The best part about this video is I recognize most of the places you’re fly fishing. I live about 20 minutes away and learned to fly fish in the park. I’m glad you enjoyed.
This was a great video to watch very beautifully done. I'm 60 and new to fly fishing so I used your video is a tutorial I'm looking forward to seeing more
Great video!! We were just at Waterton Lakes National Park just across the boarder from glacier. Once the boarder opens up there I'll have to go back for some fly fishing there!!
We know of someone else that caught a lake trout there too. I would have loved to have hooked into one! I wonder if we weren't low enough. Maybe more weight would have done the trick.
Finally nice to see a video not about the typical american way to fish. With the most funky bass lures catching the biggest bass that has been caught atleast 100 times. A chill flyfishing video. Faith in america restored :D
I really enjoyed your video. My wife and I went to Glacier 5 years ago after I retired. I could not find out any info on fishing in Glacier anywhere but I always pack a fly rod everywhere I go. We hiked just about every trail there. The scenery is second to none anywhere in the world. My fishing experience was similar to yours but I was lucky enough to catch many beautiful small cutthroats almost anywhere I tried. Definitely a hiking and scenery place to put on your bucket list. Take a fly rod to fish while your wife/partner/family takes a break. Don’t forget your bear spray!!!!
Spot on! Phenomenal scenery is what glacier is all about. Enjoying the views is the priority in the park and fishing is just something to add on to the experience!
Incredibly gorgeous scenery out there! Thank you for sharing it with us. While I sit here in my nice warm house with the below zero temps outside, it's videos like yours that get me excited about Springtime here in Upstate New York.
@@BackyardBassin I'll be tying a few Green Weenies up over the winter if the temps in my basement shop get above 50. LOL! I think they would do great up here, as we tend to get a lot of inchworms in the warmer months.
A green weenie is one of my favorite flies to fish in late summer. I even like fishing them in the spring to represent a caddis larvae. It's going to get a bit warmer here in PA in the coming week so maybe you'll get your opportunity
Nicely done! I remember going through the park as a kid, wanted to fish but the family didn’t stop...😕 Great panoramas, nice perspectives in many of your scenes. Motivates me to visit the Park again! Thanks!
Even though we didn't have a ton of time, it was still nice to be able to wet a line! Just so awesome to fish in scenery like that! Thank you for watching and thanks for the comment!
I've driven through Glacier twice, done the hike to the overlook at the visitors center at the top of the sun road once, never had time to fish. Truly jealous! Such an incredibly beautiful, wild and captivating place.
Good job men!!! Glacier is so beautiful. I did not catch anything in Avalanche Lake either but it was one of the coolest experiences of the 2016 trip. I believe the water temp in the upper end was 42 in July!! Your wildlife footage is awesome!! Keepem coming!!
Glacier was an unbelievable place! I think everyone in the family was in awe! I have to give credit to my sister for getting the footage of the bear and cubs. Her lens was a bit better for the job and she got some great video of them! Thanks for the support, as always, Craig!
Great video! We were there in the second week of August this year. Wild fires had closed the west entrance, so we were stuck with long drives to the two eastern entrances, but it is beautiful even amongst the smoke..Caught a bunch of cutties floating the Flathead River from Columbia Falls to Kalispell too, great fish!
We were there during the first week of August and the day after we left they closed areas of the park. We lucked out! I would love to float that section someday! I bet it was gorgeous! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
Great video! Very beautiful place! I live in Russia, and your videos help me learn English. Thanks! In my country fly fishing is rarely occurs so it very interesting for me. (Sorry if i wrote somthing wrong)
Noticed that you both were catching very little brook trout toward the end of your video. And yes, it’s always great it you can get outside with nature.
I was there for a couple days 2 years ago from Edmonton Alberta Canada, Loved fishing those little streams. Tiny tiny trout is all I found but loved every min of it.
Great video and scenery, reminds me of Jasper and Banff National Parks. We will be stopping in Glacier as I am going to Montana for vacation next July. I am watching your videos( subcribed) to finalize the fishing spots we will try while we will be there, staying near Anaconda. I am also from the East, a little north in Canada. Thanks for the vids.
Really glad you you're able to find the videos helpful! You'll really enjoy it! We really want to make it to Banff and Jasper some time. It looks beautiful there! Thanks for watching!
I have been to Glacier to some of the spots you went but have never been fishing there yet! I need to get out that way! Glacier is my favorite place on earth
I think I can speak for my whole family when I say that it was the most beautiful place we've ever been! Loved it there! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
Great video. I go to Victor, Idaho in September and we fish Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and Montana, time is limited so we pack it in. I think the beauty out weighs the fishing, sort of, not really.
make sure you guys hit the N. Fork of the Flathead on your next trip. Rent a raft and float that sucker, gorgeous, and tons of fish (not a lot of size but there are some good ones)
Backyard Angling i just started going through more of your uploads and saw you In fact are from Pa so I was spot on picking up that accent! I really enjoy your content and look forward to more
Amazing video!! That was a rainbow. Any trout with cutt at that size will always have a slash mark. I've caught smaller cutts than that and it had the slash.
Just stumbled across your channel and really enjoy the videos! I fly fish for bass and bream in Texas. Could you do a video explaining your thought process in fly selection when you arrive at new waters?
We will add that to our list! As a general suggestion, i try to tie patterns that are suggestive, meaning they represent alot of different bugs well. When i get to a new stream i flip rocks and decide what type of aquatic life there is, then start with a suggestive pattern. I will say, however, that presentation trumps pattern selection. Presenting your flies in the right water column, at the appropriate drift speed, etc. is most important! Hope this helps
To add to this, we were guests on the Bugs and Beards podcast where we had a discussion on self guiding and touched on this briefly. Might be of some interest to you
Bellissimo video e luoghi meravigliosi !!!! Fantastici!!! Purtroppo in Italia non abbiamo parchi e fiumi così belli. Chissà se un giorno avrò la fortuna di fare un viaggio nei vostri luoghi. Grazie e buona fortuna! Ciao
Thanks for the kind words! Sounds like the now river would be a beautiful place! Check out some of our other videos if you enjoyed this one. Thanks for watching!
Beautifully filmed, and very well done overall. What a wonderful experience. The fish at the 18min. mark were gorgeous! I am for eating the rainbow anywhere in cut territory. Only one thought if you don't mind: Too much false casting will really cut down on your takes.
Thank you! We were really lucky to have seen so much wildlife in the park. The flora was beautiful too since our trip coincided with peak wildflower season!
The most beautiful NP in the lower 48, but I am prejudiced. Lived just North of YNP. Itty bitty fish in that narrow stream. Water so clear because no nutrients to color water or to sustain big fish. You should look at backpacking into high mountain lakes in Beartooths, etc.
Good video. Can I give you one tip? When you put your rod in the sock put the larger end in first. Then when you put it in the tube you have less chance of breakage.
Someone in Missoula showed us a few pictures of some fish he caught on lake hook. Looks like an awesome place to fish! I would love to fish it some time! Unfortunately we were on a tight schedule while we were out there. Maybe next time though! Thanks for watching!
You guys did a wonderful job. I've flyfished all over the country. Never in GNP. I know there's bulls and Arctic Grayling up there. Grayling remain on my Bucket list. Curious to what admission to the park is and non-resident fishing fees are?
I'd love to catch a grayling as well. There is no fishing lice we required unless on Blackfeet land. I can't remember the park fee but I'm sure you could find it online. I don't want to lead you astray. Thanks for watching!
Hey guys, just wanted to tell you that this is one of my favorite fly fishing videos I’ve ever seen! I’m from Oklahoma but my heart is in N.W. Montana. Been there and loved it! I’m just now trying to learn fly fishing but would love to try it in Glacier National Park. Thank you and keep up the good work! Justin Simmons
Thank you for the kind words Justin! It's comments like yours that really motivate us to create fly fishing content! Best of luck to you in your fly fishing pursuits! Tight lines!
All the western mountain states are awesome and beautiful. I recently moved to DFW and it sucks! All these hot, humid, flat mud water states suck ass! Even the bass fishing sucks ass here and texas is supposed to be the paramount of bass fishing. I miss chasing trout in clean cold mountain streams. But now I'm stuck here with citified, muddy lakes getting sunburned just to end up catching nothing but gars and fucking turtles once I got more money I'm getting the fuck out of here
Nicely done, guys! I visited the park a couple of years ago, with my daughter, and I didn’t even think to wet a line. And, I recognize a couple of those waters you fished. We also stayed at Fish Creek Campground a couple of days. Thanks our video gets me exited to go back and see all those many parts of the park we didn’t get to visit, and for me to toss a but into the water. What time Of year did you go, and how long did you stay?
We were there during the last few days of July and the first few days of August - we luckily left right before they closed Going to the Sun Road due to the fire. We were there for a little under a week. There were a few trails that we didn't get to do so it would be nice to have stayed a little longer but I can't complain! Thanks for watching!
Love Glacier and great vid! Two ideas for better survival of catch and release trout: 1. Use an underwater camera to take your pics with the fish in the water and 2. Use a no-touch catch and release tool, so you never have to handle the fish. TU recommends both of these (never touching the fish and never taking them out of the water) for the best success at survival. I use the "Ketchum Release" tool myself, slides right down the line and unpins the fly effortlessly. There are others, too. Tight lines!!!
Great video. My wife and I will be there in August. I was trying to decide if I should take a rod. Looks like the answer is Yes. Is there decent fishing that you don't have to hike far to?
nice video-I live near the park and if you head into the backcountry there are lakes and streams with BIG fish....best to overnight it and possibly catch 4 to 5 lb. (and larger ) RB and WSCT....there are books also describing the better fishing if you have time to get out of the "touristy" zones...always beautiful in the park-one of the main reasons we all live up here-I know you had the family along but serious anglers out there should have a night or two to get to serious fishing, incredible scenery, and the record cutthroat (13 lbs.) was caught in the park
It would have been great to have had time to hit up some of those areas! We love backpacking and it would have been great to have made a trip back into the backcountry! We will add that to the bucket list for sure! Thanks for watching!
Red Eagle has the MT record for cutthroat-very old record. It hasn't been as good since fires but still big fish. I caught several over 5 lbs. years ago. Gunsight has big fish, fished Medicine Grizzly last year and caught nice fish. Even Hidden Lake up at Logan Pass can be amazing. One could spend the whole summer in the park backcountry going to small lakes and catching big fish. East of the divide at lower elevations better for flyfishing as they are more open country .I have never taken a pole up to Avalanche-I'm glad you did! Also if you are coming from the East their are very productive lakes on the Blackfoot Res-I just started last summer but will be getting my Res license every year now.@@PROCOTRDOCTOR123
Thank you! Really appreciate that. That fish was a young rainbow trout with par marks. Could have been a cutbow too as they look similar when they are small like that. Thanks for watching!

The water clarity is astounding and totally beautiful. And thanks for the gentle handling and quick, safe releases.

That waterfall at 13:00 is awesome. I caught a really nice lake trout in that same pool in 2017.

The color of those rivers is amazing!

Oh I wanna go fly fishing here one day! Beautiful!
Very nice video, good graphics, very well organised, I guess this place is now on my bucket list.

Great video. My wife and I will be there in August. I was trying to decide if I should take a rod. Looks like the answer is Yes. Is there decent fishing that you don't have to hike far to?
Why doesn’t this guy have more subs
More subscribers would be nice haha! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Probably hasn't had the cops called on him or bought an amazon return box yet...
That’s fair

When your good its hurts!!
i just loveee the smell of trout on my hands
nice video-I live near the park and if you head into the backcountry there are lakes and streams with BIG fish....best to overnight it and possibly catch 4 to 5 lb.
What lakes in particular?
Passionate Forager thanks for this info.
What were the names of the trail hikes you showed at the end of the video? Great views!
Those trails were Highline and Grinnel glacier. Gorgeous hikes! Thanks for watching!
Super nice video
Beautiful place and great video!! What type of trout is that at 17:05 ?? Thank you!
Thank you! Really appreciate that. That fish was a young rainbow trout with par marks. Could have been a cutbow too as they look similar when they are small like that. Thanks for watching!
Excellent vídeo.
