I don't believe there ever will be a better NASCAR game than this for a long time if not ever. They just really nailed all the details of the driving and the experience. Every NASCAR game that comes out year after year since just feels processed and rushed. iRacing is the only place you can do some proper NASCAR racing these days on the sim side.

Shameful really, we could still have multiple quality NASCAR titles to this day if it wasn't for this blatant display of greed.

speaking of spotter packs I use to have one that had Dale Earnhardt Sr's spotter and one of the calls coming to the finish for the win was his spotter calling him for his final win at Talladega it went like this "Coming to the checkered," "Congratulations, champ!" "You the man!" I wish I still had it
Great vid! I like how you're playing it mostly stock. One modification you really should do however, is the graphics tweak. There are many sites that have details but basically you change some values in the core.ini and other files in the directory so the game takes proper advantage of your modern PC. Fixes the blurry textures.
This was the sim of racing sims. The sounds, the feel, the racing... all was amazing. It still is 15 years later. Even today, not much can compare. If you have a wheel, it's 10 times better.

You should go in the file rend_dxg and change TextureSetSize= . Whatever the number you have try plus 100,000 (add 100,000) to it and try the game. It should get rid of the blurriness. If still blurry, add another 100,000. But don't go past a certain point because otherwise you may get artifacts. To be sure save a copy of your rend-dxg before you tweak it. You can always re-build it when you run the config 3D.
i have this game well its my dads and ive been playing this since atleast 2010 (i was 5 in 2010) and its the only nascar game i really like and all the new ones don't feel the same

Anyone remember the setups back than? Weight all the way back, 6 -2 caster settings. We were pretty much turning right on the straights an holding the wheel straight in the turns, any more than that you were spinning. Good times.
10's of thousands of laps with this classic back in the day. Indy is a great track in this game, similar to Pocono setup wise. Driving hard at the beginning of a run at this place will cost you later in the run. Not as bad as Atlanta, but you have to pedal easy early. Makes me wanna install this now, but I don't think my separate wheel, pedals and shifter would even work.
Quick tip - go into your Papyrus folder and open the 'rend_dxg.ini' file with notepad. Set 'AnisotropicLevel' to 9 and set 'TextureSetSize' to -1. It'll look a LOT nicer :)
Give you a good Tip for your Textures, if you want to run the game at MAX Texture: Go the NR2003 main folder, open the rend_dxg.ini with the Editor (Wordpad), set the TextureSetSize=-1 , enjoy!
Still just a great game, works even with Windows 7, and it´s on CD - it´s your property, no steam required 😛 . It´s pretty realistic - you can adjust tension and tire pressure and many more, the sound of the engine just incredible ( best if you take one of the outside-view, pull up the bass and volume and play with the throttle ), and your hands get wet on the steering wheel.
I've been playing this again as well but I have a question. How do you adjust your pit stop when you're racing with a controller? My laptop has the pause button as a combo key so it's impossible for me to pause the game to adjust my pit stop while driving.

thermite_917 you don't need a good computer to run this at all if you set settings to low. igneous don't have a good PC then you will prob get around 30fps
I’m not sure if you mentioned it or not but you really should do a season with signups for the cars, like 2 cars per user or something. You can even change the names. It would be awesome especially with you commentating on the racing.
I gotta do a let's play on this game someday. My computer is pretty damn good, and my PS4 controller connects just fine. I think maybe for a season as Ryan Newman or Kevin Harvick.

I got NR2003 because of the crash physics and stayed with it because the racing was so enjoyable. And the replay booth.

Agent W uhh the Function keys show you the options, I think it is F4 through F7, you can map it to the buttons on your wheel but you need a mod
