    Why was Penderecki overlooked until recently? No one ever mentioned him in the 80s and 90s, when talking about great 20th century music, yet he was equally as great as any composer, greater than most--he was up there with the likes of Shostakovich

      Well I don't know where are you getting your information from, I grew up listening to his music in the late 80's and the mid 90's. The first thing to notice about Penderecki is that he was one of those composers whose career had different phases or stylistic periods like Beethoven. Also he is famous for a number of concertos that he composed. Perhaps in the 80's and 90's you were a fan or a follower or some other types of music.

      @@paulusrex321I don't GET information, I was simply explaining what I have experienced. Point is, Penderecki is GREAT!!!!!!!!!! Plus, I remember the 80s and 90s very well, and I'm telling you, Radio 3 and the like hardly ever mentioned Penderecki. I'm 56 btw, not some naive youngster who thinks he's impressing his elders because he knows a few composers (I get that a lot).

      @@markpaterson2053he was ignored in that era because his neoromantic style was seen as kitsch and somewhat anti-modern, which is true

      It's kinda depressing that great music can be ignored because the latest fashion has moved on; imo, you don't move on from the likes of Penderecki because they're always relevant, their craft produces timeless art.

    Utterly fascinated with that... tubular instrument being whacked during the fifth movement.

    • @FreakieFan
      @FreakieFan ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's an instrument Penderecki himself created (or dreamed up and had someone create for him) for this piece

      @@FreakieFan I did wonder if it was a Penderecki Original! Thank you!

    This is a great performance but for one thing. The video quality is awful. Especially in this day when we have 4k. Should at least be in 1080p. Sorry but, the quality ruined it for me.

    His music is not modern enough. Tonality? Garbage. I am a Boulez fan and I like music robots can listen to.
