audi? Or was this an Audi commercial?
danmar007 I wouldn’t be so sure about this Merc wonnig so much, check out carwow channel. There was a drag race which included merc A35 AMG and S3 and that S3 was pulling away even more hence the same engine as SQ2. Disclaimer: not an Audi fanboy
With automatics, 4WD and launch control it doesn't matter who's driving so stop blaming drivers pls.

Who knows if all cars even had the same fuel if your running on 95 Ron or 99 it could be the difference. Either way I would rather a golf R or the merc amg anyday

I Looked at a Mercedes A35 not that I can Afford one 😢, But I actually thought it was a Well Made Car I liked the seating position and the Fact I could see the Bonet, with my Focus it Dips away and the Dash is quite high too, I like the Seat Low which don’t help your view over the Dash.
In contrast I looked at a mk7 gtd and found it sort of the same story as my focus, Seat was Too low can’t see the bonnet.

I had a Ateca FR for a hire car. Really liked it. Wouldn’t be able to afford a Cupra sadly but hoping to get a FR in the future.

I would think that the Cupra is the cheapest car here so spend another 600 quid for the ABT package (check out Carwow) and you'll get 350 hp.......

Again, the Merc loses. It's a joke that they tried copying the Golf R/Audi S3 5/6 years later but made them the same power and more expensive. The Golf R, Cupra Ateca and SQ2 all had the same engine, the Audi map has always been faster in drag races so the S3 always beat the Golf R (and even beat the PFL A45). A35 with 30kg less weight and 6bhp more still lost. No wonder Merc are giving 10+% discounts already on the A35.
"The Audi map has always been faster". I love these uneducated comments. As someone who modifies OEM software for a living, I can tell you the S3 and Golf R software is identical in terms of load and torque limits.
The gearing is different and that makes the Audi launch control faster. Map was the wrong word sure but the comment is still right.

Someone I know traded in his Focus RS for a Cupra Ateca... That's slower than the GolfR whilst the Focus RS is way faster than the Golf R... Good choice ;-D

The problem is that these "small SUVs"...aren't. They're slightly oversized, slightly lifted hatchbacks with some plastic cladding marketed as SUVs so braindead normal people in search of a road appliance buy them.

Mercedes vs three VW spon-offs. The hot hatch is not dead, it's just not what you think it is. Up GTi, Twingo RS, Swift Sport, 500 Abarth, Cooper S, these are the true hot hatches - a little more power, a lot more fun, for not much more money. The Golf class is way too powerful and expensive to fit the definition "hot hatch".
A hot hatch is Polo GTI not Up GTI, Renault Clio not Twingo...
So what exactly do you class a Golf R as then ?
